S 56 Ayat 88 to 98

قوله تعالى:

فَأَمّٰا إِنْ كٰانَ مِنَ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ* فَرَوْحٌ وَ رَيْحٰانٌ وَ جَنَّةُ نَعِيمٍ* وَ أَمّٰا إِنْ كٰانَ مِنْ أَصْحٰابِ الْيَمِينِ* فَسَلاٰمٌ لَكَ مِنْ أَصْحٰابِ الْيَمِينِ* وَ أَمّٰا إِنْ كٰانَ مِنَ الْمُكَذِّبِينَ الضّٰالِّينَ* فَنُزُلٌ مِنْ حَمِيمٍ* وَ تَصْلِيَةُ جَحِيمٍ [88-98]

Then if he is one of those drawn nigh (to Allah),
Then happiness and bounty and a garden of bliss.
And if he is one of those on the right hand,
Then peace to you from those on the right hand.
And if he is one of the rejecters, the erring ones,
Then the entertainment of boiling water,
And burning in hell.
Most surely this is a certain truth.
Therefore glorify the name of your Lord, the Great.

99-/10447 _1- الشَّيْخُ فِي(أَمَالِيهِ)،قَالَ:أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ،قَالَ:أَخْبَرَنِي الْمُظَفَّرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ،قَالَ:أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي الثَّلْجِ،قَالَ:حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُوسَى الْهَاشِمِيُّ،قَالَ:حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الزُّرَارِيُّ،عَنْ أَبِيهِ،عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ،عَنْ أَبِي زَكَرِيَّا الْمَوْصِلِيِّ،عَنْ جَابِرٍ،عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ،عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ(عَلَيْهِمُ السَّلاَمُ):«أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ(صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ)قَالَ لِعَلِيٍّ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ): أَنْتَ الَّذِي احْتَجَّ اللَّهُ بِكَ فِي ابْتِدَائِهِ الْخَلْقَ حَيْثُ أَقَامَهُمْ أَشْبَاحاً،فَقَالَ لَهُمْ:أَ لَسْتُ بِرَبِّكُمْ؟قَالُوا:بَلَى.قَالَ:وَ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولِي؟قَالُوا:بَلَى.قَالَ:وَ عَلِيٌّ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ[وَصِيِّي]؟فَأَبَى الْخَلْقُ جَمِيعاً إِلاَّ اسْتِكْبَاراً وَ عُتُوّاً عَنْ وَلاَيَتِكَ إِلاَّ نَفَرٌ قَلِيلٌ،وَ هُمْ أَقَلُّ الْقَلِيلِ،وَ هُمْ أَصْحَابُ الْيَمِينِ».

99-/10447 Al-Shaykh (al-Ṭūsī) in al-Amālī, said: Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad narrated to us, who said: al-Muẓaffar ibn Muḥammad narrated to me, who said: Abū Bakr Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad ibn Abī al-Thalj narrated to us, who said: Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn Mūsā al-Hāshimī narrated to us, who said: Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Zurārī, from his father, from al-Ḥasan ibn Maḥbūb, from Abū Zakariyyā al-Mawṣilī, from Jābir, from Abū Jaʿfar, from his father, from his grandfather (peace be upon them), who said:

The Messenger of Allah (blessings of Allah be upon him and his family) said to ʿAlī (peace be upon him): “You are the one through whom Allah established His proof in the beginning of creation, when He raised them as shadows (forms without souls), and He said to them: ‘Am I not your Lord?’ They said: ‘Yes.’ He said: ‘And is Muḥammad My Messenger?’ They said: ‘Yes.’ He said: ‘And is ʿAlī the Commander of the Faithful [and My trustee]?’ But the entire creation refused — out of arrogance and rebellion — to accept your guardianship, except for a small group, the very few among the few — and they are the companions of the right (aṣḥāb al-yamīn).”

