The Breeze of Nineveh
Shi'ites, once again Imam Husain (a.s.) longs for the air of Nineveh; His heart has turned toward the caravan of Karbala.
From the sanctuary of his grandfather’s Ka'bah, he washed his hands with tears; He left Marwah behind, yet Imam Husain (a.s.) still possesses true Ṣafā.
He takes to Karbala seventy-two great sacrifices; More than all of these, Imam Husain (a.s.) upholds the sanctity of the land of Minā.
Ahead lies the road to the abode of non-existence; His own tears and sighs are not enough—an entire world weeps behind Imam Husain (a.s.).
The litters move swiftly from station to station; No one knows whether Imam Husain (a.s.) is proceeding to a wedding or to a mourning.
When the garments and brocades of the sanctuary are plundered like flowers carried away by raiders, The state of Imam Husain (a.s.) becomes such that even his shroud is made of a reed mat.
Taking the women of the sanctuary was a divine command and a hidden mystery; Otherwise, how could such dishonor ever have been acceptable for Imam Husain (a.s.)?
The noble ones are moths circling the candle of his radiant face; Yet, like the dawn clearly appearing, Imam Husain (a.s.) has a head separated from his body.
He set his heart upon the path and journeyed toward Iraq; He himself reveals that Imam Husain (a.s.) has a covenant with Allah.
He is prepared to fulfill that covenant even at the cost of his head; Yet Imam Husain (a.s.) is heartbroken by the faithlessness of the Kufans.
His enemies are merciless, and his friends are disloyal; With which head shall Imam Husain (a.s.) bear this double burden?

The character of the family of Ali (a.s.) is intertwined with the destiny of Karbala; At every moment one of us manifests its image through Imam Husain (a.s.).
He shares his water even with thirsty enemies; Behold the extent of the dignity and freedom possessed by Imam Husain (a.s.).
Yet his enemies block water from reaching the family of the Ahl al-Bayt (a.s.); Judge for yourself what shameless people stand against Imam Husain (a.s.).
After this, every scene and every curtain is filled with tears and blood; Just look at the vividly colored scenes that Imam Husain (a.s.) has before him.
He is the instrument of love, and every arrow wound upon his heart is a plucked string; Listen! The whole world is filled with the tumult and melody of Imam Husain (a.s.).
At the end, when he became a stranger to everyone, I saw that still Imam Husain (a.s.) cast a familiar glance even toward the blade of the dagger.
Shimr says: I listened to hear what he would ask from Allah; Instead of a curse, I saw supplication upon the lips of Imam Husain (a.s.).
O blood-stained tears, come and sit in the eyes of Shahryar, For in this corner Imam Husain (a.s.) holds a sincere and unfeigned mourning.
