70. The favor of Imam Husain (a.s.) upon his pilgrims who walk
Agha Sayyid Husain Moulavi, on Thursday 4/7/1392 SH, narrated to this humble servant several examples of the favors of Imam Husain (a.s.):
(1) Every year, on the 16th of Safar, we would depart on foot from Najaf Ashraf toward Karbala. On the night of the 17th, we passed through ‘Abbāsiyyāt, near sunset the weather changed. We had a Khaavar truck with us in which we had placed our belongings. We parked the truck under a bridge, set up a tent, tied one side of the tent to the bridge and the other side to the truck. We were eighty people gathered under that tent. The rain of mercy began to pour down.
On the other side of the bridge, they had placed a large cooking pot for feeding the pilgrims over a fire. The wind became so strong that it lifted that pot and threw it into the river.
Someone jumped into the water, lifted that pot by himself, brought it out, and placed it back on the stove.
Who was able to single-handedly lift a 40–50 kilogram pot out of the water and place it on the stove?!
(2) Hujjat al-Islam wal-Muslimin Agha Shaykh Husain Sibwayh was with us, acting as our Imam during the journey, and we followed him. He went to the riverside. The rain was so heavy that when he returned, all his clothes were soaked.
We told him: “Change your clothes.”
He did not do so, but let them dry on his body.
We prayed the morning prayer, then moved toward Kifl. In Kifl, water had collected so much that it had become like a small lake.
We had a twelve-meter carpet on the Khaavar truck, which had become completely muddy. Our friends said: “Let’s wash the carpet here.”
I said: “When will it dry?”
They washed it anyway, and within one hour it was dry.
At the riverside of Kifl, we ate lunch, then moved toward Twairij. The water and mud caused the truck to get stuck repeatedly and we had to push it, so we could not reach our destination. We had to set up the tent midway and spend the night of the 18th there.
Some of the group went ahead to reach the mudheef of Abdul-Husain. Agha Sibwayh and the Sadat Hakim all went ahead.
One of the companions of Agha Haj Abdul-Husain was a shoe-seller, now living in the holy city of Mashhad and known as Haj Abdul-Husain Baghdadi. His son, named Kazim, got lost.
We said: “He has surely gone ahead with the others.”
We stayed there overnight. The next morning we moved to the mudheef of Abdul-Husain. We saw that Kazim was not there, and became very worried.
Agha Haj Abdul-Husain called home and was told: “Kazim arrived home last night at 8 PM.”
They asked Kazim what happened.
He said: “I fell asleep on the road, fell behind the caravan. A blue-colored car came, picked me up, and took me back to Najaf. It dropped me off at the start of the Qibla bazaar, and I came home.”
We had lost him at 7 PM, and at 8 PM he was back in Najaf. How did a Benz car travel that entire distance in one hour — while our Khaavar could not even move through the mud?
From the mudheef of Abdul-Husain we brought a tractor, pulled the Khaavar truck out of the mud, pushed it until it could move again.
Kazim and his father Haj Abdul-Husain are still alive and live in holy Mashhad.

(3) We departed on the 16th of Safar. After the 17th of Safar, we crossed from the right side of the second bridge between Abdul-Husain and Twairij. On the right side, there were only thorns — not a single date palm tree existed.
We had put on a cassette of a eulogy and were reciting these verses:
“I am Umm al-Banin, the course of time has ruined me;
I have the right to cry out: O Husain, O my son!
The loss of my four sons would be easy for me if I could call:
O Husain, O my son — or if I could weep for Husain as my son.”
A noble lady was sitting on the straw along the roadside, lamenting, and whenever the cassette reached the line “O Husain, O my son”, she would cry so intensely she would start to sob.
When the cassette finished, this lady suddenly disappeared.
To the right of the road was a flat desert, to the left was a river, and for a long distance it was all open land. No one could understand who this lady was — except to say that surely Lady Umm al-Banin had manifested to show her kindness to the pilgrims of her son.

(4) On the Arbaeen pilgrimage route, between the second bridge and the third bridge, they said there was a shortcut through the orchards, which was very close. We had placed our supplies on the back of a mule, and took that path toward Karbala.
Along the way we saw a male water buffalo attacking two female water buffalo. We fled, and they chased us for about two hours until we reached the outskirts of Karbala.
When we saw the holy dome of Imam Husain (a.s.), we sought his intercession, and suddenly the buffalo stopped — just like a car slamming on the brakes.
We looked and saw all the supplies that we had loaded on the mule were now at our feet. We picked them up, put them back on the mule, and with peace of mind entered the sacred city of Karbala.

(5) On the 16th of Safar we departed from Najaf Ashraf, we were about 50–60 people. When we reached the bridge of Kifl (Dhul-Kifl), there were usually fishermen on that side of the bridge catching fish and selling them.
But the river had flooded, fishing was impossible, there were neither fishermen nor fish.
I said: “We are the guests of Imam Husain (a.s.); our share will reach us.”
We saw a large boat bobbing on the waves of the river, and it came straight toward us.
The fisherman gave us 16 fish from the boat and said to me: “Sayyid! Is this enough?”
I replied: “Yes.”
They were from the bunni (barbel) type.
At noon we grilled them, and they were exactly enough for what we needed. That night, from the heads of those fish, we made a fish head stew, and that too was exactly enough for our need.
