S 98 Ayat 1 to 8
قوله تعالى:
بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ لَمْ يَكُنِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتٰابِ وَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ مُنْفَكِّينَ حَتّٰى تَأْتِيَهُمُ الْبَيِّنَةُ -إلى قوله تعالى- رَضِيَ اللّٰهُ عَنْهُمْ وَ رَضُوا عَنْهُ ذٰلِكَ لِمَنْ خَشِيَ رَبَّهُ [1-8]
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
"Those who disbelieve from among the People of the Book and the polytheists could not have been freed until there came to them the clear evidence,
A messenger from Allah, reciting pure pages,
Wherein are all the right ordinances.
And those who were given the Book did not become divided except after clear evidence had come to them.
And they were not enjoined anything except that they should serve Allah, being sincere to Him in obedience, upright, and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate, and that is the right religion.
Surely those who disbelieve from among the People of the Book and the polytheists shall be in the fire of hell, abiding therein; they are the worst of men.
(As for) those who believe and do good, surely they are the best of men.
Their reward with their Lord is gardens of perpetuity beneath which rivers flow, abiding therein for ever; Allah is well pleased with them and they are well pleased with Him; that is for him who fears his Lord."

99-/11798 _1- شَرَفُ الدِّينِ النَّجَفِيُّ،قَالَ:رَوَى مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الْبَرْقِيُّ مَرْفُوعاً،عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شِمْرٍ،عَنْ جَابِرِ ابْنِ يَزِيدَ،عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ) ،فِي قَوْلِهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ: لَمْ يَكُنِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتٰابِ ،قَالَ:«هُمْ مُكَذِّبُو الشِّيعَةِ،لِأَنَّ الْكِتَابَ هُوَ الْآيَاتُ،وَ أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ الشِّيعَةُ».
وَ قَوْلُهُ: وَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ مُنْفَكِّينَ يَعْنِي الْمُرْجِئَةَ حَتّٰى تَأْتِيَهُمُ الْبَيِّنَةُ ،قَالَ:حَتَّى يَتَّضِحَ لَهُمُ الْحَقُّ، وَ قَوْلُهُ: رَسُولٌ مِنَ اللّٰهِ يَعْنِي مُحَمَّداً(صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ)، يَتْلُوا صُحُفاً مُطَهَّرَةً يَعْنِي يَدُلُّ عَلَى اولِي الْأَمْرِ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ وَ هُمُ الْأَئِمَّةُ(عَلَيْهِمُ السَّلاَمُ)وَ هُمُ الصُّحُفُ الْمُطَهَّرَةُ.
وَ قَوْلُهُ: فِيهٰا كُتُبٌ قَيِّمَةٌ أَيْ عِنْدَهُمُ الْحَقُّ الْمُبِينُ،وَ قَوْلُهُ: وَ مٰا تَفَرَّقَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتٰابَ يَعْنِي مُكَذِّبِي الشِّيعَةِ،وَ قَوْلُهُ: إِلاّٰ مِنْ بَعْدِ مٰا جٰاءَتْهُمُ الْبَيِّنَةُ أَيْ مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا جَاءَهُمُ الْحَقُّ وَ مٰا أُمِرُوا هَؤُلاَءِ الْأَصْنَافُ إِلاّٰ لِيَعْبُدُوا اللّٰهَ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ الدِّينَ وَ الْإِخْلاَصُ:اَلْإِيمَانُ بِاللَّهِ وَ رَسُولِهِ وَ الْأَئِمَّةِ(عَلَيْهِمُ السَّلاَمُ)،وَ قَوْلُهُ:
وَ يُقِيمُوا الصَّلاٰةَ وَ يُؤْتُوا الزَّكٰاةَ وَ الصَّلاَةُ [1]:أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ) وَ ذٰلِكَ دِينُ الْقَيِّمَةِ .قَالَ:هِيَ فَاطِمَةُ(عَلَيْهَا السَّلاَمُ).
وَ قَوْلُهُ: اَلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَ عَمِلُوا الصّٰالِحٰاتِ ،قَالَ:اَلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا بِاللَّهِ وَ رَسُولِهِ وَ بِأُولِي الْأَمْرِ وَ أَطَاعُوهُمْ بِمَا
99-/11798 Sharaf al-Din al-Najafi said: Muhammad ibn Khalid al-Barqi narrated with an elevated chain from 'Amr ibn Shimr, from Jabir ibn Yazid, from Abu Ja‘far (peace be upon him), regarding the saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: "Those who disbelieve from among the People of the Book..."—he said: "They are the deniers of the Shia, for 'the Book' refers to the verses, and 'the People of the Book' are the Shia."
And regarding His saying: "and the polytheists were not to be freed...", he said: "It means the Murji’ah, until the clear evidence comes to them," meaning until the truth becomes evident to them.
And regarding His saying: "A messenger from Allah...", he said: "It refers to Muhammad (may Allah bless him and his family)."
And regarding "reciting purified pages...", he said: "It means indicating the guardians of the command (ulul amr) after him, who are the Imams (peace be upon them), and they are the purified pages."
And regarding His saying: "wherein are right ordinances...", he said: "It means that with them is the manifest truth."
And regarding His saying: "And those who were given the Book did not become divided...", he said: "It refers to those who deny the Shia."
And regarding "except after clear evidence had come to them...", he said: "That is, after the truth had come to them."
And regarding "And they were not enjoined anything except that they should serve Allah, being sincere to Him in obedience...", he said: "Sincerity is faith in Allah, His Messenger, and the Imams (peace be upon them)."
And regarding His saying: "and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate...", he said: "Prayer [1] refers to the Commander of the Faithful, Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him)."
And "that is the right religion...", he said: "It refers to Fatima (peace be upon her)."
And regarding His saying: "Those who believe and do good...", he said: "They are those who believe in Allah, His Messenger, and the guardians of the command (ulul amr), and they obey them in what..."

أَمَرُوهُمْ بِهِ،فَذَلِكَ هُوَ الْإِيمَانُ وَ الْعَمَلُ الصَّالِحُ.

"...they were commanded with. That is true faith and righteous deeds."
/11799 _2-و قال:قوله: رَضِيَ اللّٰهُ عَنْهُمْ وَ رَضُوا عَنْهُ ،
قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ): «اللَّهُ رَاضٍ عَنِ الْمُؤْمِنِ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَ الْآخِرَةِ،وَ الْمُؤْمِنِ وَ إِنْ كَانَ رَاضِياً عَنِ اللَّهِ فَإِنَّ فِي قَلْبِهِ مَا فِيهِ،لِمَا يَرَى فِي هَذِهِ الدُّنْيَا مِنَ التَّمْحِيصِ،فَإِذَا عَايَنَ الثَّوَابَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ رَضِيَ عَنِ اللَّهِ الْحَقِّ حَقَّ الرِّضَا،وَ هُوَ قَوْلُهُ: وَ رَضُوا عَنْهُ ،وَ قَوْلُهُ: ذٰلِكَ لِمَنْ خَشِيَ رَبَّهُ أَيْ أَطَاعَ رَبَّهُ».