99-/10448 _2- ابْنُ بَابَوَيْهِ،قَالَ:حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ الْقَزْوِينِيُّ،قَالَ:حَدَّثَنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ النَّحْوِيُّ،قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْبَرْقِيُّ،عَنْ أَبِيهِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ،عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ مُقْبِلٍ الْمَدَنِيِّ،عَنْ مُوسَى ابْنِ جَعْفَرٍ،عَنْ أَبِيهِ الصَّادِقِ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ(عَلَيْهِمُ السَّلاَمُ)،قَالَ: «إِذَا مَاتَ الْمُؤْمِنُ شَيَّعَهُ سَبْعُونَ أَلْفَ مَلَكٍ إِلَى قَبْرِهِ، فَإِذَا أُدْخِلَ قَبْرَهُ جَاءَهُ مُنْكَرٌ وَ نَكِيرٌ فَيُقْعِدَانِهِ،فَيَقُولاَنِ لَهُ:مَنْ رَبُّكَ،وَ مَا دِينُكَ،وَ مَنْ نَبِيُّكَ؟فَيَقُولُ:رَبِّيَ اللَّهُ،وَ مُحَمَّدٌ نَبِيِّي،وَ الْإِسْلاَمُ دِينِي،فَيَفْسَحَانِ لَهُ فِي قَبْرِهِ مَدَّ بَصَرِهِ،وَ يَأْتِيَانِهِ بِالطَّعَامِ مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ،وَ يُدْخِلاَنِ عَلَيْهِ الرَّوْحَ وَ الرَّيْحَانَ، وَ ذَلِكَ قَوْلُهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ فَأَمّٰا إِنْ كٰانَ مِنَ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ* فَرَوْحٌ وَ رَيْحٰانٌ يَعْنِي فِي قَبْرِهِ وَ جَنَّةُ نَعِيمٍ يَعْنِي فِي الْآخِرَةِ».

99-/10448 Ibn Bābawayh said: ʿAlī ibn Ḥātim al-Qazwīnī narrated to us, who said: ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥusayn al-Naḥwī narrated to me, who said: Aḥmad ibn Abī ʿAbdillāh al-Barqī, from his father Muḥammad ibn Khālid, from Abū Ayyūb Sulaymān ibn Muqbil al-Madanī, from Mūsā ibn Jaʿfar, from his father al-Ṣādiq Jaʿfar ibn Muḥammad (peace be upon them), who said:

“When the believer dies, seventy thousand angels accompany him to his grave. When he is placed in his grave, Munkar and Nakīr come to him and seat him, and they say to him: ‘Who is your Lord? What is your religion? And who is your Prophet?’

He replies: ‘My Lord is Allah, Muḥammad is my Prophet, and Islam is my religion.’

So they expand his grave as far as his sight reaches, and they bring him provision from Paradise, and they bring to him rest and fragrant breeze.

And that is the saying of the Mighty and Majestic: ‘Then if he is one of those drawn nigh (to Allah) – Then happiness and bounty (rest and fragrance)’ — meaning, in his grave — ‘and a garden of bliss’ — meaning, in the Hereafter.”

