آل عمران آيه 200

Al-‘Imran, verse 200

و أمّا قوله: وَ إِنَّ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتٰابِ لَمَنْ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللّٰهِ وَ مٰا أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْكُمْ وَ مٰا أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْهِمْ خٰاشِعِينَ لِلّٰهِ فهم قوم من اليهود و النصارى دخلوا في الإسلام،منهم النجاشيّ و أصحابه.

As for His saying: And most surely of the followers of the Book there are some who believe in Allah and in what has been revealed to you and in what has been revealed to them, being humble before Allah—they are a people from the Jews and Christians who entered into Islam, among them the Negus and his companions.

قوله تعالى:

يٰا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اصْبِرُوا وَ صٰابِرُوا وَ رٰابِطُوا وَ اتَّقُوا اللّٰهَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ[200]

His saying, exalted is He:

O you who believe! be patient and excel in patience and remain steadfast, and be careful of (your duty to) Allah, that you may be successful. (Quran 3:200, M. H. Shakir)

99-/2046 _1- مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ:عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ،عَنْ أَبِيهِ،عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عِيسَى،عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ الْمُخْتَارِ،عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي يَعْفُورٍ،عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ) ،فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ: اِصْبِرُوا وَ صٰابِرُوا وَ رٰابِطُوا قَالَ:«اصْبِرُوا عَلَى الْفَرَائِضِ».

99-/2046) Muhammad b. Ya‘qub—from ‘Ali b. Ibrahim, from his father, from Hammad b. ‘Isa, from al-Husayn b. al-Mukhtar, from ‘Abd Allah b. Abi Ya‘fur, from Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him), regarding the saying of Allah, Mighty and Majestic: Be patient, and excel in patience, and remain steadfast, he said: Be patient in [fulfilling] the obligatory duties.

99-/2047 _2- عَنْهُ:عَنْ عِدَّةٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا،عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ،عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي نَجْرَانَ،عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عِيسَى،عَنْ أَبِي السَّفَاتِجِ،عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ) ،فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ: اِصْبِرُوا وَ صٰابِرُوا وَ رٰابِطُوا قَالَ:

«اصْبِرُوا عَلَى الْفَرَائِضِ،وَ صَابِرُوا عَلَى الْمَصَائِبِ،وَ رَابِطُوا عَلَى الْأَئِمَّةِ».

99-/2047) From him: from a number of our companions, from Sahl b. Ziyad, from ‘Abd al-Rahman b. Abi Najran, from Hammad b. ‘Isa, from Abu al-Safataj, from Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him), regarding the saying of Allah, Mighty and Majestic: Be patient, and excel in patience, and remain steadfast, he said: Be patient in [fulfilling] the obligations; excel in patience amid calamities; and remain steadfast with the Imams.

99-/2048 _3- ابْنُ بَابَوَيْهِ،قَالَ:حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ،قَالَ:حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الصَّفَّارُ،قَالَ:حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ أَبِي الْخَطَّابِ،عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَسْبَاطٍ،عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ [1]،عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ، قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ)عَنْ قَوْلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ: يٰا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اصْبِرُوا وَ صٰابِرُوا وَ رٰابِطُوا .

فَقَالَ:«اصْبِرُوا عَلَى الْمَصَائِبِ،وَ صَابِرُوهُمْ عَلَى التَّقِيَّةِ،وَ رَابِطُوا عَلَى مَا تَقْتَدُونَ بِهِ، وَ اتَّقُوا اللّٰهَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ ».

99-/2048) Ibn Babawayh said: Muhammad b. al-Hasan b. Ahmad b. al-Walid narrated to us, who said: Muhammad b. al-Hasan al-Saffar narrated to us, who said: Muhammad b. al-Husayn b. Abi al-Khattab narrated to us, from ‘Ali b. Asbat, from Ibn Abi Hamzah [1], from Abu Basir, who said: I asked Abu al-Hasan (peace be upon him) about the saying of Allah, Mighty and Majestic: O you who believe! be patient and excel in patience and remain steadfast. He said: Be patient amid calamities; match them in patience through taqiyyah; and remain steadfast upon that by which you take guidance. And be careful of (your duty to) Allah that you may be successful. (Quran 3:200, M. H. Shakir)

99-/2049 _4- مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ النُعْمَانِيُّ،قَالَ:أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ الْبَنْدَنِيجِيُّ،عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُوسَى الْعَبَّاسِيِّ،عَنْ هَارُونَ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ،عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ،عَنْ بُرَيْدِ بْنِ مُعَاوِيَةَ الْعِجْلِيِّ،عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ الْبَاقِرِ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ) ،فِي قَوْلِهِ: يٰا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اصْبِرُوا وَ صٰابِرُوا وَ رٰابِطُوا .

