An-Nahl Ayah 4-6

Translation: And humans and angels—and no angel, nor human, nor jinn has worshiped Allah except by bearing witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; and Allah, Mighty and Majestic, has not created any creature except for His worship.

99-/5967 Translation: Al-‘Ayyāshī, from Hishām b. Sālim, from some of our companions, from Abū ‘Abd Allāh (peace be upon him), who said: I asked him about Allah’s saying: “The command of Allah has come, therefore do not seek to hasten it.” [Quran 16:1, M. H. Shakir] He said: When Allah informs the Prophet (blessings of Allah upon him and his family) about something for a set time, that is His saying: “The command of Allah has come, therefore do not seek to hasten it,” until that time comes. And he said: When Allah informs that a thing will be, it is as though it has already been.

99-/5968 Translation: From Abān b. Taghlib, from Abū ‘Abd Allāh (peace be upon him): “The first to give allegiance to the Qā’im will be Jibrīl (peace be upon him). He will descend to him in the form of a white bird and pledge allegiance to him; then he will place one foot upon the Sacred House and the other upon Bayt al-Maqdis, then he will call out with a loud voice heard by the creatures: ‘The command of Allah has come, therefore do not seek to hasten it.’” [Quran 16:1, M. H. Shakir] And in another narration from Abān, from Abū Ja‘far (peace be upon him), something similar.

99-/5969 Translation: And ‘Alī b. Ibrāhīm said: It was revealed when Quraysh asked the Messenger of Allah (blessings of Allah be upon him and his family) to send punishment down upon them. So Allah, Blessed and Exalted, revealed: “The command of Allah has come, therefore do not seek to hasten it” and His saying: “He sends down the angels with the Spirit by His command,” meaning the power which Allah has placed in them. [Quran 16:1–2, M. H. Shakir: “The command of Allah has come, therefore do not seek to hasten it; glory be to Him, and highly exalted be He above what they associate (with Him). He sends down the angels with the Spirit by His command on whom He pleases of His servants, saying: Give the warning that there is no god but Me, therefore be careful (of your duty) to Me.”]

99-/5970 Translation: Then he said: And in the narration of Abū al-Jārūd, from Abū Ja‘far (peace be upon him), regarding His saying: “on whom He pleases of His servants: Give the warning that there is no god but Me, therefore be careful (of your duty) to Me,” he said: “With the Book and the Prophethood.” [Quran 16:2, M. H. Shakir]

Translation [Quran 16:4–6, M. H. Shakir]: He created man from a small seed and lo! he is an open contender. And the cattle He has created for you; in them there is warmth and (other) advantages, and of them you eat. And there is beauty in them for you when you drive them home in the evening and when you send them forth to pasture.

99-/5971 Translation: And ‘Alī b. Ibrāhīm said regarding His saying, “He created man from a small seed, and lo! he is an open contender”: He created him from a drop of vile water, and he then becomes disputatious, articulate, and eloquent.

99-/5972 Translation: Then he said: And Abū al-Jārūd, regarding His saying, “And the cattle He has created for you; in them there is warmth and (other) advantages,” said: “Warmth (dif’),” [means] the trimmings of camels; and it is said rather it is the means of warmth from dwellings and garments.

99-/5973 Translation: Then ‘Alī b. Ibrāhīm said regarding His saying, “warmth (dif’)”: that is, that by which they seek warmth—what is made from their wool and their hair.

99-/5974 Translation: Then he said regarding His saying, “And there is beauty in them for you when you drive them home in the evening and when you send them forth to pasture”: “When you drive them home (turīḥūn) is when they return from pasture; and ‘when you send them forth’ (tusraḥūn) is when they go out to the pasture.”

Translation [Quran 16:7, M. H. Shakir]: And they carry your heavy loads to regions which you could not reach but with distress of the souls; most surely your Lord is Compassionate, Merciful.

99-/5975 Translation: Muhammad b. Ya‘qūb, from Abū ‘Alī al-Ash‘arī, from Muhammad b. ‘Abd al-Jabbār, from Safwān b. Yahyā, from ‘Abd Allāh b. Yahyā al-Kāhilī, who said: I heard Abū ‘Abd Allāh (peace be upon him) say—and he mentioned the Hajj—so he said: “The Messenger of Allah (blessings of Allah be upon him and his family) said: It is one of the two jihads; it is the jihad of the weak, and we are the weak. Indeed, there is nothing better than Hajj except prayer, and in Hajj there is prayer here, while in prayer, before you, there is no Hajj. Do not abandon Hajj while you are able to perform it. Do you not see that in it your hair becomes disheveled, and your skin becomes chapped, and you are prevented therein from looking at women? And as for us, we are here, and we are near, and we have connected waters, yet we do not reach the Hajj without it being hard upon us—so how is it with you in distant lands? And there is no king nor commoner who reaches the Hajj except with hardship: from a change of food or drink, or wind, or sun which he cannot repel—and that is His saying, Mighty and Majestic: ‘And they carry your heavy loads to regions which you could not reach but with distress of the souls; most surely your Lord is Compassionate, Merciful.’” [Quran 16:7, M. H. Shakir]

99-/5976 Translation: Al-‘Ayyāshī, from al-Kāhilī, who said: I heard Abū ‘Abd Allāh (peace be upon him) mention the Hajj, and he said: “The Messenger of Allah (blessings of Allah be upon him and his family) said: It is one of the two jihads; it is the jihad of the weak, and we are the weak. Indeed, there is nothing better than Hajj except …” [report continues].