ثُمَّ قَالَ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ):«إِذَا مَاتَ الْكَافِرُ شَيَّعَهُ سَبْعُونَ أَلْفَ مِنَ الزَّبَانِيَةِ إِلَى قَبْرِهِ،وَ إِنَّهُ لَيُنَاشِدُ حَامِلِيهِ بِصَوْتٍ يَسْمَعُهُ كُلُّ شَيْءٍ إِلاَّ الثَّقَلَيْنِ،وَ يَقُولُ:لَوْ أَنَّ لِي كَرَّةً فَأَكُونَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ؛وَ يَقُولُ:اِرْجِعُونِي لَعَلِّي أَعْمَلُ صَالِحاً فِيمَا تَرَكْتُ،فَتُجِيبُهُ الزَّبَانِيَةُ:كَلاَّ إِنَّهَا كَلِمَةٌ هُوَ قَائِلُهَا،وَ يُنَادِيهِمْ مَلَكٌ:لَوْ رُدَّ لَعَادَ لِمَا نُهِيَ عَنْهُ؛فَإِذَا أُدْخِلَ قَبْرَهُ وَ فَارَقَهُ النَّاسُ،أَتَاهُ مُنْكَرٌ وَ نَكِيرٌ فِي أَهْوَلِ صُورَةٍ فَيُقِيمَانِهِ،ثُمَّ يَقُولاَنِ لَهُ:مَنْ رَبُّكَ،وَ مَا دِينُكَ،وَ مَنْ نَبِيُّكَ؟فَيَتَلَجْلَجُ لِسَانُهُ، وَ لاَ يَقْدِرُ عَلَى الْجَوَابِ،فَيَضْرِبَانِهِ ضَرْبَةً مِنْ عَذَابِ اللَّهِ يُذْعَرُ لَهَا كُلُّ شَيْءٍ،ثُمَّ يَقُولاَنِ[لَهُ]:مَنْ رَبُّكَ،وَ مَا دِينُكَ، وَ مَنْ نَبِيُّكَ؟فَيَقُولُ:لاَ أَدْرِي،فَيَقُولاَنِ لَهُ:لاَ دَرَيْتَ وَ لاَ هُدِيتَ وَ لاَ أَفْلَحْتَ؛ثُمَّ يَفْتَحَانِ لَهُ بَاباً إِلَى النَّارِ،وَ يُنْزِلاَنِ إِلَيْهِ الْحَمِيمَ مِنْ جَهَنَّمَ،وَ ذَلِكَ قَوْلُ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ: وَ أَمّٰا إِنْ كٰانَ مِنَ الْمُكَذِّبِينَ الضّٰالِّينَ* فَنُزُلٌ مِنْ حَمِيمٍ يَعْنِي فِي الْقَبْرِ وَ تَصْلِيَةُ جَحِيمٍ يَعْنِي فِي الْآخِرَةِ».

Then he (peace be upon him) said:

“When the disbeliever dies, seventy thousand of the zabāniyah (angels of punishment) accompany him to his grave. Indeed, he pleads with his bearers in a voice heard by everything except the two weighty beings (humans and jinn), saying: ‘If only I had another chance, so I might be among the believers.’ And he says: ‘Return me, so that I might do good in what I left behind.’

But the zabāniyah respond: ‘No! It is only a word he is speaking.’ And a heralding angel says: ‘If he were to be returned, he would return to what he was forbidden.’

Then, when he is placed in his grave and the people depart from him, Munkar and Nakīr come to him in a terrifying form. They make him sit up and say to him: ‘Who is your Lord? What is your religion? And who is your Prophet?’

His tongue stammers, and he is unable to answer. So they strike him with a blow from the punishment of Allah that terrifies all of creation. Then they ask him again: ‘Who is your Lord? What is your religion? And who is your Prophet?’

He replies: ‘I don’t know.’ They say to him: ‘May you never know, nor be guided, nor succeed.’

Then they open a door for him to the Fire, and boiling water from Hell is poured down upon him.

And that is the saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: ‘And if he is one of the rejecters, the erring ones – Then the entertainment of boiling water’ — meaning, in the grave — ‘And burning in hell’ — meaning, in the Hereafter.”