99-/11799 And regarding His saying: "Allah is well pleased with them, and they are well pleased with Him...",
Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him) said: "Allah is pleased with the believer in this world and the Hereafter. And although the believer is pleased with Allah, there is still something in his heart due to what he sees in this world of trials and purification. But when he witnesses the reward on the Day of Judgment, he will be truly and completely pleased with Allah, the Absolute Truth. And this is His saying: 'and they are well pleased with Him.'
And regarding His saying: 'That is for him who fears his Lord,' it means: 'The one who obeys his Lord.'"
99-/11800 _3- شَرَفُ الدِّينِ النَّجَفِيُّ:وَ رَوَى عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَسْبَاطٍ،عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ،عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ،عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ) ،فِي قَوْلِهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ: وَ ذٰلِكَ دِينُ الْقَيِّمَةِ ،قَالَ:«هُوَ ذَلِكَ دِينُ [1]الْقَائِمِ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ)».
99-/11800 Sharaf al-Din al-Najafi: ‘Ali ibn Asbat narrated from Ibn Abi Hamza, from Abu Basir, from Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him), regarding the saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: "And that is the right religion."
He said: "That is the religion of [1] the Qa’im (peace be upon him)."
99-/11801 _4- مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَبَّاسِ:عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ الْهَيْثَمِ،عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْوَاحِدِ،عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ مُسَاوِرٍ،عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ زِيَادٍ،عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُهَاجِرٍ،عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ شَرَاحِيلَ كَاتِبِ عَلِيٍّ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ)، قَالَ:سَمِعْتُ عَلِيّاً(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ)يَقُولُ: «حَدَّثَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ(صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ)وَ أَنَا مُسْنِدُهُ إِلَى صَدْرِي،وَ عَائِشَةُ عِنْدَ أُذُنِي، فَأَصْغَتْ عَائِشَةُ لِتَسْمَعَ إِلَى مَا يَقُولُ،فَقَالَ:أَيْ أَخِي،أَ لَمْ تَسْمَعْ قَوْلَ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ: إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَ عَمِلُوا الصّٰالِحٰاتِ أُولٰئِكَ هُمْ خَيْرُ الْبَرِيَّةِ أَنْتَ وَ شِيعَتُكَ،وَ مَوْعِدِي وَ مَوْعِدُكُمُ الْحَوْضُ إِذَا جَثَتِ الْأُمَمُ تُدْعَوْنَ غُرّاً مُحَجَّلِينَ شِبَاعاً مَرْوِيِّينَ».
99-/11801 Muhammad ibn al-‘Abbas: from Ahmad ibn al-Haytham, from al-Hasan ibn ‘Abd al-Wahid, from al-Hasan ibn al-Husayn, from Yahya ibn Musawir, from Isma‘il ibn Ziyad, from Ibrahim ibn Muhajir, from Yazid ibn Sharahil, the scribe of Ali (peace be upon him), who said:
I heard Ali (peace be upon him) say: "The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family) told me while I was leaning on his chest, and ‘A’isha was near my ear. ‘A’isha inclined to listen to what he was saying.
He said: ‘O my brother, have you not heard the saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic:
“Surely those who believe and do good, they are the best of men.” (Surah Al-Bayyina 98:7)
You and your Shia are [included in this verse]. My meeting place and yours shall be at the Hawd (the Pool) when the nations kneel down. You will be called forward with shining faces and bright limbs, fully satiated and well-watered.’"
99-/11802 _5- وَ عَنْهُ:عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ هَوْذَةَ،عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ،عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ حَمَّادٍ،عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شِمْرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي مِخْنَفٍ،عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ [2]،ثُمَّ إِنَّهُ وَجَدَ فِي كُتُبِ أَبِيهِ أَنَّ عَلِيّاً(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ)قَالَ:«سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ(صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ)يَقُولُ: إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَ عَمِلُوا الصّٰالِحٰاتِ أُولٰئِكَ هُمْ خَيْرُ الْبَرِيَّةِ ،ثُمَّ الْتَفَتَ إِلَيَّ فَقَالَ:أَنْتَ يَا عَلِيُّ وَ شِيعَتُكَ،وَ مِيعَادُكَ وَ مِيعَادُهُمُ الْحَوْضُ،تَأْتُونَ غُرّاً مُحَجَّلِينَ مُتَوَّجِينَ».قَالَ يَعْقُوبُ:فَحَدَّثْتُ بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ)،فَقَالَ:«هَكَذَا هُوَ عِنْدَنَا فِي كِتَابِ عَلِيٍّ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ)».
99-/11802 And from him: from Ahmad ibn Hawdhah, from Ibrahim ibn Ishaq, from ‘Abdullah ibn Hammad, from ‘Amr ibn Shimr, from Abu Mikhnaf, from Ya‘qub ibn Yazid [2], then he found in his father’s books that Ali (peace be upon him) said:
"I heard the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family) say:
'Surely those who believe and do good, they are the best of men.' (Surah Al-Bayyina 98:7)
Then he turned to me and said: 'It is you, O ‘Ali, and your Shia. Your appointed place and theirs is at the Hawd (the Pool); you will come with shining faces, bright limbs, and crowned.'"
Ya‘qub said: "I narrated this hadith to Abu Ja‘far (peace be upon him), and he said: 'This is exactly how it is with us in the Book of Ali (peace be upon him).'"
99-/11803 _6- وَ عَنْهُ:عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الْوَرَّاقِ،عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ،عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ،عَنْ مُصْعَبِ بْنِ سَلاَّمٍ،عَنْ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ الثُّمَالِيِّ،عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ)،عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ(رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ)،قَالَ:«قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ(صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ) فِي مَرَضِهِ الَّذِي قُبِضَ فِيهِ لِفَاطِمَةَ(عَلَيْهَا السَّلاَمُ):يَا بُنَيَّةِ بِأَبِي أَنْتَ وَ أُمِّي،أَرْسِلِي إِلَى بَعْلِكِ فَادْعِيهِ إِلَيَّ»، فَقَالَتْ فَاطِمَةُ لِلْحَسَنِ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ):اِنْطَلِقْ إِلَى أَبِيكَ،فَقُلْ لَهُ:إِنَّ جَدِّي يَدْعُوكَ.فَانْطَلَقَ إِلَيْهِ الْحَسَنُ فَدَعَاهُ،فَأَقْبَلَ أَمِيرُ
99-/11803 And from him: from Ahmad ibn Muhammad al-Warraq, from Ahmad ibn Ibrahim, from al-Hasan ibn Abi ‘Abdillah, from Mus‘ab ibn Salam, from Abu Hamza al-Thumali, from Abu Ja‘far (peace be upon him), from Jabir ibn ‘Abdillah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:
"The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family), in the illness in which he passed away, said to Fatima (peace be upon her): ‘O my daughter, may my father and mother be sacrificed for you, send for your husband and call him to me.’
