Visiting Imam Husain (a.s.), the Ranks of the Honored Servants, and Others

The first discussion: Whenever you visit Imam Husain (a.s.), there are attained for you the ranks of the honored servants (Ebaad Mukarrameen), who are the angels. This is because, according to the narrations, for the visitor there are recorded the prayers of the angels, their glorification (Tasbeeh), sanctification (Taqdees), and worship until the Day of Resurrection. [494]

Indeed, the angels will become his deputies

in visiting him until the Day of Resurrection. [495]

From this discussion the meaning becomes clear of that which has been reported in some narrations: that whoever visits Imam Husain (a.s.) shall be among the honored servants (Ebaad Mukarrameen). [496]

The second discussion: When you visit that martyred Imam (a.s.), there are attained for you the ranks of the chosen servants (Ebaad Mustafeen), who are the Prophets (a.s.). This is because among the rewards of the visitors is that they shall be in the ranks of the Prophets (a.s.) and the Awṣiyāʾ (a.s.), and shall be their companions. They shall eat at one table with them. They shall shake hands with them, converse with them, supplicate for them, and send greetings upon them, as has been reported in the narrations. [497]

The third discussion: Through the means of Imam Husain (a.s.), there are attained the ranks of the righteous servants (Ebaad Saaleheen), the sincere servants (Mukhleseen), the believers (Mo'meneen), the God-fearing (Muttaqeen), the ascetics (Zaahedeen), the fearful (Khaaefeen), and the other categories of servants. Likewise, there is attained the reward of all accepted acts of worship, including prayer, fasting, Hajj, Jihād, guarding the frontiers (Muraabetah), endowments (Waqf), charity, etiquettes, recommended acts, the reward of the highest degrees of intention, and the reward of worship throughout one's entire life, indeed throughout all time, as has been reported in the narrations. [498]

The fourth discussion: Through his means there is attained eligibility to be included in the Divine call:

“Do not despair of the mercy of Allah; surely Allah forgives all sins.” (Surah al-Zumar 39:53) [499]

This is because, through weeping for and visiting that noble Imam (a.s.), forgiveness of all sins is attained—not only past sins, but future sins as well; not only your own sins, but also the sins of your parents and your friends are forgiven, as will become clear from the narrations that will be mentioned later, if Allah wills. [500]

The second address:

“O mankind! Be mindful of your Lord.” (Surah al-Nisāʾ 4:1) [501]

And this, like the previous address, is the essence of the message of all the Prophets (a.s.) and the content of all the heavenly scriptures.

And Taqwa is of several kinds: the Taqwa of the common people, the Taqwa of the elite, and the Taqwa of the elite of the elite.

And the fruits of all these kinds are attained through the Imam Husain (a.s.)ī means.

The highest fruit of Taqwa is that Allah, the Exalted, on the Day of Resurrection will call out to the God-fearing:

“O My servants! No fear shall be upon you today, nor shall you grieve.” (Surah al-Zukhruf 43:68) [9]

Those visitors who visit Imam Husain (a.s.) while recognizing his right and station (Aarefan Behaqqe) shall be addressed on the Day of Resurrection with this very call, as will be explained in detail in the next section.

The third address:

“And spend in the way of Allah.” (Surah al-Baqarah 2:195) [10]

[[11] Through the Imam Husain (a.s.)ī means there are attained the fruits of all forms of spending, including giving, feeding others, providing water, zakāt, charities, and every kind of good deed and benevolence.

Indeed, through them there is attained something that cannot be attained by any other means.

For example, it has been reported that whoever gives water to the thirsty beside the grave of that noble Imam (a.s.) on the night of ʿĀshūrāʾ, it is as though he has given water to the entire army of that Imam (a.s.). [12]

Indeed, it may be said that if a person from afar imagines the condition of that Imam (a.s.) and his heart burns with sorrow, then his heart becomes like the sacred scene of that Imam (a.s.). Thus, if tears flow from his eyes like water, it is as though he has given water to that Imam (a.s.), his family, his children, and his companions.

The fourth address:

“And strive in the way of Allah as is His due.” (Surah al-Hajj 22:78) [13]

Jihād is of two kinds: the greater Jihād (Jehaad Akbar) and the lesser Jihād (Jehaad Asgar).

In the greater Jihād, which is against the Nafs Ammaarah (the soul that commands evil), both the slayer and the slain are fortunate and blessed.

In the lesser Jihād against the disbelievers, the one who is killed is a martyr.

And you are deficient in the greater Jihād and excluded from the lesser Jihād.

However, you can attain both through the means of Imam Husain (a.s.).

And its explanation is in several discussions.
