Translation: Ali ibn Ibrahim said: And in the narration of Abu al-Jarud, from Abu Ja‘far (peace be upon him), regarding His saying, “And a party of the People of the Book say: Believe in that which has been revealed to those who believe in the first part of the day, and disbelieve in the latter part of it, perhaps they will return”: “When the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family) came to Medina while he was praying toward Bayt al-Maqdis, that pleased the Jews. But when Allah turned him away from Bayt al-Maqdis to the Sacred House, the Jews were angered by that, and the change of the qibla occurred at the noonday prayer. So they said: ‘Muhammad prayed the morning prayer facing our qibla; so believe in what has been revealed to Muhammad at the beginning of the day, and disbelieve at its end,’ meaning the qibla when the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family) faced the Sacred Mosque, ‘so that they might return to our qibla.’”
Qur’an 3:72
Translation (M. H. Shakir): And a party of the People of the Book say: Believe in that which has been revealed to those who believe in the first part of the day, and disbelieve in the latter part of it, perhaps they will return.

Translation: His saying, the Exalted: “And among the People of the Book is he who, if you entrust him with a heap of wealth, he will pay it back to you; and among them is he who, if you entrust him with a dinar, he will not pay it back to you unless you keep standing over him; that is because they say: There is no blame on us in respect of the unlearned.” Ali ibn Ibrahim said: The Jews said, “It is lawful for us to take the wealth of the unlettered (al-ummiyyin).” The unlettered are those who do not have a Book. So Allah refuted them, saying: “And they tell a lie against Allah while they know.”
Qur’an 3:75
Translation (M. H. Qur’an 3:77
Translation (M. H. Shakir): (As for) those who take a small price for the covenant of Allah and their own oaths—surely they shall have no portion in the hereafter, and Allah will not speak to them, nor will He look upon them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify them, and they shall have a painful chastisement.

The Arabs say to a nobleman or king: ‘Do not look upon us,’ meaning: you will not grant us any good. Thus is Allah’s ‘looking’ toward His creation.”

Translation (M. H. Shakir): And most surely there is among them a party who distort the Book with their tongue, that you may consider it to be (a part) of the Book, while it is not (a part) of the Book, and they say, It is from Allah, while it is not from Allah; and they forge a lie against Allah whilst they know. • It is not meet for a mortal that Allah should give him the Book and the wisdom and the prophethood, then he should say to men: Be my servants rather than Allah’s; but rather (he would say): Be godly because of your teaching the Book and because of your studying (it yourselves).
99-/1762 _2-
Translation: ‘Ali ibn Ibrahim, regarding His saying, “And most surely there is among them a party who distort the Book with their tongue ... and they say, It is from Allah,” said: The Jews used to say things that were not in the Torah, then claim they were in the Torah, so Allah declared them liars.
99-/1763 _3-
Translation: And ‘Ali ibn Ibrahim, regarding His saying, “It is not meet for a mortal that Allah should give him the Book and the wisdom and the prophethood, then he should say to men: Be my servants rather than Allah’s; but rather (he would say): Be godly,” said: Jesus did not say to people, “I created you; be servants to me instead of Allah,” but he said to them: “Be godly,” meaning learned.
Qur’an 3:80
Translation (M. H. Shakir): And he will not enjoin you to take the angels and the prophets for lords; what! would he enjoin you to unbelief after you are Muslims?
99-/1764 _4-
Translation: ‘Ali ibn Ibrahim said: There were people who worshiped the angels, and a group among the Christians who claimed that Jesus (peace be upon him) is a Lord, and the Jews said: ‘Uzayr is the son of Allah. So Allah said: “And he will not enjoin you to take the angels and the prophets for lords.”
