Dāwūd (a.s.) Was a Lamenter, and Imam Husain (a.s.) Also Was a Lamenter

داود نوحه گر بود و حسين نيز نوحه گر

داود (عليه‌السلام) اواب بود، يعني بسيار نوحه مي‌كرد و انابه مي‌نمود، و گاهي بالاي منبر نوحه سر مي‌كرد، و مردم جمع مي‌شدند، و با او هم ناله مي‌شدند تا به حدي كه جماعتي هلاك مي‌شدند از نوحه و رقت صوت او [1439] و حسين (عليه‌السلام) صداي استغاثه‌اش بلند گرديد كه اي قوم مرا گناهي نيست [1440] ، پس جمعي جان خود را در راه او دادند و مرغان و وحشيان و دوستان تا روز قيامت بر او نوحه نمودند و مي‌نمايند.

Dāwūd (a.s.) was an awwāb, meaning that he would weep and turn back to Allah frequently.

At times he would ascend the pulpit and recite lamentations, and people would gather around him and join him in weeping.

The lamentation and tenderness of his voice would affect them to such an extent that a number of people would perish from grief and emotional overwhelm. [1439]

And Imam Husain (a.s.) raised his voice in appeal, saying:

“O people! I have committed no crime against you.” [1440]

Then a group gave their lives in his path.

And the birds, the wild animals, and his lovers lamented for him, and continue to lament for him until the Day of Resurrection.
