Hud Ayah 1-6
99-/Qur’an [Hud 11:1-6]—M. H. Shakir: In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. Alif Lam Ra. A Book whose verses are made decisive, then are they made plain, from the Wise, All-aware: That you shall not serve aught but Allah, (and say): Surely I am a warner for you from Him and a giver of good news, And that you should ask forgiveness of your Lord, then turn to Him; He will provide you with a goodly provision to an appointed term and bestow His grace on every one who has grace; and if you turn back, then surely I fear for you the chastisement of a great day. To Allah is your return, and He has power over all things. Now surely they fold up their breasts that they may hide (their enmity) from Him. Now surely when they put on their garments, He knows what they conceal and what they reveal; surely He knows what is in the breasts. And there is no animal in the earth but on Allah is the sustenance of it, and He knows its resting place and its depository; all is in a manifest book.

99-/5001: ʿAlī ibn Ibrāhīm said: “Alif Lām Rā. 99-/5005: ʿAlī ibn Ibrāhīm said regarding His saying, “And if you turn back, then surely I fear for you the chastisement of a great day”—he said: “The smoke and the cry.” Then he said regarding, “Now surely they fold up their breasts that they may hide (their enmity) from Him”—that is, they conceal in their breasts their hatred of ʿAlī (peace be upon him). And the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his Family) said: “The sign of a hypocrite is hatred of ʿAlī.” There were people who would show love for ʿAlī (peace be upon him) in the presence of the Prophet (may Allah bless him and his Family) [1] while concealing their hatred for him. So He said, “Now surely when they put on their garments…” For when he would speak about something of ʿAlī’s virtues (peace be upon him) or recite to them what Allah had revealed about him, they would shake their garments and stand up and leave. Allah, Exalted, says, “He knows what they conceal and what they reveal when they stand up; surely He knows what is in the breasts.” [Hud 11:3, 5, Shakir]

99-/5010: Al-ʿAyyāshī: From Muḥammad ibn al-Fuḍayl, from Jābir, from Abū Jaʿfar (peace be upon him), who said: “A man from the desert came to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his Family) and said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, I have sons and daughters, and brothers and sisters, and grandsons and granddaughters, and nephews and nieces, and our livelihood is meager. If you see fit—O Messenger of Allah—to pray to Allah to expand (sustenance) for us?’ He wept, and the Muslims felt compassion for him. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his Family) said: ‘And there is no animal in the earth but on Allah is its sustenance, and He knows its resting place and its depository; all is in a manifest book. Whoever undertakes to support these mouths whose sustenance is guaranteed by Allah, Allah pours sustenance upon him in torrents like heavy rain—if little, then little; and if much, then much.’ Then the Messenger of Allah prayed, and the Muslims said ‘āmīn’ for him.” He said: Abū Jaʿfar (peace be upon him) said: “Someone who saw that man in the time of ʿUmar related to me that he asked him about his condition, and he replied: ‘I am among those most well-endowed with lawful provision and among the wealthiest.’” [Hud 11:6, Shakir]

99-/5011: Al-ʿAyyāshī: From ʿAbd Allāh ibn Sinān, from Abū ʿAbd Allāh (peace be upon him), who said: “Allah created good on Sunday—and He would not create evil before good. On Sunday and Monday He created the earths; on Tuesday He created their sustenance; on Wednesday He created the heavens; on Thursday He created their sustenance; and on Friday [1]. That is the meaning of His saying, ‘He created the heavens and the earth in six periods’; and for that reason the Jews kept (from work) on Saturday.” Muḥammad ibn Yaʿqūb also narrated this hadith with his chain from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Sinān, from Abū ʿAbd Allāh (peace be upon him) [2].