قَالَ:«اصْبِرُوا عَلَى أَدَاءِ الْفَرَائِضِ،وَ صَابِرُوا عَدُوَّكُمْ،وَ رَابِطُوا إِمَامَكُمُ الْمُنْتَظَرَ».

99-/2049) Muhammad b. Ibrahim al-Nu‘mani said: ‘Ali b. Ahmad b. al-Bandaniji informed us, from ‘Ubayd Allah b. Musa al-‘Abbasi, from Harun b. Muslim, from al-Qasim b. ‘Urwah, from Burayd b. Mu‘awiyah al-‘Ijli, from Abu Ja‘far Muhammad b. ‘Ali al-Baqir (peace be upon him), regarding His saying: O you who believe! be patient and excel in patience and remain steadfast. He said: Be patient in performing the obligatory duties; excel in patience against your enemy; and remain steadfast with your awaited Imam.

وَ رَوَى هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ الشَّيْخُ الْمُفِيدُ فِي(الْغَيْبَةِ)بِإِسْنَادِهِ عَنْ بُرَيْدِ بْنِ مُعَاوِيَةَ الْعِجْلِيِّ،عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ)،الْحَدِيثَ بِعَيْنِهِ [1].

And this hadith was narrated by Shaykh al-Mufid in al-Ghaybah with his chain from Burayd b. Mu‘awiyah al-‘Ijli, from Abu Ja‘far (peace be upon him), exactly the same hadith [1].

99-/2050 _5- عَنْهُ،قَالَ:أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ،قَالَ:أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُوسَى،عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ هَاشِمٍ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ،عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عِيسَى،عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عُمَرَ الْيَمَانِيِّ،عَنْ أَبِي الطُّفَيْلِ،عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ مُحَمَّدِ ابْنِ عَلِيٍّ،عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ(عَلَيْهِمُ السَّلاَمُ): «أَنَّ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ بَعَثَ إِلَيْهِ مَنْ يَسْأَلُهُ عَنْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةِ: يٰا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اصْبِرُوا وَ صٰابِرُوا وَ رٰابِطُوا فَغَضِبَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ(عَلَيْهِمَا السَّلاَمُ)وَ قَالَ لِلسَّائِلِ:وَدِدْتُ أَنَّ الَّذِي أَمَرَكَ بِهَذَا وَاجَهَنِي بِهِ-ثُمَّ قَالَ-:نَزَلَتْ فِي أَبِي وَ فِينَا،وَ لَمْ يَكُنِ الرِّبَاطُ الَّذِي أُمِرْنَا بِهِ بَعْدُ،وَ سَيَكُونُ ذَلِكَ ذُرِّيَّةً مِنْ نَسْلِنَا الْمُرَابِطُ».

ثُمَّ قَالَ:«أَمَا إِنَّ فِي صُلْبِهِ-يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ-وَدِيعَةً ذُرِئَتْ لِنَارِ جَهَنَّمَ،سَيُخْرِجُونَ أَقْوَاماً مِنْ دِينِ اللَّهِ أَفْوَاجاً، وَ سَتُصْبَغُ الْأَرْضُ بِدِمَاءِ فِرَاخٍ مِنْ فِرَاخِ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ(عَلَيْهِمُ السَّلاَمُ)،تَنْهَضُ تِلْكَ الْفِرَاخُ فِي غَيْرِ وَقْتٍ،وَ تَطْلُبُ غَيْرَ مُدْرَكٍ، وَ يُرَابِطُ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا،وَ يَصْبِرُونَ وَ يُصَابِرُونَ حَتَّى يَحْكُمَ اللَّهُ وَ هُوَ خَيْرُ الْحَاكِمِينَ».

و سيأتي نحو هذا الحديث في قوله تعالى: وَ مَنْ كٰانَ فِي هٰذِهِ أَعْمىٰ فَهُوَ فِي الْآخِرَةِ أَعْمىٰ وَ أَضَلُّ سَبِيلاً [2]بوجه آخر.

