And a party of the followers of the Book say: Avow belief in that which has been revealed to those who believe, in the former part of the day, and disbelieve in the latter part of it, perhaps they may return. (Al Imran 3:72, M. H. Shakir)

/1747 _1-

/1747 _1- Ali ibn Ibrahim said: In the narration of Abu al-Jarud, from Abu Ja‘far (peace be upon him), regarding His saying, And a party of the People of the Book said: Believe in what has been sent down to those who believe at the beginning of the day and disbelieve at the end of it, that they might return: “When the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family) came to Medina, he was praying toward Bayt al-Maqdis, and that pleased the Jews. Then when Allah turned him away from Bayt al-Maqdis to the Sacred House, the Jews were angered by that, and the turning of the qibla occurred at the noon prayer. So they said: ‘Muhammad prayed the morning prayer facing our qibla; so believe in what has been sent down to Muhammad at the beginning of the day, and disbelieve at its end’—meaning the qibla when the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family) faced the Sacred Mosque—‘so that they might return to our qibla.’”

Al Imran 3:75

And among the followers of the Book there are those who, if you entrust them with a heap of wealth, would pay it back to you; and among them there are those who, if you entrust them with a dinar, would not pay it back to you unless you kept standing over them; this is because they say: There is not any blame on us in the matter of the unlearned people; and they tell a lie against Allah while they know. (Al Imran 3:75, M. H. Shakir)

/1748 _2-

_/1748 _2- Ali ibn Ibrahim said, regarding His saying: And among the People of the Book is he whom, if you entrust with a heap (of wealth), he will pay it back to you; and among them is he whom, if you entrust with a dinar, he will not pay it back to you unless you keep standing over him. That is because they said, “There is no path (of blame) upon us concerning the unlettered”: The Jews said, “It is lawful for us to take the property of the unlettered (al-ummiyyun).” And the unlettered are those who do not have a Book. So Allah refuted them, saying: And they say a lie against Allah while they know.

Al Imran 3:77

(As for) those who take a small price for the covenant of Allah and their own oaths—surely they shall have no portion in the hereafter, and Allah will not speak to them, nor will He look upon them on the day of resurrection, nor will He purify them, and they shall have a painful chastisement. (Al Imran 3:77, M. H. Shakir)
