Chapter of Ibrāhīm (a.s.) and Imam Husain (a.s.), and the Refusal of the Assistance of the Angels
Chapter of Ibrāhīm (a.s.) and Imam Husain (a.s.), and the Refusal of the Assistance of the Angels
Whenever in the ziyārah you say:
“Peace be upon Ibrāhīm, the Friend of Allah,”
then if you wish, intend Prophet Ibrāhīm (a.s.), who cast himself into the fire of Nimrūd in the path of drawing near to Allah. The fire extended for the distance of one farsakh, and he did not accept the assistance of the angels, nor did he supplicate for his own deliverance. Rather, he said that Allah's knowledge of his condition was sufficient in place of his asking. [1369]
And if you wish, intend the Friend of Karbalāʾ, who, in the path of nearness to Allah, cast himself before swords and spears over many farsakhs, and who did not accept the aid of the angels. [1370]
He became the means by which the fire was carried upon a great multitude, and he departed after offering salutations. [1371]
And if you wish, intend the Friend who offered his son Ismāʿīl (a.s.) as a sacrifice and laid him upon the ground.
Or intend the Son of the Friend, who offered his son ʿAlī (a.s.) as a sacrifice and saw his body torn into pieces upon the earth.
If you wish, intend the Friend whose wife Sārah asked him for flour. He felt ashamed to return with an empty load, so he filled his saddle-bags with sand, and Allah transformed it into flour. [1372]
Or intend the Son of the Friend, whose daughter Sukaynah asked him for water, but he returned empty-handed and said to her:
“My daughter, your thirst is difficult for me to bear.”
If you wish, intend the Friend who left his family in a valley without cultivation, while they had a single waterskin of water with them. Then he came and held onto the Kaʿbah and said:
“O Allah, I have settled some of my descendants in this uncultivated valley.”
Then he prayed for them, that the hearts of people might incline toward them and that they might be provided with fruits as sustenance.
Or intend this Friend, who left his family in a valley without water or food, thirsty, hungry, and bewildered, and
at the time of farewell said:
“Prepare yourselves for captivity.” [1373]
If you wish, intend the Friend who loved hospitality. [1374]
Or this Friend who loved intercession, and no one who clings to him is left hopeless.
If you wish, intend the Friend who was the possessor of a religious community (ملة).
Or the Friend who is the source of mercy.
