99-/1093 _9- In the narration of Abu Basir, from Abu Abdillah (peace be upon him), regarding His saying: wa la tattabi‘ū khuṭuwāti ash-shayṭān.

He said: It is the allegiance to the Second and the First.

99-/1094 _10- From Mas‘adah ibn Sadaqah, from Ja‘far ibn Muhammad, from his father, from his grandfather, who said: The Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) said: Behold, the knowledge that descended with Adam, and all by which the prophets were distinguished until the Seal of the Prophets and Messengers, is with the progeny of the Seal of the Prophets and Messengers. So where are you being led astray? And where are you going, O assembly of those split off from the loins of the companions of the Ark? This is the likeness among you: just as in those two [past trials] some of them were saved, likewise in this [trial] some of you will be saved—this I pledge with my guarantee—and woe to whoever lags behind them. They among you are like the Companions of the Cave; their example is the Gate of Ḥiṭṭah; and they are the Gate of Peace. So enter into peace altogether and do not follow the footsteps of Satan.

99-/1095 _11- Ibn Shahrāshūb: From Zayn al-‘Ābidīn and Ja‘far al-Ṣādiq (peace be upon them both), they said regarding: udkhulū fī as-silmi kāffah: In the wilayah of ‘Ali (peace be upon him); and regarding: wa la tattabi‘ū khuṭuwāti ash-shayṭān: Do not follow anyone other than him.

99-/1096 _12- From Abu Ja‘far (peace be upon him) regarding: udkhulū fī as-silmi kāffah: In our wilayah.

(Quran 2:210)

Do they wait for aught but that Allah should come to them in the shadows of the clouds and the angels; and the matter has (already) been decided; and to Allah do all affairs return. (M. H. Shakir)

99-/1097 _1- Ibn Bābawayh said: Muhammad ibn Ibrahim ibn Ahmad ibn Yunus al-Mu‘ādī [1] told us, he said: Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Sa‘īd al-Kūfī al-Hamdanī told us, he said: ‘Ali ibn al-Hasan ibn Faḍḍāl, from his father, said: I asked al-Riḍā ‘Ali ibn Musa (peace be upon him) about the saying of Allah, Mighty and Majestic: hal yanẓurūna illā an ya’tiyahumu Allāhu fī ẓulalin mina al-ghamām wal-malā’ikatu. He said: It means: Do they wait for aught but that Allah should bring the angels to them in the shadows of the clouds—and thus it was revealed.

And regarding the saying of Allah, Mighty and Majestic: wa jā’a rabbuka wal-malaku ṣaffan ṣaffā [2], he said: Verily Allah, Mighty and Majestic, is not described by coming and going—exalted is He above movement and transition. What is meant by that is: And the command of your Lord came, and the angels (came) in ranks upon ranks.

99-/1098 _2- Sa‘d ibn ‘Abdillah: from Muhammad ibn al-Husayn ibn Abi al-Khiṭāb, from Musa ibn Sa‘dān, from ‘Abdullah ibn al-Qāsim al-Ḥaḍramī, from ‘Abd al-Karīm ibn ‘Amr al-Khath‘amī, who said: I heard Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him) say: Verily Iblis said: Anẓirnī ilā yawmi yub‘athūn [1] (Grant me respite till the day they are raised). But Allah refused that for him, and said: Fa-innaka mina al-munẓarīn, ilā yawmi al-waqti al-ma‘lūm [2] (So surely you are of the respited ones, till the day of the known time). When the Day of the Known Time arrives, Iblis (may Allah curse him) will appear with all his followers from when Allah created Adam (peace be upon him) until the Day of the Known Time, and that is the last return (karrah) which the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) will perform.

I said: Are there truly returns? He said: Yes, indeed, there are returns and returns. There is no Imam in an era except that he returns in his era; with him return the righteous and the wicked in his time, until Allah, Mighty and Majestic, grants dominance to the believer over the disbeliever. When the Day of the Known Time arrives, the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) will return with his companions, and Iblis will come with his companions, and their appointed place will be in a land of the lands of the Euphrates called Rawḥā’, near your Kufa. They will fight a battle the like of which has never been fought since Allah, Mighty and Majestic, created the worlds.

It is as if I see the companions of the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) having fallen back in retreat a hundred paces, and as if I see that some of their feet have slipped into the Euphrates. At that moment the All-Compeller, Mighty and Majestic, descends in the shadows of the clouds, and the angels, and the matter will have been decided; and the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family) will have in his hand a spear of light. When Iblis looks at it, he will withdraw backward, turning on his heels. His followers will say to him, “Where are you going when you have prevailed?” He will say, “I indeed see what you do not see; indeed I fear Allah, the Lord of the worlds.” Then the Prophet (may Allah bless him and his family) will catch up to him and stab him with a thrust between his shoulders; that will be his destruction and the destruction of all his followers. Then Allah, Mighty and Majestic, will be worshiped with no partner associated with Him, and the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) will rule for forty-four thousand years, until a man from the Shi‘ah of ‘Ali (peace be upon him) will beget a thousand sons from his own loins, each year a son. At that time the two verdant gardens will appear by the Mosque of Kufa and its environs, as Allah wills.

99-/1099 _3- ‘Ali ibn Ibrāhīm said: My father told me, from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr, from Manṣūr ibn Yūnus, from ‘Amrū ibn Abi Shaybah, from Abu Ja‘far (peace be upon him), who said—and I heard him initiate this saying: When it appears to Allah to make His creation manifest and gather them for what must be, He commands a herald to call out, and mankind and jinn will assemble more quickly than the blink of an eye. Then He permits the lowest heaven, and it descends—being behind the people; then He permits the second heaven, and it descends, and it is twice the one beneath it. When the people of the lowest heaven see it, they say: “Our Lord has come,” and He is coming—meaning His command—until every heaven descends, each one of them behind the other, each being twice the one beneath it. Then the command of Allah descends: fī ẓulalin mina al-ghamām wal-malā’ikatu wa quḍiya al-amr wa ilā Allāhi turja‘u al-umūr.

And the hadith has a continuation, which will come—if Allah, Exalted, wills—under His saying: lā yaḥzunuhumu al-faza‘u al-akbar, from Surat al-Anbiyā’.

99-/1100 _4- Al-‘Ayyāshī: from Jābir, who said: Abu Ja‘far (peace be upon him) said, regarding His saying, Exalted: fī ẓulalin mina al-ghamām wal-malā’ikatu wa quḍiya al-amr: He descends in seven domes of light; it will not be known in which of them He is, when He descends on the outskirts of Kufa; that is when He descends.

99-/1101 _5- From Abu Ḥamzah, from Abu Ja‘far (peace be upon him), who said: O Abu Ḥamzah, it is as if I see the Qa’im of my Household having ascended your Najaf; and when he rises above your Najaf, he will unfurl the banner of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family). When he unfurls it, the angels of Badr will descend upon him. And Abu Ja‘far (peace be upon him) said: He will descend in domes of light, when he descends on the outskirts of Kufa upon al-Fārūq—this is when he descends. As for “and the matter has been decided,” it is the branding upon the snout, on the day the disbeliever is branded.
