S 3 A 78-79

[Quran 3:78] And most surely there is a party of them who distort the Book with their tongues, that you may consider it to be (a part) of the Book, and they say, It is from Allah, while it is not from Allah; and they forge a lie against Allah whilst they know.

[Quran 3:79] It is not meet for a mortal that Allah should give him the Book and the wisdom and the prophethood, then he should say to men: Be my servants rather than Allah's; but rather (he would say): Be worshippers of the Lord because of your teaching the Book and your reading (it yourselves).

[Quran 3:80] And he would not enjoin you that you should take the angels and the prophets for lords; what! would he enjoin you with unbelief after you are Muslims?

99-/1761 - From Abi Ma‘mar al-Sa‘di, he said: ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him), regarding His saying: “And He will not look at them on the Day of Resurrection,” said: It means He will not look at them with favor—that is, He will not have mercy on them. The Arabs may say to a nobleman or a king: “Do not look at us,” meaning, you will not bring us any good. Such is the “looking” from Allah to His creation.

/1762 - ‘Ali ibn Ibrahim, regarding His saying: “And most surely there is a party of them who distort the Book with their tongues … ‘It is from Allah,’ while it is not from Allah,” said: The Jews used to say things that were not in the Torah, and they would say, “It is in the Torah,” so Allah declared them liars.

/1763 - And ‘Ali ibn Ibrahim, regarding His saying: “It is not meet for a mortal that Allah should give him the Book and the wisdom and the prophethood, then he should say to men: Be my servants rather than Allah’s; but rather (he would say): Be worshippers of the Lord,” said: Jesus did not say to the people, “I created you, so be servants to me instead of Allah,” but rather he said to them, “Be rabbaniyyin,” meaning scholars.

/1764 - ‘Ali ibn Ibrahim said: There were people who worshiped the angels, and a group from the Christians claimed that Jesus (peace be upon him) is a lord, and the Jews said, “‘Uzayr is the son of Allah.” So Allah said: “And he would not enjoin you that you should take the angels and the prophets for lords.”
