Ṣāliḥ (a.s.), the Owner of the She-Camel, and Imam Husain (a.s.), the Guardian of His Family and Children

Ṣāliḥ (a.s.), the Owner of the She-Camel, and Imam Husain (a.s.), the Guardian of His Family and Children

Chapter of Ṣāliḥ (a.s.):

Ṣāliḥ (a.s.), the owner of the she-camel, was tested with providing water for it. [1381]

And Imam Husain (a.s.), the guardian of his family and children, was tested with obtaining water for them.

Ṣāliḥ (a.s.) desired that

for one complete day all the water should belong to his she-camel and that no one else should drink from it, and his people accepted this arrangement for several days.

But Imam Husain (a.s.) requested a few water-skins of water for his family and children, and they refused him. [1382]

Until finally he became content if they would give a single sip to his infant child, [1383]

or allow a single drop to reach his liver, yet they refused. [1384]

When the people hamstrung the she-camel of Ṣāliḥ (a.s.), its young calf ascended the mountain crying out in lamentation, and to this day those who pass through that place feel fear and dread there. [1385]

And when Imam Husain (a.s.) raised his infant child in his hands in order to ask for water for him, they shot an arrow at him.

The child let out a cry, and his soul departed from his body.

Then the Imam (a.s.) said:

“O Allah! This child of mine is not less in Your sight than the young camel of Ṣāliḥ. Therefore, take vengeance upon this people. And if You do not deem vengeance appropriate at this time, then grant a better recompense in exchange.”

[1386]

The author says:

The better recompense is what Allah has granted to that noble one (a.s.) in return for the cry of that child: namely, the relief of those who cry out on the Day of Resurrection, or who cry out in the various stations of the Hereafter, or who cry out amidst the Fire.

Especially if, now, upon hearing the tragedy of this child, their own cries are raised in grief.
