In Mount Sinai

In Mount Sinai

The fourteenth gathering took place repeatedly on Mount Sinai (Ṭūr Sīnā), where the speaker was Allah and the listener was Mūsā Kalīmullāh (a.s.).

Among these narrations is the report that a man from Banī Isrāʾīl saw Mūsā (a.s.) hurrying along. His face had turned yellow, his body was trembling, and his eyes appeared sunken. From this condition he realized that Mūsā (a.s.) was going for intimate conversation with Allah.

The man said:

“O Prophet of Allah, I have committed a great sin. I request that you ask Allah to forgive me and pardon me.”

When Mūsā (a.s.) reached the place of divine conversation, he said:

“My Lord, You know before I speak. Such-and-such servant of Yours has committed a sin and seeks forgiveness.”

The Divine address came:

“I forgive everyone who seeks forgiveness from Me, except the killer of Imam Husain (a.s.).”

Mūsā (a.s.) asked:

“Who is Imam Husain (a.s.)?”

The reply came:

“He is the one whose mention previously passed before you on the side of the Mount.”

Mūsā (a.s.) asked:

“Who will kill him?”

Allah said:

“He will be killed by a rebellious and tyrannical group who will consider themselves to be from the nation of his grandfather. They will kill him in the land of Karbalāʾ.

His horse will run away, neighing and crying out:

‘Alas for a nation that kills the son of its Prophet!’

Then they will leave him upon the earth without washing and without a shroud. They will plunder his belongings, take his womenfolk from city to city, kill his companions, and place their heads upon spears and carry them through the lands.

O Mūsā, the children of that Prophet will perish from thirst, and their elders will remain beneath the burning sun until the skin of their bodies shrivels together.”

Then Mūsā (a.s.) wept.

The Divine address came:

“O Mūsā, know that whoever weeps, causes others to weep, or makes himself resemble one who is weeping for him, I shall make his body forbidden upon the Fire.” [617]

The author says:

Blessed are those people who remained firm upon faith and were able to speak directly with Kalīmullāh, presenting their needs through him before the Divine Presence and seeking forgiveness through him.

But, praise be to Allah, we too have our Kalīmullāh, who possesses the white hand (yad bayḍā), the staff, and all the other signs. He continually stands in intimate conversation at the right side of the Throne, seeking forgiveness for us even without our asking.

However, our Kalīm is not yellow-faced, nor are his limbs trembling. Rather, his color is red, and his limbs are wounded and torn apart.
