The Talbiyah of al-Imam Husain (a.s.) Like the Talbiyah of Kalim Allah (a.s.)
The Talbiyah of al-Imam Husain (a.s.) Like the Talbiyah of Kalim Allah (a.s.)
Its brief explanation is that that noble Imam (a.s.) entered into ihraam from the Miqat of Madinah and recited the talbiyyah like Kalim Allah, Musa (a.s.), when he fled from Pharaoh.
He recited this verse:
“He departed from it in fear, looking around apprehensively, and said: ‘My Lord, save me from the wrongdoing people.’” (Surah al-Qasas 28:21)
at the time of his departure from Madinah. [1]
And he recited this verse:
“And when he turned toward Madyan, he said: ‘Perhaps my Lord will guide me to the right path.’” (Surah al-Qasas 28:22)
at the time of his arrival in Makkah. [2]
When he completed those rites and emerged from them, he entered into ihraam for the Hajj of Prophet Ibrahim al-Khalil (a.s.), who used to say:
“Indeed, I am going to my Lord; He will surely guide me.” (Surah al-Saffat 37:99) [3]
Thus he recited the talbiyyah for that Hajj.
And when he completed its rites, he entered into ihraam from the tents and recited the talbiyyah for a Hajj that was unique to himself and his household.
When he completed that, he entered into ihraam from his station and position on the battlefield. [4]
And when he completed that, he entered into ihraam from the place of martyrdom (qatlgaah) and recited the talbiyyah for a special Hajj after the separation of his noble soul from his blessed body.
For each one of these pilgrimages there was a particular caller (muazzin) who gave the call for that Hajj—a call of invitation to fulfill the special command that had been directed to that noble Imam (a.s.) and had been recorded in the scroll specifically designated for him.
Its explanation is that he first heard the call of the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.) during his first Hajj, the Hajj for which he entered into ihraam at the grave of the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.).
Then he recited the talbiyyah and departed from Madinah.
When he completed its rites, he heard the second call in Makkah.
Thus he recited the talbiyyah, entered into ihraam, and completed its rites on the afternoon of the ninth of Muharram (Tasuʿa).
Then he heard the third call in front of the tents for the third Hajj, which was more difficult than the previous ones.
He completed its rites at noon on the Day of ʿAshura.
Then he heard the fourth call for the Greater Hajj (al-hajj al-akbar), namely the command:
“Fight until you are killed.”
And its caller was ʿAli al-Akbar (a.s.), speaking on behalf of the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.). [5]