99-/10449 _3- وَ عَنْهُ،قَالَ:حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ الْجَوْهَرِيُّ،قَالَ:حَدَّثَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْعَلَوِيُّ،قَالَ:حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْحِمْيَرِيُّ بِالْكُوفَةِ،قَالَ:حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ الْعُرَنِيُّ،عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ جُمَيْعٍ،عَنْ أَبِي الْمِقْدَامِ،قَالَ:قَالَ الصَّادِقُ جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ(عَلَيْهِمَا السَّلاَمُ): «نَزَلَتْ هَاتَانِ الْآيَتَانِ فِي أَهْلِ وَلاَيَتِنَا،وَ أَهْلِ عَدَاوَتِنَا فَأَمّٰا إِنْ كٰانَ مِنَ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ* فَرَوْحٌ وَ رَيْحٰانٌ يَعْنِي فِي قَبْرِهِ وَ جَنَّةُ نَعِيمٍ يَعْنِي فِي الْآخِرَةِ، وَ أَمّٰا إِنْ كٰانَ مِنَ الْمُكَذِّبِينَ الضّٰالِّينَ* فَنُزُلٌ مِنْ حَمِيمٍ يَعْنِي فِي قَبْرِهِ وَ تَصْلِيَةُ جَحِيمٍ يَعْنِي فِي الْآخِرَةِ».

99-/10449 And from him, he said: al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAlī ibn Shuʿayb al-Jawharī narrated to us, who said: ʿĪsā ibn Muḥammad al-ʿAlawī narrated to us, who said: al-Ḥusayn ibn al-Ḥasan al-Ḥimyārī in Kūfa narrated to us, who said: al-Ḥasan ibn al-Ḥusayn al-ʿUranī, from ʿAmrū ibn Jumayʿ, from Abū al-Miqdām, who said:

Jaʿfar ibn Muḥammad al-Ṣādiq (peace be upon them) said:

“These two verses were revealed regarding the people of our guardianship (wilāyah), and the people of our enmity:

‘Then if he is one of those drawn nigh – Then happiness and bounty (rest and fragrant breeze)’ — meaning in his grave — ‘And a garden of bliss’ — meaning in the Hereafter.

‘And if he is one of the rejecters, the erring ones – Then the entertainment of boiling water’ — meaning in his grave — ‘And burning in hell’ — meaning in the Hereafter.”

99-/10450 _4- مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ:عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ،عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ النَّهْدِيِّ،عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ حُكَيْمٍ، عَنْ بَعْضِ رِجَالِهِ،عَنْ عَنْبَسَةَ بْنِ بِجَادٍ،عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ) ،فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ: وَ أَمّٰا إِنْ كٰانَ مِنْ أَصْحٰابِ الْيَمِينِ* فَسَلاٰمٌ لَكَ مِنْ أَصْحٰابِ الْيَمِينِ ،فَقَالَ:«قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ(صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ)لِعَلِيٍّ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ):هُمْ شِيعَتُكَ، فَسَلِمَ وُلْدُكَ مِنْهُمْ أَنْ يَقْتُلُوهُمْ».

99-/10450 Muḥammad ibn Yaʿqūb, from al-Ḥusayn ibn Muḥammad, from Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad al-Nahdī, from Muʿāwiyah ibn Ḥakīm, from one of his men, from ʿAnbasah ibn Bijād, from Abū ʿAbdillāh (peace be upon him), regarding the saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic:

“And if he is one of the companions of the right hand – Then peace to you from the companions of the right hand” [Qur’an 56:90–91] —

He said: “The Messenger of Allah (blessings of Allah be upon him and his family) said to ʿAlī (peace be upon him): They are your Shīʿah. So your children are to be at peace from them, that they may not kill them.”

99-/10451 _5- وَ عَنْهُ:عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ،عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ،عَنْ آدَمَ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ،عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ، عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ،عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ،عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ)،قَالَ: «أُنْزِلَ فِي الْوَاقِعَةِ: وَ أَمّٰا إِنْ كٰانَ مِنَ الْمُكَذِّبِينَ الضّٰالِّينَ* فَنُزُلٌ مِنْ حَمِيمٍ* وَ تَصْلِيَةُ جَحِيمٍ فَهَؤُلاَءِ مُشْرِكُونَ».