So Fatima said to al-Hasan (peace be upon him): ‘Go to your father and tell him that my grandfather is calling for you.’
So al-Hasan went to him and called him, and the Commander of..."

الْمُؤْمِنِينَ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ)حَتَّى دَخَلَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ(صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ)وَ فَاطِمَةُ عِنْدَهُ،وَ هِيَ تَقُولُ:وَا كَرْبَاهْ لِكَرْبِكَ يَا أَبَتَاهْ.فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ(صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ):لاَ كَرْبَ عَلَى أَبِيكِ بَعْدَ هَذَا الْيَوْمِ.يَا فَاطِمَةُ،إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ لاَ يُشَقُّ عَلَيْهِ الْجَيْبُ،وَ لاَ يُخْمَشُ عَلَيْهِ الْوَجْهُ،وَ لاَ يُدْعَى عَلَيْهِ بِالْوَيْلِ،وَ لَكِنْ قُولِي كَمَا قَالَ أَبُوكِ عَلَى ابْنِهِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ:تَدْمَعُ الْعَيْنُ،وَ قَدْ يُوجَعُ الْقَلْبُ،وَ لاَ نَقُولُ مَا يُسْخِطُ الرَّبَّ،وَ إِنَّا بِكَ-يَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ-لَمَحْزُونُونَ،وَ لَوْ عَاشَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ لَكَانَ نَبِيّاً.
ثُمَّ قَالَ:يَا عَلِيُّ ادْنُ مِنِّي.فَدَنَا مِنْهُ،فَقَالَ:أَدْخِلْ أُذُنَكَ فِي فَمِي.فَفَعَلَ،فَقَالَ:يَا أَخِي،أَ لَمَ تَسْمَعْ قَوْلَ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ فِي كِتَابِهِ: إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَ عَمِلُوا الصّٰالِحٰاتِ أُولٰئِكَ هُمْ خَيْرُ الْبَرِيَّةِ ؟قَالَ:بَلَى،يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ.
قَالَ:هُمْ أَنْتَ وَ شِيعَتُكَ،تَجِيئُونَ غُرّاً مُحَجَّلِينَ شِبَاعاً مَرْوِيِّينَ،أَ لَمْ تَسْمَعْ قَوْلَ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ فِي كِتَابِهِ: إِنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتٰابِ وَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ فِي نٰارِ جَهَنَّمَ خٰالِدِينَ فِيهٰا أُولٰئِكَ هُمْ شَرُّ الْبَرِيَّةِ ؟قَالَ:بَلَى،يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ:هُمْ أَعْدَاؤُكَ وَ شِيعَتُهُمْ،يَجِيئُونَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ مُسْوَدَّةً وُجُوهُهُمْ ظِمَاءً مُظْمَئِينَ،أَشْقِيَاءَ مُعَذَّبِينَ،كُفَّاراً مُنَافِقِينِ، ذَاكَ لَكَ وَ لِشِيعَتِكَ،وَ هَذَا لِعَدُوِّكَ وَ شِيعَتِهِمْ».
99-/11803 (continuation)
The Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) entered upon the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family) while Fatima was with him, saying: "O my father! What great distress your suffering brings!"
The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family) said: "There will be no distress upon your father after this day. O Fatima, a prophet is not to have his collar torn in mourning, nor his face scratched, nor is wailing to be called over him. But rather, say as your father said upon his son Ibrahim: 'The eye weeps, and the heart grieves, but we do not say what angers the Lord. Indeed, we are sorrowful for you, O Ibrahim.'
And if Ibrahim had lived, he would have been a prophet."
Then he said: "O Ali, come near me." So he approached him, and he said: "Put your ear close to my mouth." He did so, and the Prophet said:
*"O my brother, have you not heard the saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, in His Book:
'Surely those who believe and do good, they are the best of men.' (Surah Al-Bayyina 98:7)"*
Ali said: "Indeed, O Messenger of Allah."
The Prophet said: *"They are you and your Shia. You will come with shining faces, bright limbs, fully satiated and well-watered.
Have you not heard the saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, in His Book:
'Surely those who disbelieve from among the People of the Book and the polytheists shall be in the fire of hell, abiding therein; they are the worst of men.' (Surah Al-Bayyina 98:6)"*
Ali said: "Indeed, O Messenger of Allah."
The Prophet said: "They are your enemies and the followers of your enemies. They will come on the Day of Judgment with blackened faces, thirsty and parched, wretched and tormented, disbelievers and hypocrites. This [reward] is for you and your Shia, and that [punishment] is for your enemy and their followers."
99-/11804 _7- وَ عَنْهُ:عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الْحَسَنِيِّ،وَ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ الْكَاتِبِ،قَالَ:حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ خَلَفٍ،عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ،عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ،عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي رَافِعٍ،عَنْ أَبِيهِ،عَنْ جَدِّهِ أَبِي رَافِعٍ:أَنَّ عَلِيّاً(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ) قَالَ لِأَهْلِ الشُّورَى: «أَنْشُدُكُمْ بِاللَّهِ،هَلْ تَعْلَمُونَ يَوْمَ أَتَيْتُكُمْ وَ أَنْتُمْ جُلُوسٌ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ(صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ)فَقَالَ:هَذَا أَخِي قَدْ أَتَاكُمْ،ثُمَّ الْتَفَتَ إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ،قَالَ:وَ رَبِّ الْكَعْبَةِ الْمَبْنِيَّةِ،إِنَّ هَذَا وَ شِيعَتَهُ هُمُ الْفَائِزُونَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ،ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ عَلَيْكُمْ وَ قَالَ:أَمَا إِنِّي أَوَّلُكُمْ إِيمَاناً،وَ أَقْوَمُكُمْ بِأَمْرِ اللَّهِ،وَ أَوْفَاكُمْ بِعَهْدِ اللَّهِ،وَ أَقْضَاكُمْ بِحُكْمِ اللَّهِ،وَ أَعْدَلُكُمْ فِي الرَّعِيَّةِ، وَ أَقْسَمُكُمْ بِالسَّوِيَّةِ،وَ أَعْظَمُكُمْ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ مَزِيَّةً،فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ سُبْحَانَهُ: إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَ عَمِلُوا الصّٰالِحٰاتِ أُولٰئِكَ هُمْ خَيْرُ الْبَرِيَّةِ فَكَبَّرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ(صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ)وَ كَبَّرْتُمْ،وَ هَنَّأْتُمُونِي بِأَجْمَعِكُمْ،فَهَلْ تَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّ ذَلِكَ كَذَلِكَ؟»قَالُوا:
اللَّهُمَّ نَعَمْ.