99-/2050) From him, who said: ‘Ali b. Ahmad informed us, who said: ‘Ubayd Allah b. Musa informed us, from ‘Ali b. Ibrahim b. Hashim, from ‘Ali b. Isma‘il, from Hammad b. ‘Isa, from Ibrahim b. ‘Umar al-Yamani, from Abu al-Tufayl, from Abu Ja‘far Muhammad b. ‘Ali, from his father ‘Ali b. al-Husayn (peace be upon them): that Ibn ‘Abbas sent to him someone to ask him about this verse: O you who believe! be patient and excel in patience and remain steadfast. So ‘Ali b. al-Husayn (peace be upon them) became upset and said to the questioner: I wish the one who ordered you to do this had confronted me with it. Then he said: It was revealed about my father and about us, and the steadfastness we were commanded to [observe] had not yet occurred; and that will be—there will be from our progeny the one who is stationed [in steadfastness]. Then he said: Verily, in his loins—meaning Ibn ‘Abbas—there is a deposit created for the Fire of Hell. They will drive groups of people out of the religion of Allah in droves; and the earth will be dyed with the blood of chicks from the chicks of the Family of Muhammad (peace be upon them). Those chicks will rise up at an improper time and seek what is unattainable; but those who believe will keep station, and they will be patient and persevere until Allah judges, and He is the best of judges. And a narration similar to this will come under His saying: And whoever is blind in this, he shall (also) be blind in the hereafter and more erring from the way. (Quran 17:72, M. H. Shakir) [2]

99-/2051 _6- عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ،قَالَ:حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي،عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ،عَنِ ابْنِ مُسْكَانَ،عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ)، قَالَ: «اصْبِرُوا عَلَى الْمَصَائِبِ،وَ صَابِرُوا عَلَى الْفَرَائِضِ،وَ رَابِطُوا عَلَى الْأَئِمَّةِ».

99-/2051) ‘Ali b. Ibrahim said: My father narrated to me, from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr, from Ibn Maskan, from Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him), who said: Be patient amid calamities; excel in patience in [fulfilling] the obligations; and remain steadfast with the Imams.

99-/2052 _7- عَنْهُ،قَالَ:حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي،عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ،عَنِ الرِّضَا(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ)،قَالَ: «إِذَا كَانَ يَوْمُ الْقِيَامَةِ يُنَادِي مُنَادٍ أَيْنَ الصَّابِرُونَ؟فَيَقُومُ فِئَامٌ [3] مِنَ النَّاسِ،ثُمَّ يُنَادِي:أَيْنَ الْمُتَصَبِّرُونَ؟فَيَقُومُ فِئَامٌ مِنَ النَّاسِ».

قُلْتُ:جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ،وَ مَا الصَّابِرُونَ؟قَالَ:«عَلَى أَدَاءِ الْفَرَائِضِ،وَ الْمُتَصَبِّرُونَ عَلَى اجْتِنَابِ الْمَحَارِمِ».

99-/2052) From him, who said: My father narrated to me, from al-Husayn b. Khalid, from al-Rida (peace be upon him), who said: When it is the Day of Resurrection, a caller will call out, “Where are the patient ones?” and groups [3] of people will rise. Then he will call out, “Where are those who made themselves patient?” and groups of people will rise. I said: May I be ransomed for you, who are the patient ones? He said: Those who are patient in performing the obligations; and those who made themselves patient are those who avoid the forbidden things.

99-/2053 _8- سَعْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ:عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ؛وَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ هَاشِمٍ،عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ،عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ السَّرَّاجِ،قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ):تَخْلُوا الْأَرْضُ مِنْ عَالِمٍ مِنْكُمْ حَيٍّ ظَاهِرٍ يَفْزَعُ إِلَيْهِ النَّاسُ فِي حَلاَلِهِمْ وَ حَرَامِهِمْ؟ فَقَالَ:«لاَ يَا أَبَا يُوسُفَ،وَ إِنَّ ذَلِكَ لَشَيْءٌ فِي كِتَابِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ قَوْلُهُ: يٰا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اصْبِرُوا وَ صٰابِرُوا وَ رٰابِطُوا

99-/2053) Sa‘d b. ‘Abdillah—from Ya‘qub b. Yazid; and Ibrahim b. Hashim, from al-Hasan b. Mahbub, from Ya‘qub al-Sarraj, who said: I said to Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him): Will the earth ever be empty of a living, manifest scholar from among you to whom people resort in their lawful and unlawful matters? He said: No, O Abu Yusuf. Indeed that is something in the Book of Allah, Mighty and Majestic—His saying: O you who believe! be patient and excel in patience and remain steadfast. (Quran 3:200, M. H. Shakir)

اصْبِرُوا عَلَى دِينِكُمْ،وَ صَابِرُوا عَلَى [1] عَدُوِّكُمْ،وَ رَابِطُوا إِمَامَكُمْ فِيمَا أَمَرَكُمْ،وَ فَرَضَ عَلَيْكُمْ».

