99-/6072 Al-ʿAyyāshī: from Saʿīd ibn Yasār, from Abū ʿAbd Allāh (peace be upon him), who said: “Allah commanded Nūḥ (peace be upon him) to carry in the Ark two of every kind. So he carried the male palm [2] and the ʿajwa date [3], and they were a pair. When the water subsided, Allah commanded Nūḥ to plant the habala—which is the vine. Iblīs came to him and prevented him from planting it, but Nūḥ insisted on planting it, while Iblīs refused to let him, saying: ‘It is not for you nor your companions; it is only for me and my companions.’ They disputed as long as Allah willed. Then they reconciled that Nūḥ would assign two-thirds of it to Iblīs and one-third to Nūḥ. And Allah had revealed to His Prophet (may Allah bless him and his family) in His Book what you have recited: ‘And from the fruits of the date-palms and the grapes, you derive therefrom sakar and a goodly provision’; so the Muslims [used to drink] [4] thereby. Then Allah sent down the verse of prohibition—this verse: ‘Surely intoxicants and games of chance and (sacrificing on) stone altars and (divining by) arrows...—to—will you then desist?’ [5] O Saʿīd, this is the verse of prohibition, and it abrogated the other verse.”

“And your Lord revealed to the bee: Make hives in the mountains and in the trees and in what they build. Then eat of all the fruits and walk in the ways of your Lord submissively. There comes forth from within them a beverage of many colors, in which there is healing for men; most surely there is a sign in this for a people who reflect.”

And ‘that which comes forth from their bellies, a beverage of diverse colors’—is the knowledge that comes from us to you.”

99-/6074 _2- Al-ʿAyyāshī: from Masʿadah ibn Ṣadaqah, from Abū ʿAbd Allāh (peace be upon him), regarding His saying: “And your Lord revealed to the bee... up to ‘surely in that is a sign for a people who reflect’”: “The ‘bee’ are the Imāms; the ‘mountains’ are the Arabs; the ‘trees’ are the freed-clients; and ‘what they build’ means the children and the slaves who have not been manumitted, yet who show loyalty to Allah, His Messenger, and the Imāms. And the ‘fruits of different colors’ are the varieties of knowledge that the Imāms teach their Shīʿa: ‘in it is healing for mankind’—that is, in knowledge there is healing for mankind; and the Shīʿa are ‘mankind,’ and as for others, Allah knows best what they are.” He said: “If it were as is claimed—that it is the honey which people eat—then no one afflicted who ate or drank it would fail to be cured, because Allah says: ‘in it is healing for mankind,’ and there is no untruth in Allah’s word. Rather, the healing is in the knowledge of the Qurʾān, as He says: ‘And We reveal of the Qur’an that which is a healing and a mercy to the believers’ [1]—so it is healing and mercy for its people, without doubt or dispute; and its people are the Imāms of guidance, about whom Allah said: ‘Then We made the Book to be inherited by those whom We chose from among Our servants’” [2].

Allah said: ‘In it is healing for mankind.’” He said: “I cannot find it.” He said: “Then what prevents you from milk, from which your flesh grew and your bones became strong?” He said: “It does not agree with me.” So Abū ʿAbd Allāh (peace be upon him) said to him: “Do you want me to command you to drink wine?
Reference: an-Nahl 16:70-72 (M. H. Shakir)
“So that he may not have knowledge of anything after (once) having knowledge (of it); surely Allah is Knowing, Powerful. And Allah has made for you mates from yourselves, and has given you sons and grandsons from your mates, and has given you of the goodly things; is it then in the falsehood that they believe while it is in the favor of Allah that they disbelieve?”
/6085 _3- ʿAlī ibn Ibrāhīm, regarding His saying: “So that he may not have knowledge of anything after having had knowledge”: He said, “When he grows old, he does not know what he had known before.” Then he said regarding His saying: “Allah has favored some of you over others in provision; but those who have been favored will not hand over their provision to those whom their right hands possess so that they would be equal in it”: He said, “It is not permissible for a man to single himself out with something of food to the exclusion of his dependents.” He said regarding His saying: “And Allah has made for you mates from your own selves”: He means Ḥawwāʾ was created from Ādam (peace be upon him). “And grandsons”: He said, “sons-in-law.”
99-/6086 _4- Al-Ṭabrisī: Regarding the meaning of “ḥafadah”: they are a man’s sons-in-law over his daughters. He said: And this is what is narrated from Abī—