99-/11804 And from him: from Ja‘far ibn Muhammad al-Hasani and Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Katib, who said: Muhammad ibn ‘Ali ibn Khalaf narrated to us, from Ahmad ibn ‘Abdillah, from Mu‘awiyah, from ‘Ubaydullah ibn Abi Rafi‘, from his father, from his grandfather Abu Rafi‘:
That Ali (peace be upon him) said to the people of the Shura:
*"I adjure you by Allah! Do you know the day when I came to you while you were sitting with the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family), and he said: ‘Here comes my brother to you.’ Then he turned toward the Ka‘bah and said: ‘By the Lord of this built Ka‘bah, this man and his Shia are the successful ones on the Day of Judgment.’ Then he turned to you and said:
‘Indeed, I am the first of you in faith, the most upright among you in fulfilling the command of Allah, the most faithful in upholding the covenant of Allah, the most decisive in judging by the law of Allah, the most just among you in governing the subjects, the fairest among you in distribution, and the one with the greatest status before Allah.’
Then Allah, the Glorified, revealed:
'Surely those who believe and do good, they are the best of men.' (Surah Al-Bayyina 98:7)
Then the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family) exclaimed ‘Allahu Akbar!’ and you all did the same, and you all congratulated me. Do you acknowledge that this happened as I say?"*
They said: "By Allah, yes."
99-/11805 _8- الشَّيْخُ فِي(أَمَالِيهِ)،قَالَ:قُرِئَ عَلَى أَبِي الْقَاسِمِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ شِبْلِ بْنِ أَسَدٍ الْوَكِيلِ،وَ أَنَا أَسْمَعُ،فِي مَنْزِلِهِ بِبَغْدَادَ فِي الرَّبَضِ بِبَابِ مُحَوَّلٍ فِي صَفَرٍ سَنَةَ عَشْرٍ وَ أَرْبَعِمِائَةٍ:حَدَّثَنَا ظَفَرُ بْنُ حُمْدُونِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ شَدَّادٍ الْبَادَرَائِيُّ أَبُو مَنْصُورٍ بِبَادَرَايَا فِي شَهْرِ رَبِيعٍ الْآخَرِ مِنْ سَنَةِ سَبْعٍ وَ أَرْبَعِينَ وَ ثَلاَثِمِائَةٍ،قَالَ:حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ النَّهَاوَنْدِيُّ الْأَحْمَرِيُّ فِي مَنْزِلِهِ بِفَارِسْفَانَ مِنْ رُسْتَاقِ الْأَسْفِيدِهَانِ مِنْ كُورَةِ نَهَاوَنْدَ فِي شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ مِنْ سَنَةِ خَمْسٍ وَ تِسْعِينَ وَ مِائَتَيْنِ،قَالَ:حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ،عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شِمْرٍ،عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ مِيثَمٍ التَّمَّارِ مَوْلَى عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ،قَالَ: دَخَلْتُ عَلَى أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ)،فَقُلْتُ لَهُ:جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ يَا بْنَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ،إِنِّي وَجَدْتُ فِي كُتُبِ أَبِي أَنَّ عَلِيّاً(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ)قَالَ لِأَبِي مِيثَمٍ:«أَحْبِبْ حَبِيبَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ إِنْ كَانَ فَاسِقاً زَانِياً،وَ أَبْغِضْ مُبْغِضَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ إِنْ كَانَ صَوَّاماً قَوَّاماً،فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ(صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ)وَ هُوَ يَقُولُ: إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَ عَمِلُوا الصّٰالِحٰاتِ أُولٰئِكَ هُمْ خَيْرُ الْبَرِيَّةِ
99-/11805 Sheikh (al-Tusi) in (his Amali), said: It was recited to Abu al-Qasim ‘Ali ibn Shibl ibn Asad al-Wakil while I was listening, in his house in Baghdad, in al-Rabad, at Bab Muhawwal, in the month of Safar in the year 410 AH:
Zafar ibn Humdun ibn Ahmad ibn Shaddad al-Badarai Abu Mansur narrated to us in Badaraya in the month of Rabi‘ al-Akhir in the year 347 AH, who said:
Ibrahim ibn Ishaq al-Nahawandi al-Ahmari narrated to us in his house in Farisan, in Rustaq al-Asfidhan, in the region of Nahawand, in the month of Ramadan in the year 295 AH, who said:
‘Abdullah ibn Hammad al-Ansari narrated to us, from ‘Amr ibn Shimr, from Ya‘qub ibn Mitham al-Tammar, the freed slave of ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn, who said:
I entered upon Abu Ja‘far (peace be upon him) and said to him: "May I be your ransom, O son of the Messenger of Allah! I found in my father's books that ‘Ali (peace be upon him) said to Abu Mitham:
‘Love the beloved of the family of Muhammad even if he is a sinful adulterer, and hate the enemy of the family of Muhammad even if he is a fasting, praying individual. For I heard the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family) say:
"Surely those who believe and do good, they are the best of men." (Surah Al-Bayyina 98:7)"

ثُمَّ الْتَفَتَ إِلَيَّ،وَ قَالَ:هُمْ وَ اللَّهِ[أَنْتَ]وَ شِيعَتُكَ يَا عَلِيُّ،وَ مِيعَادُكَ وَ مِيعَادُهُمُ الْحَوْضُ غَداً، غُرّاً مُحَجَّلِينَ مُتَوَّجِينَ».
فَقَالَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ:«هَكَذَا هُوَ عِيَانٌ فِي كِتَابِ عَلِيٍّ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ)».
99-/11805 (continuation)
Then he (the Prophet) turned to me and said:
"By Allah, they are you and your Shia, O ‘Ali! Your appointed meeting place and theirs is at the Hawd (the Pool) tomorrow, with shining faces, bright limbs, and crowned."
Abu Ja‘far (peace be upon him) said:
"This is exactly how it is explicitly recorded in the Book of ‘Ali (peace be upon him).”
99-/11806 _9- وَ عَنْهُ،قَالَ:أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عُمَرَ عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مَهْدِيٍّ،قَالَ:أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَعِيدِ بْنِ عُقْدَةَ،قَالَ:حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ الْقَطَوَانِيُّ،قَالَ:حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ،قَالَ:حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ،عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ،عَنْ جَابِرِ ابْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ،قَالَ: كُنَّا عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ(صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ)فَأَقْبَلَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ)،فَقَالَ[النَّبِيُّ(صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ)]:«قَدْ أَتَاكُمْ أَخِي»ثُمَّ الْتَفَتَ إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ فَضَرَبَهَا بِيَدِهِ،ثُمَّ قَالَ:«وَ الَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ،إِنَّ هَذَا وَ شِيعَتَهُ لَهُمُ الْفَائِزُونَ[يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ]»ثُمَّ قَالَ:«إِنَّهُ أَوَّلُكُمْ إِيمَاناً مَعِي،وَ أَوْفَاكُمْ بِعَهْدِ اللَّهِ،وَ أَقْوَمُكُمْ بِأَمْرِ اللَّهِ،وَ أَعْدَلُكُمْ فِي الرَّعِيَّةِ،وَ أَقْسَمُكُمْ بِالسَّوِيَّةِ،وَ أَعْظَمُكُمْ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ مَزِيَّةً»قَالَ:فَنَزَلَتْ إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَ عَمِلُوا الصّٰالِحٰاتِ أُولٰئِكَ هُمْ خَيْرُ الْبَرِيَّةِ قَالَ:فَكَانَ أَصْحَابُ مُحَمَّدٍ(صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ)إِذَا أَقْبَلَ عَلِيٌّ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ)قَالُوا:قَدْ جَاءَ خَيْرُ الْبَرِيَّةِ.