Be patient upon your religion; excel in patience against your enemy; and remain steadfast with your Imam regarding what he commands you and has made obligatory upon you.

99-/2054 _9- الشَّيْخُ فِي(مَجَالِسِهِ)بِإِسْنَادِهِ،حَذَفْنَاهُ اخْتِصَاراً،فِي حَدِيثِ أَبِي ذَرٍّ،قَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ(صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ): «يَا أَبَا ذَرٍّ،أَ تَعْلَمُ فِي أَيِّ شَيْءٍ أُنْزِلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ اِصْبِرُوا وَ صٰابِرُوا وَ رٰابِطُوا وَ اتَّقُوا اللّٰهَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ »؟قُلْتُ:لاَ،فِدَاكَ أَبِي وَ أُمِّي.قَالَ:«فِي انْتِظَارِ الصَّلاَةِ خَلْفَ الصَّلاَةِ».

99-/2054) The Shaykh in his Amali, with his chain—which we have omitted for brevity—in the hadith of Abu Dharr: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family) said to him: O Abu Dharr, do you know in what context this verse was revealed: Be patient and excel in patience and remain steadfast, and be careful of (your duty to) Allah that you may be successful? I said: No, may my father and mother be your ransom. He said: In waiting for one prayer after another.

99-/2055 _10- الْعَيَّاشِيُّ:عَنْ مَسْعَدَةَ بْنِ صَدَقَةَ،عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ) ،فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ تَبَارَكَ وَ تَعَالَى:

« اِصْبِرُوا يَقُولُ:عَنِ الْمَعَاصِي وَ صٰابِرُوا عَلَى الْفَرَائِضِ وَ اتَّقُوا اللّٰهَ يَقُولُ:مُرُوا بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَ انْهَوْا عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ-ثُمَّ قَالَ-وَ أَيُّ مُنْكَرٍ أَنْكَرُ مِنْ ظُلْمِ الْأُمَّةِ لَنَا وَ قَتْلِهِمْ إِيَّانَا! وَ رٰابِطُوا يَقُولُ:فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ،وَ نَحْنُ السَّبِيلُ فِيمَا بَيْنَ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى وَ خَلْقِهِ،وَ نَحْنُ الرِّبَاطُ الْأَدْنَى،فَمَنْ جَاهَدَ عَنَّا،فَقَدْ جَاهَدَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ(صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ)وَ مَا جَاءَ بِهِ مِنْ عِنْدِ اللَّهِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ يَقُولُ:لَعَلَّ الْجَنَّةَ تُوجَبُ لَكُمْ إِنْ فَعَلْتُمْ ذَلِكَ،وَ نَظِيرُهَا مِنْ قَوْلِ اللَّهِ: وَ مَنْ أَحْسَنُ قَوْلاً مِمَّنْ دَعٰا إِلَى اللّٰهِ وَ عَمِلَ صٰالِحاً وَ قٰالَ إِنَّنِي مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ [2]وَ لَوْ كَانَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ فِي الْمُؤَذِّنِينَ كَمَا فَسَّرَهَا الْمُفَسِّرُونَ لَفَازَ الْقَدَرِيَّةُ وَ أَهْلُ الْبِدَعِ مَعَهُمْ».

99-/2055) Al-‘Ayyashi: from Mas‘adah b. Sadaqah, from Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him), regarding the saying of Allah, Blessed and Exalted: “Be patient”—meaning, from sins; “and excel in patience”—over the obligations; and “be careful of (your duty to) Allah”—meaning, enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong. Then he said: And what evil is more evil than the Ummah’s wrongdoing against us and their killing us! And “remain steadfast”—meaning, in the path of Allah, and we are the path between Allah, exalted, and His creation; and we are the nearest station. So whoever strives on our behalf has striven on behalf of the Prophet (may Allah bless him and his family) and what he brought from Allah. “That you may be successful”—meaning, perhaps Paradise will be made obligatory for you if you do that. And its counterpart is His saying: And who speaks better than he who calls to Allah and does good and says: I am surely of those who submit? (Quran 41:33, M. H. Shakir) And if this verse were about the mu’adhdhins as the exegetes interpreted it, the Qadariyyah and the people of innovation would have triumphed along with them.

