Daytime, which is the Zuhr prayer; and our companions only emphasize (observing) the zenith on account of it.

99-/1319: And in the narration of Sama‘ah: And stand up truly obedient to Allah—he said: “It is supplication.”

99-/1320: From ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Kathir, from Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him), regarding His saying: Maintain the prayers and the middle prayer, and stand up truly obedient to Allah. He said: “The prayers are: the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family), the Commander of the Faithful, Fatimah, al-Hasan, and al-Husayn (peace be upon them), and the middle one is the Commander of the Faithful. And ‘stand up truly obedient to Allah’ means being obedient to the Imams.”

99-/1321: Abu ‘Ali al-Tabrisi said: “Qunut is the supplication in the prayer while standing.” And this is narrated from Abu Ja‘far and Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon them).

Quran 2:239 (M. H. Shakir): And if you fear (an enemy), then (pray) on foot or riding; but when you are secure, remember Allah, as He taught you what you did not know.

99-/1322: Muhammad ibn Ya‘qub—through his chain—from Ahmad ibn Muhammad, from ‘Ali ibn al-Hakam, from Aban, from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi ‘Abdillah, said: I asked Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him) about the saying of Allah, Mighty and Majestic: And if you fear (an enemy), then (pray) on foot or riding—how does he pray, and what does he say if he fears a wild beast or a thief; how does he pray? He said: “He pronounces the takbir and gestures with his head.”

99-/1323: Al-‘Ayyashi—from Zurara, from Abu Ja‘far (peace be upon him), said: I said to him: Inform me about the prayer during confrontation [1]. He said: “If you do not have parity [2] with your enemy, you pray by gesturing, whether you are on foot or riding, for Allah says: And if you fear (an enemy), then (pray) on foot or riding. You say in the bowing: ‘For You I have bowed, and You are my Lord,’ and in the prostration: ‘For You I have prostrated, and You are my Lord,’ wherever your mount turns you—except that you face (the qiblah) when you pronounce the first takbir.”

99-/1324: From Aban ibn Mansur, from Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him), who said: “The Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) and the people missed (the prayers) one day [at Siffin]—meaning the Zuhr, ‘Asr, Maghrib, and ‘Isha’ prayers—so the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) ordered them to glorify (Allah), to pronounce the takbir, and to proclaim His oneness. He said: And Allah said: And if you fear (an enemy), then (pray) on foot or riding. So ‘Ali (peace be upon him) ordered them, and they did that while riding and on foot.”

And it was narrated by al-Halabi, from Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him), who said: “The people missed the prayer with ‘Ali (peace be upon him) on the Day of Siffin,” to the end of it.

99-/1325: From ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi ‘Abdillah, from Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him), who said: I asked him about the saying of Allah: And if you fear (an enemy), then (pray) on foot or riding—how does he act, and what does he say, and one who fears a wild beast or a thief, how does he pray? He said: “He pronounces the takbir and gestures with his head.”

99-/1326: From ‘Abd al-Rahman, from Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him), regarding the prayer during close combat, he said: “He pronounces the takbir and proclaims the tahlil; he says: ‘Allahu akbar.’ Allah says: And if you fear (an enemy), then (pray) on foot or riding.”

Quran 2:240 (M. H. Shakir): And those of you who die and leave wives behind, they should make a bequest to their wives of maintenance for a year without turning them out, then if they themselves go away, there is no blame on you for what they do of the proper kind about themselves; and Allah is Mighty, Wise.

99-/1327: Al-‘Ayyashi—from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr, from Mu‘awiyah ibn ‘Ammar, said: I asked him about the saying of Allah: And those of you who die and leave wives behind, they should make a bequest to their wives of maintenance for a year without turning them out. He said: “It is abrogated; it was abrogated by the verse: They shall wait concerning themselves for four months and ten [1], and it was abrogated by the verse of inheritance.”

99-/1328: From Abu Basir, said: I asked him about the saying of Allah: And those of you who die and leave wives behind, they should make a bequest to their wives of maintenance for a year without turning them out. He said: “It is abrogated.” I said: How was it (previously)? He said: “When a man died, his wife would be maintained for a year from the principal of the wealth; then she would be turned out without inheritance. Then it was abrogated by the verse of the quarter and the eighth, so the woman is maintained from her share.”

Quran 2:241 (M. H. Shakir): And for the divorced women, (too), provision (must be made) according to usage; (this is) a duty on those who guard (against evil).
