99-/6147 - The Shaykh, in his Amali, said: Abu Muhammad al-Hasan ibn Muhammad ibn Yahya al-Fahham in Surr Man Ra’a informed us, who said: Abu al-Hasan Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn ‘Ubayd Allah ibn al-Mansur narrated to me, who said: Imam ‘Ali ibn Muhammad narrated to me, who said: My father Muhammad ibn ‘Ali narrated to me, who said: My father ‘Ali ibn Musa narrated to me, who said: My father Musa ibn Ja‘far (peace be upon them) narrated, who said: Our master al-Sadiq (peace be upon him), regarding His saying, “So We will most certainly make him live a good life,” said: “Contentment.”
Qur’an 16:98-100 (M. H. Shakir): So when you recite the Quran, seek refuge with Allah from the accursed Shaitan. Surely he has no authority over those who believe and rely on their Lord. His authority is only over those who befriend him and those who associate others with Him.
99-/6148
99-/6148 - ‘Ali ibn Ibrahim said: “Al-rajim (the accursed) is the vilest of the devils.” I said to him: “Why was he called rajim?” He said: “Because he is stoned.” And a musnad report has already preceded regarding the meaning of “al-rajim,” in His saying: “And I seek refuge for her and her offspring with Thee from the accursed Shaitan,” from Surat Al ‘Imran [1].
99-/6149
99-/6149 - Ibn Babawayh said: Abu Ahmad Hani’ ibn Muhammad ibn Mahmud al-‘Abdi narrated to us, who said: My father Muhammad ibn Mahmud narrated to us, with his chain, raising it to Musa ibn Ja‘far (peace be upon him), in the narration of al-Rashid’s questioning him. He (peace be upon him), in answer to his question, said: “I seek refuge with Allah from the accursed Shaitan. In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful,” then he recited a verse; and the narration is lengthy and has already preceded under His saying: “And those who believed and did not migrate, you have no guardianship of them in anything,” at the end of Surat al-Anfal [2].

/6150 - ‘Ali ibn Ibrahim said, regarding His saying, “Surely he has no authority over those who believe and rely on their Lord”: He has no power to remove them from the wilayah (loyalty to the Imams). As for sins, he reaches them in that as he reaches others.

Surely he has no authority over those who believe and rely on their Lord”: He said: “O Abu Muhammad, by Allah, he is given power over the believer’s body but he is not given power over his religion. He was given power over Ayyub (peace be upon him) so he disfigured his form, yet he was not given power over his religion. And he may be given power over the bodies of some believers, but not over their religion.” I said to him regarding, “His authority is only over those who befriend him and those who associate others with Him”: He said: “Those who associate others with Allah—he is given power over their bodies and over their religions.”

99-/6153 - From Sama‘ah, from Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him), regarding Allah’s saying, “So when you recite the Quran, seek refuge with Allah from the accursed Shaitan.” I said: “How should I say it?” He said: “Say: I seek refuge with Allah, the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing, from the accursed Shaitan.” And he said: “The ‘rajim’ is the vilest of the devils.” I said to him: “Why was he called rajim?” He said: “Because he is stoned.” I said: “Does he escape from it at all?” He said: “No.” I said: “Then how is he called rajim though he has not yet been stoned?” He said: “It is established in (divine) knowledge that he is ‘rajim’.”

I said: “Why was he called rajim?” He said: “Because he is stoned.” I said: “Does anything change when he is stoned?” He said: “No; but it is established in (divine) knowledge that he is ‘rajim’.”

Qur’an 16:101-102 (M. H. Shakir): And when We change (one) communication for (another) communication, and Allah knows best what He reveals, they say: You are only a forger. Nay, most of them do not know. Say: The holy spirit has revealed it from your Lord with the truth, that it may establish those who believe and as a guidance and good news for the Muslims.
99-/6156
99-/6156 - ‘Ali ibn Ibrahim, regarding His saying, “And when We change one verse in place of another—and Allah knows best what He reveals—they say: You are only a forger,” up to His saying, “and as good news for the Muslims,” said: When a verse was abrogated, they said to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his Household): “You are a forger.” So Allah refuted them, saying: Say to them—O Muhammad—“The Holy Spirit has brought it down from your Lord with the truth,” meaning Jibril (peace be upon him), “that it may establish those who believe, and as guidance and good news for the Muslims.”
99-/6157
99-/6157 - And from him, he said: In the narration of Abu al-Jarud from Abu Ja‘far (peace be upon him), regarding His saying, “The Holy Spirit,” he said: “It is Jibril (peace be upon him), and ‘al-qudus’ means ‘the pure’. ‘That it may establish those who believe’—they are the family of Muhammad (peace be upon them), and (it is) guidance and good news for the Muslims.”
99-/6158
99-/6158 - Al-‘Ayyashi: from Muhammad ibn ‘Udhafir the money-changer, from one who informed him, from Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him), who said: “Indeed Allah, blessed and exalted, created the Holy Spirit, and He has not created a creation nearer to Allah than it; yet it is not the most noble of His creation to Him. When He wills a matter, He casts it to it, and it casts it to the stars, so they run with it.”
Qur’an 16:103 (M. H. Shakir): And certainly We know that they say: Only a mortal teaches him. The tongue of him whom they refer to is barbarous, and this is clear Arabic tongue.
