Surah Yusuf - Its Virtues

Whoever recites Surah Yusuf (peace be upon him) every day or every night, Allah, the Exalted, will raise him on the Day of Resurrection and his beauty will be like the beauty of Yusuf (peace be upon him). He will not be struck by terror on the Day of Resurrection, and he will be among the best of Allah’s righteous servants. And he said: Indeed, it was written in the Torah.

99-/5222

I heard him say: Whoever recites Surah Yusuf (peace be upon him) every day or every night, Allah will raise him on the Day of Resurrection and his beauty will be upon the beauty of Yusuf (peace be upon him). He will not be afflicted on the Day of Resurrection with what afflicts the people of terror, and his neighbors will be from among Allah’s righteous servants. Then he said: Indeed, Yusuf was among Allah’s righteous servants and he was protected in this world from being a fornicator or an obscene person.

99-/5223

Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him) said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family) said: Do not lodge women in upper rooms, do not teach them writing, and do not teach them Surah Yusuf [1]. Teach them the spindle and Surah an-Nur.

99-/5224

And from him: from a number of our companions, from Sahl ibn Ziyad, from ‘Ali ibn Asbat, from his uncle Ya‘qub ibn Salim, raised (to the Imam), who said: The Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) said: Do not teach your women Surah Yusuf, and do not recite it to them, for in it are trials; and teach them Surah an-Nur, for in it are admonitions.

99-/5225

Majma‘ al-Bayan: From the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family) that he said: Teach your slaves Surah Yusuf, for any Muslim who recites it and teaches it to his family and those whom his right hand possesses, Allah the Exalted will make the agonies of death easy for him, and He will grant him strength such that no Muslim will envy him.

99-/5226

And from (Khawas al-Qur’an) regarding Surah Yusuf: Al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: Whoever writes it and places it in his home for three days, then takes it out and puts it on a wall among the walls outside the house and buries it [1], he will find that the messenger of the ruler summons him to his service and directs him to his needs by Allah’s permission. Better than all of this is to write it and drink it; Allah will ease sustenance for him and grant him good fortune by Allah’s permission.

M. H. Shakir: In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. Alif Lam Ra. These are the verses of the Book that makes manifest. ‘Ali ibn Ibrahim: Regarding His saying, Alif Lam Ra. These are the verses of the clear Book. Surely We have revealed it as an Arabic Quran that you may understand: that is, so that you may understand. He said: Then Allah addressed His Prophet, saying: We relate to you the best of narratives by Our revealing to you this Quran, and indeed, before it you were among the unaware.
