Qur’an 17:28 (al-Isra 17:28) — M. H. Shakir:
And if you turn away from them to seek mercy from your Lord, which you hope for, then speak to them a gentle word.
99-/_1- (al-Manaqib 3:341): Ibn Shahr Ashub, quoting from the book of al-Shirazi: When Fatimah (peace be upon her) mentioned her circumstances and asked for a maidservant, the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and his family) wept and said: “O Fatimah, by Him Who sent me with the truth, in the mosque are four hundred men who have neither food nor clothing. Were it not for one thing I fear, I would give you what you asked for: O Fatimah, I do not want your reward to be cut off by being turned over to a maidservant, and I fear that Ali son of Abu Talib will dispute against you on the Day of Resurrection before Allah, Mighty and Majestic, when he seeks his right from you.” Then he taught her the Prayer of Tasbih. The Commander of the Faithful said: “You went to the Messenger of Allah seeking the world, but Allah gave us the reward of the Hereafter.”
Abu Hurayrah said: When the Messenger of Allah left Fatimah’s presence, Allah revealed to His Messenger: “And if you turn away from them to seek mercy from your Lord, which you hope for, then speak to them a gentle word,” meaning, turn away from your relatives and your daughter Fatimah while seeking—that is, requesting—mercy from your Lord, meaning provision from your Lord which you hope for; “then speak to them a gentle word,” meaning a good word. When this verse was revealed, the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and his family) sent her a maidservant to serve her, and he named her Fidda.
Qur’an 17:56 (al-Isra 17:56) — M. H. Shakir:
Say: Call on those whom you assert besides Him; so they shall not control the removal of distress from you nor (its) transference.

99-/_1- (al-Kafi 2:1/410): Muhammad ibn Ya‘qub, from Muhammad ibn Yahya, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa, from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Najran and Ibn Faddal, from some of our companions, from Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him), said: He used to say at the time of illness: “O Allah, You reproached peoples and said: ‘Say: Call on those whom you assert besides Him; so they shall not control the removal of distress from you nor its transference.’ So, O You besides Whom none controls the removal of my distress nor its transference from me—send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, remove my distress, and transfer it to the one who calls upon another god along with You; there is no god other than You.”

_2 -al-Tabrasi: from Ibn ‘Abbas and al-Hasan, regarding His saying, “Call on those whom you assert besides Him,” the ones meant by “besides Him” are the angels, and the Messiah, and ‘Uzayr.
Qur’an 17:86 (al-Isra 17:86) — M. H. Shakir:
And if We please We should certainly take away that which We have revealed to you, then you would not find for it any protector against Us.
99-/_3- (al-Durr al-Manthūr 5:334): Al-Suyuti, in al-Durr al-Manthūr, transmitting up to Ibn ‘Abbas, that he said: The delegation of Yemen came to the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and his family) and said, “You who refuse the curse.” The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and his family) said: “Glory be to Allah! This is said to a king, and I am not a king; I am Muhammad son of ‘Abd Allah.” They said, “We will not call you by your name.” He (Allah bless him and his family) said: “Then I am Abu’l-Qasim.”
They said, “O Abu’l-Qasim, we have concealed something for you.” He said: “Glory be to Allah! This is only done with a soothsayer, and the soothsayer, the one who seeks soothsaying, and soothsaying are in the Fire.”
One of them said to him, “Who bears witness for you that you are the Messenger of Allah?” He stretched his hand to a handful of pebbles, took them, and said: “These bear witness that I am the Messenger of Allah.” They glorified in his hand and said: “We bear witness that you are the Messenger of Allah.” They said to him, “Recite to us some of what has been sent down to you.” So he recited: “By those who set the ranks in ranks…” until he reached His saying, “so there follows it a piercing flame” [1]. He was motionless; not a vein in him throbbed; and his tears indeed preceded him to his beard. They said to him, “We see you weeping! Do you weep from fear of the One Who sent you?” He said: “Rather, I weep from fear of the One Who sent me. He has sent me upon a path like the edge of a sword; if I deviate from it, I perish.” Then he recited: “And if We please We should certainly take away that which We have revealed to you; then you would not find for it any protector against Us.”
