The scrolls and books that contain the elegy of that noble Imam (a.s.)

The fifth objective concerns the scrolls and books that contained mention of the mourning and tragedy of Imām al-Ḥusayn (a.s.), whether before his martyrdom or after it. They are ten in number:

First: The Preserved Tablet (al-Lawḥ al-Maḥfūẓ). When the Pen, by the command of Allah, recorded the Divine decrees concerning Imām al-Ḥusayn (a.s.), it is reported that the Pen proceeded to invoke curses upon his killers even before receiving permission to do so. [714]

Second: The Noble Qur'an, in which there are verses relating to him, as mentioned in the relevant section.

Third: The Torah, in some of its books.

Fourth: The Book of Jeremiah, in which there is a passage whose meaning is:

“A great person will be sacrificed in the way of Allah, and his body will lie under the sun in the northern land near the Euphrates.”

Fifth: The Book of Lakhmān.

Sixth: The Scroll of Shīth (Seth).

In both of these, there are several references to the tragedy of Karbalāʾ.

Seventh: A written scroll belonging to Imām al-Ḥusayn (a.s.) himself, in which it was recorded:

“O Imam Husain (a.s.), sell yourself in the way of Allah. Go forth with a group whose martyrdom has been decreed alongside you. Strive in Allah’s path until you are martyred.” [715]

Eighth: An inscription that was seen in a Christian church three hundred years before the mission of the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.). Its meaning was:

“Do those who kill al-Ḥusayn (a.s.) hope to attain the intercession of his grandfather on the Day of Judgment? No, by Allah! They shall never have an intercessor, and on the Day of Judgment they shall be in punishment.” [716]

A similar inscription was found written with an iron pen on the wall of a monastery on the road to Shām when those carrying the blessed head placed it there and sat around it. [717]

Ninth: A pearl that had descended from heaven and was found in the Mosque of Kūfah. Upon it was inscribed:

“I am the pearl that was scattered from heaven during the wedding of Lady Fāṭimah (a.s.). My color was whiter than silver, but I have become red because of the blood of al-Ḥusayn (a.s.).” [718]

Likewise, certain pebbles were found in various places bearing inscriptions mourning Imām al-Ḥusayn (a.s.), appearing red like blood. [719]

Tenth: The hearts of his devoted followers and special Shīʿah.

Just as faith has been inscribed within their hearts, grief and sorrow for Imām al-Ḥusayn (a.s.) have also been engraved therein.

For this reason, merely hearing his name causes them to become emotionally affected and filled with sorrow. [720]

The sixth objective concerns the special qualities and virtues of gatherings held for weeping over Imām al-Ḥusayn (a.s.).