99-/11806 And from him, he said: Abu ‘Umar ‘Abd al-Wahid ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Abdillah ibn Muhammad ibn Mahdi informed us, who said: Abu al-‘Abbas Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Sa‘id ibn ‘Uqda informed us, who said: Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn al-Hasan al-Qatwani narrated to us, who said: Ibrahim ibn Anas al-Ansari narrated to us, who said: Ibrahim ibn Ja‘far ibn ‘Abdillah ibn Muhammad ibn Salama narrated to us, from Abu al-Zubayr, from Jabir ibn ‘Abdillah, who said:
We were with the Prophet (may Allah bless him and his family) when ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him) approached. The Prophet (may Allah bless him and his family) said: "Here comes my brother."
Then he turned toward the Ka‘bah, struck it with his hand, and said: "By Him in whose hand is my soul, indeed, this man and his Shia are the truly successful ones [on the Day of Judgment]."
Then he said: "Indeed, he is the first of you in faith with me, the most faithful among you in upholding the covenant of Allah, the most upright among you in fulfilling the command of Allah, the most just among you in governing the subjects, the fairest among you in distribution, and the one with the greatest status before Allah."
Then the verse was revealed:
"Surely those who believe and do good, they are the best of men." (Surah Al-Bayyina 98:7)
Jabir said: "From that day on, whenever the companions of Muhammad (may Allah bless him and his family) saw ‘Ali (peace be upon him), they would say: ‘The best of men has come.’"
99-/11807 _10- وَ عَنْهُ،قَالَ:أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدُو،الْمَعْرُوفُ بِابْنِ الْحَاشِرِ،قَالَ:أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ الْقُرَشِيُّ،قَالَ:أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ فَضَّالٍ،قَالَ:أَخْبَرَنَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ،قَالَ:حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ رِزْقٍ،عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ الْعَلاَءِ الرَّازِيِّ،عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ)،قَالَ: «دَخَلَ عَلِيٌّ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ)عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ(صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ)،وَ هُوَ فِي بَيْتِ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ،فَلَمَّا رَآهُ،قَالَ:كَيْفَ أَنْتَ يَا عَلِيُّ إِذَا جُمِعَتِ الْأُمَمُ،وَ وُضِعَتِ الْمَوَازِينُ، وَ بَرَزَ لِعَرْضِ خَلْقِهِ،وَ دُعِيَ النَّاسُ إِلَى مَا لاَ بُدَّ مِنْهُ؟قَالَ:فَدَمَعَتْ عَيْنُ أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ)،فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ(صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ):مَا يُبْكِيكَ يَا عَلِيُّ،تُدْعَى وَ اللَّهِ أَنْتَ وَ شِيعَتُكَ غُرّاً مُحَجَّلِينَ،رِوَاءً مَرْوِيِّينَ،مُبْيَضَّةً وُجُوهُهُمْ، وَ يُدْعَى بِعَدُوِّكَ مُسْوَدَّةً وُجُوهُهُمْ،أَشْقِيَاءَ مُعَذَّبِينَ،أَ مَا سَمِعْتَ إِلَى قَوْلِ اللَّهِ: إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَ عَمِلُوا الصّٰالِحٰاتِ أُولٰئِكَ هُمْ خَيْرُ الْبَرِيَّةِ أَنْتَ وَ شِيعَتُكَ،وَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا وَ كَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا أُولَئِكَ هُمْ شَرُّ الْبَرِيَّةِ،عَدُوُّكَ يَا عَلِيُّ».
صَاحِبُ(الْأَرْبَعِينَ)،وَ هُوَ[الْحَدِيثُ]الثَّامِنُ وَ الْعِشْرُونَ مِنْ أَحَادِيثِ الْأَرْبَعِينَ،قَالَ:أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْحَسَنُ ابْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ الصَّفَّارُ بِقِرَاءَتِي عَلَيْهِ،قَالَ:أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عُمَرَ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ،قَالَ:أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ بْنُ عُقْدَةَ،قَالَ:
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ الْقَطَوَانِيُّ،قَالَ:حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ [1]،عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ،قَالَ:كُنَّا عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ(صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ)،فَأَقْبَلَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ)،فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ:«قَدْ أَتَاكُمْ
99-/11807 And from him, he said: Abu ‘Abdillah Ahmad ibn ‘Abdu, known as Ibn al-Hasher, informed us, who said: Abu al-Hasan ‘Ali ibn Muhammad ibn al-Zubayr al-Qurashi informed us, who said: ‘Ali ibn al-Hasan ibn Faddal informed us, who said: al-‘Abbas ibn ‘Amir informed us, who said: Ahmad ibn Rizq narrated to us, from Yahya ibn al-‘Ala’ al-Razi, from Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him), who said:
‘Ali (peace be upon him) entered upon the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family) while he was in the house of Umm Salama. When he saw him, he said:
"O ‘Ali, how will you be when the nations are gathered, the scales are set, and all creation stands before their reckoning, and the people are called to that which is inevitable?"
Upon hearing this, the eyes of the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) filled with tears. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family) then said:
*"Why do you weep, O ‘Ali? By Allah, you and your Shia will be called with shining faces, bright limbs, fully satiated and well-watered, with radiant faces. But your enemy will be called with darkened faces, wretched and tormented. Have you not heard the saying of Allah:
'Surely those who believe and do good, they are the best of men.' (Surah Al-Bayyina 98:7)
That is you and your Shia. And:
'And those who disbelieve and deny Our signs, they are the worst of men.' (Surah Al-Bayyina 98:6)
That is your enemy, O ‘Ali."*
This narration is from the collection Al-Arba‘in (the Forty Hadiths) and is the twenty-eighth hadith in the book.
Abu ‘Ali al-Hasan ibn ‘Ali ibn al-Hasan al-Saffar narrated to us by my recitation to him, who said: Abu ‘Umar ibn Mahdi informed us, who said: Abu al-‘Abbas ibn ‘Uqda informed us, who said:
Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Qatwani narrated to us, who said: Ibrahim ibn Ja‘far ibn ‘Abdillah ibn Muhammad ibn Muslim [1] narrated to us, from Abu al-Zubayr, from Jabir ibn ‘Abdillah, who said:
We were with the Prophet (may Allah bless him and his family) when ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him) approached. The Prophet said:
"Here comes..." (The narration continues).

