English: 99-/2012 - Sa‘d b. ‘Abdullah said: Muhammad b. al-Husayn b. Abi’l-Khattab narrated to us, from Muhammad b. Sinan, from ‘Ammar b. Marwan, from al-Munakhkhal b. Jamil, from Jabir b. Yazid, from Abu Ja‘far (peace be upon him), who said: “There is no believer but that he has both a slaying and a death; indeed, whoever is slain will be raised until he dies, and whoever dies will be raised until he is slain.” Then I recited to Abu Ja‘far (peace be upon him) this verse: Every soul shall taste of death, and he said: “and shall be resurrected.” I said: Your statement “and shall be resurrected”—what is it? He said: “Thus did Gabriel reveal it to Muhammad (blessings of Allah be upon him and his Family): Every soul shall taste of death and shall be resurrected.” Then he said: “There is no one in this community, righteous or wicked, except that he will be raised. As for the believers, they will be raised to what delights their eyes, and as for the wicked, they will be raised to Allah’s disgrace of them. Have you not heard that Allah, Exalted is He, says: We will most certainly make them taste the nearer punishment before the greater punishment [1]; and His saying: O you who are clothed! Arise and warn [2]—He means thereby Muhammad (blessings be upon him and his Family) and his rising in the Raj‘a, in which he will warn; and His saying: Surely it is one of the greatest (signs), a warner to mortals [3]—He means Muhammad (blessings be upon him and his Family), a warner to mortals in the Raj‘a; and His saying: He it is Who sent His Messenger with the guidance and the religion of truth, that He might cause it to prevail over all religions, though the polytheists may be averse [4]—Allah, Mighty and Majestic, will make it prevail in the Raj‘a; and His saying: Until when We open upon them a gate of severe chastisement [5]—it is ‘Ali b. Abi Talib when he returns in the Raj‘a.” Jabir said: Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him) said: “The Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him), regarding His, Mighty and Majestic, saying: Often will those who disbelieve wish that they had been Muslims [6], said: ‘That is I—when I and my Shi‘a come forth, and ‘Uthman and his Shi‘a come forth, and we kill the Banu Umayya—then will those who disbelieve wish that they had been Muslims.’” I said: Reports have already preceded on the verse in His saying, Exalted is He: What! if he dies or is killed, will you then turn back on your heels? [7]

English (Qur’an 3:186, M. H. Shakir): You shall certainly be tried respecting your wealth and your lives, and you shall certainly hear from those who have been given the Book before you and from those who are polytheists much annoying talk; and if you are patient and guard (against evil), surely this is one of the matters of firm resolve.
