Al-Anbiya Ayah 24

21:24 — Or have they taken gods besides Him? Say: Bring your proof; this is the reminder of those with me and the reminder of those before me, but most of them do not know the truth, so they turn aside. (M. H. Shakir)

99-/7124 _1-

99-/7124 — Ali ibn Ibrahim, regarding His saying: “Bring your proof,” said: that is, your argument; “this is the mention of those with me,” meaning their report; “and the mention of those before me,” meaning their report.

99-/7125 _2-

99-/7125 — Al-Tabrisi: Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him) said: “By ‘the mention of those with me’: those who are with him and what will come to be; and by ‘the mention of those before me’: what has already been.”

99-/7126 _3-

99-/7126 — Muhammad ibn al-‘Abbas said: Muhammad ibn Hammam narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Isma‘il al-‘Alawi, from ‘Isa ibn Dawud al-Najjar, from our master Abu al-Hasan Musa ibn Ja‘far (peace be upon them both), regarding His saying: “This is the mention of those with me and the mention of those before me.” He said: “The mention of those with me is ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him), and the mention of those before me are the prophets and the legatees (peace be upon them).”

21:26 — And they say: The Beneficent God has taken to Himself a son. Glory be to Him. Nay! they are honored servants. (M. H. Shakir)

21:27 — They do not precede Him in speech and (only) according to His commandment do they act. (M. H. Shakir)

21:28 — He knows what is before them and what is behind them, and they do not intercede except for him whom He approves, and for fear of Him they tremble. (M. H. Shakir)

99-/7127 _4-

99-/7127 — Ali ibn Ibrahim said: It refers to what the Christians said, “The Messiah is the son of Allah,” and what the Jews said, “Uzair is the son of Allah”; and they said about the Imams (peace be upon them) what they said. So Allah, Mighty and Majestic, out of transcendence on His behalf, said: “Rather, [they are] honored servants,” meaning those whom they claimed to be the offspring of Allah. And the response to those who claimed that is in Surat al-Zumar, in His saying: “If Allah had desired to take a son to Himself, He would surely have chosen what He pleased out of what He has created.”

39:4 — If Allah had desired to take a son to Himself, He would surely have chosen what He pleased out of what He has created. Glory be to Him; He is Allah, the One, the Subduer (of all). (M. H. Shakir)