"...my brother." Then he turned toward the Ka‘bah, struck it with his hand [1], and narrated similar to what has been previously mentioned from the report of the Sheikh in (his Amali) [2].
99-/11808 _11- ابْنُ الْفَارِسِيِّ فِي(الرَّوْضَةِ):قَالَ الْبَاقِرُ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ):«قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ(صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ)لِعَلِيٍّ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ) مُبْتَدِئاً: إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَ عَمِلُوا الصّٰالِحٰاتِ أُولٰئِكَ هُمْ خَيْرُ الْبَرِيَّةِ هُمْ أَنْتَ وَ شِيعَتُكَ».
99-/11808 Ibn al-Farisi in (al-Rawda): Al-Baqir (peace be upon him) said:
**"The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family) said to ‘Ali (peace be upon him), initiating the conversation:
'Surely those who believe and do good, they are the best of men.' (Surah Al-Bayyina 98:7)
They are you and your Shia."**
99-/11809 _12- ابْنُ شَهْرِ آشُوبَ:عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الْهُذَلِيِّ،عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ: أَنَّ رَجُلاً أَتَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ(صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ)فَقَالَ:
يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ،عَلِّمْنِي شَيْئاً يَنْفَعُنِي اللَّهُ بِهِ.قَالَ:«عَلَيْكَ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ،فَإِنَّهُ يَنْفَعُكَ فِي عَاجِلِ دُنْيَاكَ وَ آخِرَتِكَ»،إِذْ أَقْبَلَ عَلِيٌّ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ)،فَقَالَ:«يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ،فَاطِمَةُ تَدْعُوكَ»قَالَ:«نَعَمْ».فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ:مَنْ هَذَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ؟قَالَ:«هَذَا مِنَ الَّذِينَ أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ فِيهِمْ إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَ عَمِلُوا الصّٰالِحٰاتِ أُولٰئِكَ هُمْ خَيْرُ الْبَرِيَّةِ ».
99-/11809 Ibn Shahr Ashub: from Abu Bakr al-Hudhali, from al-Sha‘bi:
A man came to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, teach me something by which Allah will benefit me."
He said: "Adhere to doing good (ma‘ruf), for it will benefit you in your immediate worldly life and in your Hereafter."
At that moment, ‘Ali (peace be upon him) approached and said: "O Messenger of Allah, Fatima is calling you."
He said: "Yes."
The man then asked: "Who is this, O Messenger of Allah?"
The Prophet replied: **"He is among those about whom Allah revealed:
'Surely those who believe and do good, they are the best of men.' (Surah Al-Bayyina 98:7)"**
99-/11810 _13- ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ وَ أَبُو بَرْزَةَ،وَ ابْنُ شَرَاحِيلَ،وَ الْبَاقِرُ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ)،قَالَ النَّبِيُّ(صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ)لِعَلِيٍّ مُبْتَدِئاً:
« إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَ عَمِلُوا الصّٰالِحٰاتِ أُولٰئِكَ هُمْ خَيْرُ الْبَرِيَّةِ أَنْتَ وَ شِيعَتُكَ،وَ مِيعَادِي وَ مِيعَادُكُمُ الْحَوْضُ إِذَا حُشِرَ النَّاسُ جِئْتَ أَنْتَ وَ شِيعَتُكَ شِبَاعاً مَرْوِيِّينَ،غُرّاً مُحَجَّلِينَ»وَ فِي خَبَرٍ آخَرَ:«أَنْتَ خَيْرُ الْبَرِيَّةِ،وَ شِيعَتُكَ غُرٌّ مُحَجَّلُونَ».
99-/11810 Ibn ‘Abbas, Abu Barzah, Ibn Sharahil, and al-Baqir (peace be upon him) narrated that the Prophet (may Allah bless him and his family) said to ‘Ali, initiating the conversation:
"Surely those who believe and do good, they are the best of men." (Surah Al-Bayyina 98:7)
"You and your Shia. My appointed meeting place and yours is at the Hawd (the Pool). When the people are gathered, you and your Shia will come fully satiated and well-watered, with shining faces and bright limbs."
And in another narration:
"You are the best of men, and your Shia will have shining faces and bright limbs."
99-/11811 _14- أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ الْأَصْفَهَانِيُّ فِي(مَا نَزَلَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ فِي عَلِيٍّ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ)):بِالْإِسْنَادِ،عَنْ شَرِيكِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ،عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ،عَنِ الْحَارِثِ،قَالَ عَلِيٌّ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ): «نَحْنُ أَهْلُ بَيْتٍ لاَ نُقَاسُ بِالنَّاسِ».فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ فَأَتَى ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ،فَأَخْبَرَهُ بِذَلِكَ،فَقَالَ:صَدَقَ عَلِيٌّ،النَّبِيُّ لاَ يُقَاسُ بِالنَّاسِ؟وَ قَدْ نَزَلَ فِي عَلِيٍّ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ) إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَ عَمِلُوا الصّٰالِحٰاتِ أُولٰئِكَ هُمْ خَيْرُ الْبَرِيَّةِ .
99-/11811 Abu Nu‘aym al-Isfahani in (What Was Revealed in the Qur’an About ‘Ali (peace be upon him)) narrated with his chain from Sharik ibn ‘Abdullah, from Abu Ishaq, from al-Harith, who said:
‘Ali (peace be upon him) said: "We are a household that cannot be compared to the people."
A man then went to Ibn ‘Abbas and informed him of this. Ibn ‘Abbas said: **"‘Ali has spoken the truth. Can the Prophet be compared to the people? And indeed, regarding ‘Ali (peace be upon him), Allah revealed:
'Surely those who believe and do good, they are the best of men.' (Surah Al-Bayyina 98:7)"**
99-/11812 _15- أَبُو بَكْرٍ الشِّيرَازِيُّ فِي كِتَابِ(نُزُولِ الْقُرْآنِ فِي شَأْنِ أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ)): أَنَّهُ حَدَّثَ مَالِكُ ابْنُ أَنَسٍ،عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ،عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ،قَالَ: إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا نَزَلَتْ فِي عَلِيٍّ،صَدَّقَ أَوَّلَ النَّاسِ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ(صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ) وَ عَمِلُوا الصّٰالِحٰاتِ تَمَسَّكُوا بِأَدَاءِ الْفَرَائِضِ أُولٰئِكَ هُمْ خَيْرُ الْبَرِيَّةِ يَعْنِي عَلِيّاً أَفْضَلُ الْخَلِيقةِ بَعْدَ النَّبِيِّ(صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ)،إِلَى آخِرِ السُّورَةِ.
99-/11812 Abu Bakr al-Shirazi in (The Revelation of the Qur’an Regarding the Status of the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him)) narrated that Malik ibn Anas reported from Humayd, from Anas ibn Malik, who said:
"The verse 'Surely those who believe…' was revealed concerning ‘Ali. He was the first of the people to believe in the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family).
And 'and do good' refers to those who upheld the obligations.