99-/10451 And from him, from ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad, from one of his companions, from Ādam ibn Isḥāq, from ʿAbd al-Razzāq ibn Mihrān, from al-Ḥusayn ibn Maymūn, from Muḥammad ibn Sālim, from Abū Jaʿfar (peace be upon him), who said:

“It was revealed in [Sūrat] al-Wāqiʿah: ‘And if he is one of the rejecters, the erring ones – Then the entertainment of boiling water – And burning in hell’ [Qur’an 56:92–94] — These are the polytheists.”

99-/10452 _6- عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ،قَالَ:أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ،قَالَ:حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ،عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ،عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ،عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ،قَالَ:سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ)يَقُولُ: فَأَمّٰا إِنْ كٰانَ مِنَ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ فَرَوْحٌ وَ رَيْحٰانٌ قَالَ:«فِي قَبْرِهِ وَ جَنَّةُ نَعِيمٍ فِي الْآخِرَةِ، وَ أَمّٰا إِنْ كٰانَ مِنَ الْمُكَذِّبِينَ الضّٰالِّينَ * فَنُزُلٌ مِنْ حَمِيمٍ فِي قَبْرِهِ وَ تَصْلِيَةُ جَحِيمٍ فِي الْآخِرَةِ».

99-/10452 ʿAlī ibn Ibrāhīm said: Aḥmad ibn Idrīs informed us, who said: Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad narrated to us, from Muḥammad ibn Abī ʿUmayr, from Isḥāq ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz, from Abū Baṣīr, who said:

I heard Abū ʿAbdillāh (peace be upon him) say, regarding the verse: “Then if he is one of those drawn nigh – Then happiness and bounty” — He said: “That is in his grave. ‘And a garden of bliss’ — that is in the Hereafter.

‘And if he is one of the rejecters, the erring ones – Then the entertainment of boiling water’ — that is in his grave. ‘And burning in hell’ — that is in the Hereafter.”

99-/10453 _7- مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَبَّاسِ،قَالَ:حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْعَبَّاسِ،عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ،عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ زِيَادٍ،عَنْ عَنْبَسَةَ الْعَابِدِ،عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ،عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ) ،فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ: فَسَلاٰمٌ لَكَ مِنْ أَصْحٰابِ الْيَمِينِ ،قَالَ:«هُمُ الشِّيعَةُ،قَالَ اللَّهُ سُبْحَانَهُ لِنَبِيِّهِ(صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ)،فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ: فَسَلاٰمٌ لَكَ مِنْ أَصْحٰابِ الْيَمِينِ يَعْنِي أَنَّكَ تَسْلَمُ مِنْهُمْ لاَ يَقْتُلُونَ وُلْدَكَ».

99-/10453 Muḥammad ibn al-ʿAbbās said: ʿAlī ibn al-ʿAbbās narrated to us, from Jaʿfar ibn Muḥammad, from Mūsā ibn Ziyād, from ʿAnbasah al-ʿĀbid, from Jābir ibn Yazīd, from Abū Jaʿfar (peace be upon him), regarding the saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: “Then peace to you from the companions of the right hand” [Qur’an 56:91] —

He said: “They are the Shīʿah. Allah, Glorified be He, said to His Prophet (blessings of Allah be upon him and his family), in His saying: ‘Then peace to you from the companions of the right hand’ — meaning: that you will be safe from them, they will not kill your offspring.”

99-/10454 _8- وَ عَنْهُ،قَالَ:حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ،عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الثَّقَفِيِّ،عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِمْرَانَ،عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ حُمَيْدٍ،عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ،عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ) ،فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ: وَ أَمّٰا إِنْ كٰانَ مِنْ أَصْحٰابِ الْيَمِينِ* فَسَلاٰمٌ لَكَ مِنْ أَصْحٰابِ الْيَمِينِ ،قَالَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ):«هُمْ شِيعَتُنَا وَ مُحِبُّونَا».

