Al-Anbiya Ayah 91-94

99-/— And the report is long; we have mentioned it in full under His saying: “Or like him who passed by a town, and it had fallen down upon its roofs,” from Surah al-Baqarah.

99-/7194 (6) — Ibn Shahr Āshūb: from al-Hasan ibn ‘Alī (peace be upon them both), in the report of his father’s death: “Indeed, his soul—meaning the soul of his father ‘Alī ibn Abī Ṭālib (peace be upon him)—was taken up on the night in which the soul of Yaḥyā ibn Zakarīyā (peace be upon him) was taken up.”

99-/7195 (7) — ‘Alī ibn Ibrāhīm said regarding His saying, “They call on Us in longing and in fear”: in a state of longing and fearing.

99-/7196 (8) — Muḥammad ibn al-‘Abbās said: Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn Mūsā al-Nawfalī narrated to us, with his isnād, from ‘Alī ibn Dāwūd; he said: A man from the descendants of Rabī‘a ibn ‘Abd Manāf narrated to me that when ‘Alī (peace be upon him) went forth to duel ‘Amr, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family) raised his hands and then said: “O Allah, You took from me ‘Ubayda ibn al-Ḥārith on the Day of Badr, and You took from me Ḥamza on the Day of Uḥud, and this is ‘Alī, so do not leave me alone; and You are the best of inheritors.”

The saying of the Exalted:

[Qur’an 21:91–94]

And she who guarded her chastity, so We breathed into her of Our spirit and made her and her son a sign for the nations. Surely this your community is a single community, and I am your Lord, therefore serve Me. And they broke their affair among them; to Us shall all return. Therefore whoever shall do of good deeds and he is a believer, there shall be no denying of his exertion, and surely We will write it down for him. (M. H. Shakir)

99-/7197 (1) — ‘Alī ibn Ibrāhīm, regarding His saying, “And she who guarded her chastity,” said: [It is] Maryam—no human ever looked upon her. He said regarding His saying, “So We breathed into her of Our spirit” [2]: a created breath; that is, of Our command. He said regarding His saying, “So whoever does good deeds and is a believer, there shall be no denying of his exertion”: that is, his striving is not nullified.

The saying of the Exalted:

[Qur’an 21:95]

And it is forbidden to a town which We destroyed that they shall not return. (M. H. Shakir)

99-/7198 (2) — ‘Alī ibn Ibrāhīm said: My father narrated to me, from Ibn Abī ‘Umayr, from Ibn Sinān, from Abū Baṣīr and Muḥammad ibn Muslim, from Abū ‘Abd Allāh and Abū Ja‘far (peace be upon them), who said: Every town whose people Allah destroyed with punishment—they do not return in the Raj‘a. So this verse is among the greatest proofs for the Raj‘a, for none of the people of Islam denies that all people return to the Resurrection, those who perished and those who did not perish. Thus His saying “they do not return” means in the Raj‘a; as for to the Resurrection, they shall return until they enter the Fire.