'They are the best of men' means ‘Ali is the most excellent of creation after the Prophet (may Allah bless him and his family), up to the end of the Surah."**
99-/11813 _16- الْأَعْمَشُ،عَنْ عَطِيَّةَ،عَنِ الْخُدْرِيِّ،وَ رَوَى الْخَطِيبُ الْخُوَارِزْمِيُّ،عَنْ جَابِرٍ،أَنَّهُ لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةِ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ(صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ): «عَلِيٌّ خَيْرُ الْبَرِيَّةِ»وَ فِي رِوَايَةِ جَابِرٍ:كَانَ أَصْحَابُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ(صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ)إِذَا أَقْبَلَ عَلِيٌّ
99-/11813 Al-A‘mash, from ‘Atiyyah, from al-Khudri, and al-Khatib al-Khwarizmi narrated from Jabir that when this verse was revealed, the Prophet (may Allah bless him and his family) said:
"‘Ali is the best of men."
And in Jabir’s narration:
"The companions of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family), whenever ‘Ali approached..." (The narration continues).

99-/11814 _17- وَ مِنْ طَرِيقِ الْمُخَالِفِينَ:مُوَفَّقُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ فِي كِتَابِ(الْمَنَاقِبِ)،قَالَ:أَخْبَرَنِي سَيِّدُ الْحُفَّاظِ أَبُو مَنْصُورٍ شَهْرَدَارُ بْنُ شِيرَوَيْهِ الدَّيْلَمِيُّ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ مِنْ هَمَذَانَ،حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْفَتْحِ عُبْدُوسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُبْدُوسٍ الْهَمَذَانِيُّ إِجَازَةً،عَنِ الشَّرِيفِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ الْمُفَضَّلِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ طَاهِرٍ الْجَعْفَرِيِّ(رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ)بِدَارِهِ بِأَصْبَهَانَ فِي سِكَّةِ الْخَوَارِجِ،وَ أَخْبَرَنَا الشَّيْخُ الْحَافِظُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُوسَى بْنِ مَرْدَوَيْهِ بْنِ فَوْرَكَ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ،حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ ابْنِ السَّرِيِّ،أَخْبَرَنَا الْمُنْذِرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْذِرِ،حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي،حَدَّثَنِي عَمِّي الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ،عَنْ أَبِيهِ،عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ زِيَادٍ الْبَزَّازِ،عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُهَاجِرٍ،حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ شَرَاحِيلَ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ،كَاتِبُ عَلِيٍّ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ)،قَالَ:
سَمِعْتُ عَلِيّاً(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ)يَقُولُ:«حَدَّثَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ(صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ)وَ أَنَا مُسْنِدُهُ إِلَى صَدْرِي،فَقَالَ: أَيْ عَلِيُّ،أَ لَمْ تَسْمَعْ قَوْلَ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى: إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَ عَمِلُوا الصّٰالِحٰاتِ أُولٰئِكَ هُمْ خَيْرُ الْبَرِيَّةِ ؟أَنْتَ وَ شِيعَتُكَ،وَ مَوْعِدِي وَ مَوْعِدُكُمُ الْحَوْضُ،إِذَا جَثَتِ الْأُمَمُ لِلْحِسَابِ تُدْعَوْنَ غُرّاً مُحَجَّلِينَ».
99-/11814 And from the path of the opponents: Muwaffaq ibn Ahmad in (Kitab al-Manaqib) said:
Sayyid al-Huffaz Abu Mansur Shahrdar ibn Shirawayh al-Daylami informed me in a letter from Hamadhan, narrating from Abu al-Fath ‘Abdus ibn ‘Abdillah ibn ‘Abdus al-Hamadhani by authorization, from al-Sharif Abu Talib al-Mufaddal ibn Muhammad ibn Tahir al-Ja‘fari (may Allah be pleased with him) at his residence in Isfahan in Sikkat al-Khawarij.
And Sheikh al-Hafiz Abu Bakr Ahmad ibn Musa ibn Mardawayh ibn Fawrak al-Isfahani informed us, who said:
Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn al-Sari narrated to us, who said: al-Mundhir ibn Muhammad ibn al-Mundhir informed us, who said: My father narrated to me, from my uncle al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id, from his father, from Isma‘il ibn Ziyad al-Bazzaz, from Ibrahim ibn Muhajir, who said:
Yazid ibn Sharahil al-Ansari, the scribe of ‘Ali (peace be upon him), narrated that he heard ‘Ali (peace be upon him) say:
**"The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family) told me while I was leaning on his chest, and he said:
'O ‘Ali, have you not heard the saying of Allah, the Most High:
"Surely those who believe and do good, they are the best of men." (Surah Al-Bayyina 98:7)
That is you and your Shia. My appointed meeting place and yours is at the Hawd (the Pool), when the nations kneel for reckoning. You will be called forth with shining faces and bright limbs.’"**
/11815 _18-و روى الحبري،يرفعه إلى ابن عبّاس،قال: إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَ عَمِلُوا الصّٰالِحٰاتِ أُولٰئِكَ هُمْ خَيْرُ الْبَرِيَّةِ في علي(عليه السلام)و شيعته.
99-/11815 Al-Habari narrated, with an elevated chain to Ibn ‘Abbas, who said:
"Surely those who believe and do good, they are the best of men." (Surah Al-Bayyina 98:7) was revealed concerning ‘Ali (peace be upon him) and his Shia.
/11816 _19-علي بن إبراهيم،في معنى السورة: لَمْ يَكُنِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتٰابِ وَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ يعني قريشا مُنْفَكِّينَ قال:هم في كفرهم حتّى تأتيهم البينة.
99-/11816 ‘Ali ibn Ibrahim, regarding the meaning of the Surah:
"Those who disbelieve from among the People of the Book and the polytheists..." (Surah Al-Bayyina 98:1)
He said: "It refers to Quraysh."
"Were not to be freed..."
He said: "They remained in their disbelief until the clear evidence came to them."
99-/11817 _20- ثُمَّ قَالَ:وَ فِي رِوَايَةِ أَبِي الْجَارُودِ،عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ)،قَالَ: «الْبَيِّنَةُ:مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ(صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ)».
99-/11817 Then he said: And in the narration of Abu al-Jarud, from Abu Ja‘far (peace be upon him), who said:
"The Bayyinah (the clear evidence) is Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family)."
/11818 _21-[و قال]علي بن إبراهيم،[في قوله]: وَ مٰا تَفَرَّقَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتٰابَ إِلاّٰ مِنْ بَعْدِ مٰا جٰاءَتْهُمُ الْبَيِّنَةُ ،قال:لما جاءهم رسول اللّه(صلّى اللّه عليه و آله)بالقرآن خالفوه و تفرقوا بعده،قوله: حُنَفٰاءَ ،قال:طاهرين، قوله: وَ ذٰلِكَ دِينُ الْقَيِّمَةِ ،أي دين قيم،قوله: إِنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتٰابِ وَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ فِي نٰارِ جَهَنَّمَ خٰالِدِينَ قال:أنزل عليهم القرآن فارتدوا و كفروا و عصوا أمير المؤمنين(عليه السلام) أُولٰئِكَ هُمْ شَرُّ الْبَرِيَّةِ ، قوله: إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَ عَمِلُوا الصّٰالِحٰاتِ أُولٰئِكَ هُمْ خَيْرُ الْبَرِيَّةِ ،قال:نزلت في آل الرسول(عليهم السلام).
