Al-Isra Ayah 70
He [Iblis] let out a scream, so the demons gathered back to him and said: Our master, what is this third scream? He said: By Allah, it is because of the companions of Ali; but by Your might and majesty, O Lord, I will surely make sins seem fair to them until I make them detestable to You. He [the narrator] said: Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him) said: By Him who sent Muhammad with the truth, the demons and devils swarm a believer more than wasps swarm meat; yet the believer is stronger than a mountain—the mountain, when the axe approaches it, gets hewn from, but the believer does not depart from his religion.
99-/6441 _2- From ‘Abd al-Rahman b. Salim, regarding the word of Allah: Inna ‘ibādi laisa laka ‘alayhim sulṭānun wa kafā birabbika wakīlā [Qur’an 17:65]. He said: It was revealed about Ali b. Abi Talib (peace be upon him), and we hope it applies to those servants of Allah among the Muslims whom He loves.
Qur’an 17:65 (M. H. Shakir): Surely (as for) My servants, you have no authority over them; and your Lord is sufficient as a Protector.
Qur’an 17:66-69 (M. H. Shakir):
- 17:66 Your Lord is He Who drives the boats for you in the sea that you may seek of His grace; surely He is ever Merciful to you.
- 17:67 And when distress afflicts you in the sea, away go those whom you call on except He; but when He brings you safe to the land, you turn aside; and man is ever ungrateful.
- 17:68 What! do you then feel secure that He should not cause a tract of land to engulf you or send on you a whirlwind? Then shall you not find a guardian for yourselves.
- 17:69 Or, do you feel secure that He would not send you back into it another time, then send on you a fierce gale to drown you because you disbelieved? Then you shall not find any avenger against Us in the matter.
99-/6442 _3- Ali b. Ibrahim: Then He said: Your Lord is the One Who drives the ships for you in the sea—that is, the vessels in the sea—so that you may seek of His bounty; surely He is ever Merciful to you. And when harm touches you in the sea, those whom you call upon besides Allah vanish—meaning, those you invoke other than Allah are rendered void. But when He delivers you to the land, you turn away, and man is ever ungrateful. Then He frightened them, saying: Do you then feel secure that He will not cause a side of the land to swallow you up, or send against you a shower of stones—that is, punishment and destruction? Then you will not find for yourselves a guardian. Or do you feel secure that He will not return you into it another time—that is, another time—then send against you a raging wind—that is, it comes from every direction—so He drowns you because of what you disbelieved. Then you will not find for yourselves against Us any avenger.
99-/6443 _4- He said: And in the narration of Abu al-Jarud from Abu Ja‘far (peace be upon him), regarding His word: qāṣifan mina r-rīḥ, he said: It is the ‘āsif (raging wind). And His word: tabī‘an—he says: a wakīl (guardian); and it is said: a kafīl (surety); and it is said: a thā’ir (one who exacts retribution).

Qur’an 17:70 (M. H. Shakir): And surely We have honored the children of Adam, and We carry them in the land and the sea, and We have given them of the good things, and We have made them to excel by an appropriate excellence over most of those whom We have created.

And We have provided them with the good things—he says: from all goodly fruits. And We have made them to excel—he says: There is no beast and no bird except that it eats and drinks with its mouth, not lifting with its hand to its mouth any food or drink, other than the son of Adam, for he raises his food to his mouth with his hand; and this is part of the preferment.
