Repelling the Enemy on the Night and Day of ʿĀshūrāʾ.
The Chapter of Repelling Aggression and Aiding the Distressed
Protecting a friend from an enemy and coming to the aid of distressed Muslims are among the noble qualities and praiseworthy virtues.
Imam Husain (a.s.) protected his Ahl al-Bayt (a.s.) and his family from their enemies in every way that was possible. He even said:
“People! Come to me and direct your attack toward me, and leave the women and family alone.” [257]
He went to the aid of seventy-two of his companions whenever they called out to him. Likewise, he went to the aid of twenty-seven members of his Ahl al-Bayt (a.s.).
Indeed, at some times his assistance could bring no benefit to those martyrs, as happened in the case of Qāsim (a.s.), as will be mentioned in its proper place (InshāʾAllāh).
It was regarding this that Imam Husain (a.s.) said:
“It is grievous for your uncle to come to your aid, yet be unable to benefit you.” [258] .