99-/11818 [And ‘Ali ibn Ibrahim said] regarding His saying:
"And those who were given the Book did not become divided except after clear evidence had come to them." (Surah Al-Bayyina 98:4)
He said: "When the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family) brought them the Qur'an, they opposed him and became divided after him."
Regarding His saying: "Hunafa’," he said: "It means pure."
Regarding His saying: "And that is the right religion," he said: "It means a steadfast religion."
Regarding His saying: "Surely those who disbelieve from among the People of the Book and the polytheists shall be in the fire of Hell, abiding therein," (Surah Al-Bayyina 98:6)
He said: "The Qur'an was revealed to them, but they apostatized, disbelieved, and disobeyed the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him)."
"They are the worst of men."
Regarding His saying: "Surely those who believe and do good, they are the best of men," (Surah Al-Bayyina 98:7)
He said: "It was revealed concerning the family of the Messenger (peace be upon them)."
/11819 _22-ثم قال عليّ بن إبراهيم:حدّثنا سعيد بن محمّد،قال:حدّثنا بكر بن سهل،قال:حدّثنا عبد الغني بن سعيد،عن موسى بن عبد الرحمن،عن مقاتل بن سليمان،عن الضحّاك بن مزاحم،عن ابن عبّاس،
99-/11819 Then ‘Ali ibn Ibrahim said:
Sa‘id ibn Muhammad narrated to us, who said: Bakr ibn Sahl narrated to us, who said: ‘Abd al-Ghani ibn Sa‘id narrated to us, from Musa ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman, from Muqatil ibn Sulayman, from al-Dahhak ibn Muzahim, from Ibn ‘Abbas... (The narration continues).

في قوله: أُولٰئِكَ هُمْ خَيْرُ الْبَرِيَّةِ يريد خير الخلق جَزٰاؤُهُمْ عِنْدَ رَبِّهِمْ جَنّٰاتُ عَدْنٍ تَجْرِي مِنْ تَحْتِهَا الْأَنْهٰارُ خٰالِدِينَ فِيهٰا أَبَداً لا يصف الواصفون خير ما فيها رَضِيَ اللّٰهُ عَنْهُمْ يريد رضي أعمالهم وَ رَضُوا عَنْهُ رضوا بثواب اللّه ذٰلِكَ لِمَنْ خَشِيَ رَبَّهُ يريد لمن خاف و تناهى عن معاصي اللّه.
99-/11819 (continuation)
Regarding His saying: "They are the best of men," (Surah Al-Bayyina 98:7)
He said: "It means the best of creation."
"Their reward with their Lord is gardens of perpetuity beneath which rivers flow, abiding therein forever." (Surah Al-Bayyina 98:8)
He said: "No describer can fully depict the best of what is in them."
"Allah is well pleased with them,"
He said: "It means He has accepted their deeds."
"And they are well pleased with Him,"
He said: "They are pleased with the reward of Allah."
"That is for him who fears his Lord,"
He said: "It is for the one who fears and refrains from disobeying Allah."
99-/11820 _23- أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ،عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ،عَنْ بَعْضِ الْكُوفِيِّينَ،عَنْ عَنْبَسَةَ،عَنْ جَابِرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ) ،فِي قَوْلِهِ تَعَالَى: إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَ عَمِلُوا الصّٰالِحٰاتِ أُولٰئِكَ هُمْ خَيْرُ الْبَرِيَّةِ ،قَالَ:
«هُمْ شِيعَتُنَا أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ».
99-/11820 Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid, from Ya‘qub ibn Yazid, from some Kufans, from ‘Anbasa, from Jabir, from Abu Ja‘far (peace be upon him), regarding the saying of Allah, the Most High:
"Surely those who believe and do good, they are the best of men." (Surah Al-Bayyina 98:7)
He said: "They are our Shia, the followers of the Ahl al-Bayt."
99-/11821 _24- الطَّبْرِسِيُّ،قَالَ:فِي كِتَابِ(شَوَاهِدِ التَّنْزِيلِ)لِلْحَاكِمِ أَبِي الْقَاسِمِ الْحَسْكَانِيِّ،قَالَ:أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْحَافِظُ،بِالْإِسْنَادِ الْمَرْفُوعِ إِلَى يَزِيدَ بْنِ شَرَاحِيلَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ،كَاتِبِ عَلِيٍّ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ)،قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَلِيّاً(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ) يَقُولُ: «قُبِضَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ(صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ)وَ أَنَا مُسْنِدُهُ إِلَى صَدْرِي،فَقَالَ:يَا عَلِيُّ،أَ لَمْ تَسْمَعْ قَوْلَ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى: إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَ عَمِلُوا الصّٰالِحٰاتِ أُولٰئِكَ هُمْ خَيْرُ الْبَرِيَّةِ ؟هُمْ شِيعَتُكَ،وَ مَوْعِدِي وَ مَوْعِدُكُمُ الْحَوْضُ إِذَا اجْتَمَعَ الْأُمَمُ لِلْحِسَابِ تُدْعَوْنَ غُرّاً مُحَجَّلِينَ».
99-/11821 Al-Tabrisi said in (Shawahid al-Tanzil) by al-Hakim Abu al-Qasim al-Hasakani:
Abu ‘Abdillah al-Hafiz narrated to us with an elevated chain to Yazid ibn Sharahil al-Ansari, the scribe of ‘Ali (peace be upon him), who said:
I heard ‘Ali (peace be upon him) say:
**"The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family) passed away while I was supporting him against my chest, and he said:
'O ‘Ali, have you not heard the saying of Allah, the Most High:
"Surely those who believe and do good, they are the best of men." (Surah Al-Bayyina 98:7)
They are your Shia. My appointed meeting place and yours is at the Hawd (the Pool), when the nations gather for reckoning. You will be called forth with shining faces and bright limbs.’"**
/11822 _25-و روى الطبرسيّ،رفعه:عن مقاتل بن سليمان،عن الضحّاك،عن ابن عبّاس،في قوله: هُمْ خَيْرُ الْبَرِيَّةِ ،قال:نزلت في علي و أهل بيته(عليهم السلام).
99-/11822 Al-Tabrisi also narrated with an elevated chain: from Muqatil ibn Sulayman, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn ‘Abbas, regarding His saying:
"They are the best of men." (Surah Al-Bayyina 98:7)
He said: "It was revealed concerning ‘Ali and his family (peace be upon them)."