99-/10454 And from him, he said: ʿAlī ibn ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us, from Ibrāhīm ibn Muḥammad al-Thaqafī, from Muḥammad ibn ʿImrān, from ʿĀṣim ibn Ḥumayd, from Muḥammad ibn Muslim, from Abū Jaʿfar (peace be upon him), regarding the saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: “And if he is one of the companions of the right hand – Then peace to you from the companions of the right hand” [Qur’an 56:90–91] —

Abū Jaʿfar (peace be upon him) said: “They are our Shīʿah and those who love us.”

99-/10455 _9- وَ عَنْهُ،قَالَ:حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ يَحْيَى،عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْفَضْلِ،عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ،عَنْ أَبِيهِ،عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ،عَنْ أَبِيهِ،قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ)،عَنْ قَوْلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ: فَأَمّٰا إِنْ كٰانَ مِنَ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ* فَرَوْحٌ وَ رَيْحٰانٌ وَ جَنَّةُ نَعِيمٍ ،فَقَالَ:«هَذَا فِي أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَ الْأَئِمَّةِ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ(صَلَوَاتُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِمْ)».

99-/10455 And from him, he said: ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Yaḥyā narrated to us, from Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-Faḍl, from Jaʿfar ibn al-Ḥusayn, from his father, from Muḥammad ibn Zayd, from his father, who said:

I asked Abū Jaʿfar (peace be upon him) about the saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: “Then if he is one of those drawn nigh – Then happiness and bounty and a garden of bliss” [Qur’an 56:88–89] —

He said: “This refers to the Commander of the Faithful and the Imams after him (blessings of Allah be upon them).”

99-/10456 _10- وَ عَنْهُ:عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ،عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى،عَنْ يُونُسَ،عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ فُضَيْلٍ،عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ حُمْرَانَ [1]،قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِأَبِي جَعْفَرٍ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ):فَقَوْلُهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ: فَأَمّٰا إِنْ كٰانَ مِنَ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ ؟قَالَ:«ذَلِكَ مَنْ[كَانَتْ لَهُ]مَنْزِلَةٌ عِنْدَ الْإِمَامِ».

قُلْتُ: وَ أَمّٰا إِنْ كٰانَ مِنْ أَصْحٰابِ الْيَمِينِ ؟قَالَ:«ذَلِكَ مَنْ وُصِفَ بِهَذَا الْأَمْرِ» قُلْتُ: وَ أَمّٰا إِنْ كٰانَ مِنَ الْمُكَذِّبِينَ الضّٰالِّينَ ؟قَالَ:«الْجَاحِدِينَ لِلْإِمَامِ».

99-/10456 And from him, from al-Ḥusayn ibn Aḥmad, from Muḥammad ibn ʿĪsā, from Yūnus, from Muḥammad ibn Fuḍayl, from Muḥammad ibn Ḥumrān, who said:

I said to Abū Jaʿfar (peace be upon him) regarding the saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: “Then if he is one of those drawn nigh” [Qur’an 56:88] — He said: “That is one who has a status with the Imam.”

I said: “And if he is one of the companions of the right hand?” He said: “That is one who is described with this matter (i.e., adheres to the cause of the Imams).”

I said: “And if he is one of the rejecters, the erring ones?” He said: “Those are the deniers of the Imam.”

99-/10457 _11- الطَّبْرِسِيُّ فِي(جَوَامِعِ الْجَامِعِ):فَرُوحٌ بِالضَّمِّ،وَ هُوَ الْمَرْوِيُّ عَنِ الْبَاقِرِ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ) ،أَيْ فَرَحْمَةٌ لِأَنَّ الرَّحْمَةَ كَالْحَيَاةِ لِلْمَرْحُومِ.

99-/10457 Al-Ṭabrisī in Jawāmiʿ al-Jāmiʿ: "Faroḥun" (with ḍammah on the rāʼ) — and this is what is narrated from al-Bāqir (peace be upon him) — meaning: mercy, because mercy is like life for the one upon whom it is bestowed.
