Translation:

- Up to His saying: “Allah best knows what is in their souls; surely then I should be of the unjust” [11:24–31]. Ali ibn Ibrahim said: It means the believers and the disbelievers [1].

And regarding His saying: “And we do not see any who have followed you but those who are the meanest of us at first thought,” he said: It means the poor and needy whom we see at first glance.

Then he said: And His saying: “So the prophets were obscured to you,” means they became confused to you so that you did not recognize them and did not understand them. “O my people! I do not ask you for wealth for it; my reward is only with Allah, and I am not going to drive away those who believe; surely they shall meet their Lord”—meaning the poor who believed in him.

Then he said: And His saying: “And O my people! Who would help me against Allah,” up to His saying: “for those whom your eyes despise,” that is, your eyes fall short regarding them and you disdain them: “Allah will by no means grant them any good; Allah best knows what is in their souls; surely then I should be of the unjust.”

And earlier, under verse [24], a hadith has already been cited regarding His saying: “Then maybe you will give up a part of what is revealed to you,” the verse [2].

Translation (M. H. Shakir):
