"Say to those who believe that they should forgive those who do not hope for the days of Allah," (Quran 45:14, M.H. Shakir)

He then put down the whip from his hand. The servant began to weep. The Imam asked him: "What makes you cry?"

The servant replied: "Am I, in your eyes, O my master, among those who do not hope for the days of Allah?"

The Imam (peace be upon him) asked him: "Are you among those who hope for the days of Allah?"

He replied: "Yes, O my master."

Then the Imam (peace be upon him) said: "I do not wish to own one who hopes for the days of Allah. Go to the grave of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) and say: ‘O Allah, forgive Ali ibn al-Husayn his sin on the Day of Judgment.’ And you are free for the sake of Allah, the Exalted."