99-/1056 _11- عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي يَعْفُورٍ،عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ) ،فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ: يٰا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اصْبِرُوا وَ صٰابِرُوا وَ رٰابِطُوا .قَالَ:«اصْبِرُوا عَلَى الْفَرَائِضِ،وَ صَابِرُوا عَلَى الْمَصَائِبِ،وَ رَابِطُوا عَلَى الْأَئِمَّةِ».

99-/1056) From Ibn Abi Ya‘fur, from Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him), regarding the saying of Allah: O you who believe! be patient and excel in patience and remain steadfast. He said: Be patient in [fulfilling] the obligations; excel in patience amid calamities; and remain steadfast with the Imams. (Quran 3:200, M. H. Shakir)

99-/2057 _12- عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ السَّرَّاجِ،قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ):تَبْقَى الْأَرْضُ يَوْماً بِغَيْرِ عَالِمٍ مِنْكُمْ يَفْزَعُ النَّاسُ إِلَيْهِ؟ قَالَ:فَقَالَ لِي:«إِذَنْ لاَ يُعْبَدُ اللَّهُ،يَا أَبَا يُوسُفَ،لاَ تَخْلُوا الْأَرْضُ مِنْ عَالِمٍ مِنَّا ظَاهِرٍ يَفْزَعُ النَّاسُ إِلَيْهِ فِي حَلاَلِهِمْ وَ حَرَامِهِمْ،وَ إِنَّ ذَلِكَ لَمُبَيَّنٌ فِي كِتَابِ اللَّهِ قَالَ اللَّهُ: يٰا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اصْبِرُوا وَ صٰابِرُوا وَ رٰابِطُوا اصْبِرُوا عَلَى دِينِكُمْ،وَ صَابِرُوا عَلَى عَدُوِّكُمْ مِمَّنْ يُخَالِفُكُمْ،وَ رَابِطُوا إِمَامَكُمْ،وَ اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ فِيمَا أَمَرَكُمْ بِهِ،وَ افْتَرَضَ عَلَيْكُمُ».

99-/2057) From Ya‘qub al-Sarraj, who said: I said to Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him): Will the earth remain for a day without a scholar from among you to whom people resort? He said to me: Then Allah would not be worshiped, O Abu Yusuf. The earth is never devoid of a manifest scholar from us to whom people resort in their lawful and unlawful matters, and that is indeed explained in the Book of Allah. Allah said: O you who believe! be patient and excel in patience and remain steadfast. Be patient upon your religion; excel in patience against your enemy from among those who oppose you; and remain steadfast with your Imam; and be careful of Allah regarding what He has commanded you and made obligatory upon you. (Quran 3:200, M. H. Shakir)

99-/2058 _13- وَ فِي رِوَايَةٍ أُخْرَى عَنْهُ « اِصْبِرُوا عَلَى الْأَذَى فِينَا»قُلْتُ: وَ صٰابِرُوا ؟قَالَ:«عَلَى عَدُوِّكُمْ مَعَ وَلِيِّكُمْ»قُلْتُ: وَ رٰابِطُوا ؟قَالَ:«الْمُقَامَ مَعَ إِمَامِكُمْ»، وَ اتَّقُوا اللّٰهَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ قُلْتُ:تَنْزِيلٌ؟ قَالَ:«نَعَمْ».

99-/2058) And in another narration from him: Be patient with the harm [done] to us. I said: And “excel in patience”? He said: Against your enemy, alongside your guardian. I said: And “remain steadfast”? He said: Staying with your Imam. And be careful of (your duty to) Allah that you may be successful. I said: Is this [the] revelation [meaning, the verse’s intent]? He said: Yes. (Quran 3:200, M. H. Shakir)

99-/2059 _14- عَنْ أَبِي الطُّفَيْلِ،عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ) ،فِي هَذِهِ الْآيَةِ،قَالَ:«نَزَلَتْ فِينَا،وَ لَمْ يَكُنِ الرِّبَاطُ الَّذِي أُمِرْنَا بِهِ بَعْدُ،وَ سَيَكُونُ ذَلِكَ يَكُونُ مِنْ نَسْلِنَا الْمُرَابِطُ،وَ مِنْ نَسْلِ ابْنِ نَاثِلٍ [1] الْمُرَابِطُ».

