Al-Hajj, verse 37

“... the earth.” So eat of them and feed the contented petitioner (al-qāni‘) and the passerby (al-mu‘tar). He said: “Al-qāni‘ is the one who is pleased with what you give him, does not resent, does not scowl, and whose cheek does not froth with anger; and al-mu‘tar is the one who passes by you so that you may feed him.”

99-/7344 _8- And from him, with this chain, from ‘Ali b. Mahziyār, from al-Husayn b. Sa‘īd, from Safwān, from Sayf the date-seller, who said: Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him) said: “Sa‘d b. ‘Abd al-Malik came for Hajj, and he met my father (peace be upon him). He said: ‘I have driven a sacrificial animal; what should I do?’ He said: ‘Feed your family a third, feed the contented petitioner (al-qāni‘) a third, and feed the poor (al-miskīn) a third.’ I said: ‘Is the miskīn the one who begs?’ He said: ‘Yes. And the qāni‘ is the one who is content with what you send to him of a piece (of meat) or more; and the mu‘tar is the one who comes to you without asking.’”

/7345 _9-

Quran 22:37 (M. H. Shakir): There does not reach Allah their flesh nor their blood, but to Him is acceptable the guarding (against evil) on your part; thus has He made them subservient to you, that you may magnify Allah for guiding you aright; and give good news to those who do good (to others).

/7346 _1-

/7346 _1- ‘Ali b. Ibrāhīm: “It means that what one offers to draw near to Allah does not reach Him—even if he slaughters it—if he does not have taqwā of Allah; indeed, Allah accepts only from the Godwary.”

Quran 2:203 (M. H. Shakir): And remember Allah during the appointed days; then whoever hastens off in two days, there is no sin on him, and whoever remains behind, there is no sin on him, for him who guards against evil; and be careful of (your duty to) Allah, and know that you shall be gathered together to Him.

99-/7349 _3-

99-/7349 _3- And from him: from ‘Ali b. Ibrāhīm, from his father, from Hammad b. ‘Īsā, from Harīz, from Muhammad b. Muslim, who said: I asked Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him) about the saying of Allah, Mighty and Majestic: “And remember Allah during the appointed days.” He said: “The takbīr in the Days of Tashrīq is from the Zuhr prayer on the Day of Sacrifice until the Fajr prayer on the third day; and in the towns it is for ten prayers. When (the pilgrim) departs after the first (nafr), the people of the towns stop; and whoever remains at Minā and prays there Zuhr and ‘Asr, let him continue the takbīr.”

Quran 22:38 (M. H. Shakir): Surely Allah will defend those who believe; surely Allah does not love anyone who is unfaithful, ungrateful.

99-/7350 _1-

99-/7350 _1- Muhammad b. al-‘Abbās said: It was narrated to us by Muhammad b. al-Hasan b. ‘Alī, who said: My father narrated to me, from his father, from Ibn Abī ‘Umayr, from Mansūr b. Yūnus, from Ishāq b. ‘Ammār, who said: I asked Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him) about the saying of Allah, Mighty and Majestic: “Surely Allah will defend those who believe.” He said: “We are those who believe, and Allah defends us against what our Shī‘a divulge about us.”

Quran 22:39-40 (M. H. Shakir): Permission (to fight) is given to those upon whom war is made because they are oppressed, and most surely Allah is well able to assist them; those who have been expelled from their homes without a just cause except that they say: Our Lord is Allah. And had there not been Allah’s repelling some people by others, certainly there would have been pulled down cloisters and churches and synagogues and mosques in which Allah’s name is much remembered; and surely Allah will help him who helps His cause; most surely Allah is Strong, Mighty.