99-/2059) From Abu al-Tufayl, from Abu Ja‘far (peace be upon him), regarding this verse, he said: It was revealed about us, and the steadfastness we were commanded to [observe] had not yet occurred; and that will be—there will be from our progeny the one who is stationed, and from the progeny of Ibn Nathil [1] the one who is stationed.

99-/2060 _15- عَنْ بُرَيْدٍ،عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ) ،فِي قَوْلِهِ: اِصْبِرُوا يَعْنِي بِذَلِكَ عَنِ الْمَعَاصِي وَ صٰابِرُوا يَعْنِي التَّقِيَّةَ وَ رٰابِطُوا يَعْنِي الْأَئِمَّةَ(عَلَيْهِمُ السَّلاَمُ)».

ثُمَّ قَالَ:«أَ تَدْرِي مَا مَعْنَى الْبُدُوا مَا لَبَدْنَا،فَإِذَا تَحَرَّكْنَا فَتَحَرَّكُوا؟ وَ اتَّقُوا اللّٰهَ مَا لَبَدْنَا،رَبَّكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ ».

قَالَ:قُلْتُ:جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ،إِنَّمَا نَقْرَؤُهَا وَ اتَّقُوا اللّٰهَ قَالَ:«أَنْتُمْ تَقْرَءُونَهَا كَذَا،وَ نَحْنُ نَقْرَؤُهَا هَكَذَا» [2].

99-/2060) From Burayd, from Abu Ja‘far (peace be upon him), regarding His saying: Be patient—meaning thereby: from sins; and excel in patience—meaning: taqiyyah; and remain steadfast—meaning: the Imams (peace be upon them). Then he said: Do you know what is meant by: “Stay still as long as we stay still; and when we move, then move. And be careful of Allah as long as we stay still, your Lord, that you may be successful”? He [the narrator] said: I said: May I be your ransom, we recite it as: And be careful of (your duty to) Allah. He said: You recite it thus, and we recite it thus. [2]

[2] Al-Majlisi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The meaning is: Do not hasten to rise up against the opponents; remain in your homes so long as nothing has appeared from us that necessitates movement—such as the call, the cry, and the signs of the advent of the Qa’im (peace be upon him). Its outward sense is that these additions were part of the verse; it may be an explanation of “remaining steadfast” and “excelling in patience,” with a figurative expression in his saying, “We read it thus”; and it is possible the divine name was added by scribes, so it would be: “And be careful of what we have stayed still about, your Lord.” As the narrator’s words hint. قوله تعالى:

إِنَّ اللّٰهَ لاٰ يَخْفىٰ عَلَيْهِ شَيْءٌ[5]

His saying, exalted is He:

Surely nothing is hidden from Allah in the earth or in the heaven. (Quran 3:5, M. H. Shakir)

99- _1- (الْإِحْتِجَاجُ)لِلطَّبْرِسِيِّ-فِي احْتِجَاجِ الْإِمَامِ الصَّادِقِ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ)عَلَى الزَّنَادِقَةِ-قَالَ: أَ وَ لَيْسَ تُوزَنُ الْأَعْمَالُ؟ قَالَ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ):«لاَ،إِنَّ الْأَعْمَالَ لَيْسَتْ بِأَجْسَامٍ،وَ إِنَّمَا هِيَ صِفَةُ مَا عَمِلُوا،وَ إِنَّمَا يَحْتَاجُ إِلَى وَزْنِ الشَّيْءِ مَنْ جَهِلَ عَدَدَ الْأَشْيَاءِ،وَ لاَ يَعْرِفُ ثِقْلَهَا أَوْ خِفَّتَهَا،وَ إِنَّ اللّٰهَ لاٰ يَخْفىٰ عَلَيْهِ شَيْءٌ ».

99-) 1- (al-Ihtijāj) by al-Tabrisi—in the argumentation of Imam al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) against the heretics—said: Are not deeds weighed? He (peace be upon him) said: No. Deeds are not bodies; rather, they are the description of what they have done. One only needs to weigh a thing if he is ignorant of the number of things and does not know their heaviness or lightness; and surely nothing is hidden from Allah.

قوله تعالى:

فَكَيْفَ إِذٰا جَمَعْنٰاهُمْ لِيَوْمٍ لاٰ رَيْبَ فِيهِ وَ وُفِّيَتْ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ مٰا كَسَبَتْ وَ هُمْ لاٰ يُظْلَمُونَ[25]

His saying, exalted is He:

How will it be, then, when We shall gather them together on a day about which there is no doubt, and every soul shall be paid in full what it has earned, and they shall not be dealt with unjustly? (Quran 3:25, M. H. Shakir)
