Al-Isra Ayah 82
And We reveal of the Quran that which is a healing and a mercy to the believers, and it adds only to the perdition of the unjust. (Al-Isra 17:82, M. H. Shakir)
The last of it was that they would carry off a limb of mine if they could, but they were unable to do so. Then he said, “Come near to me, O Ali.” He [Ali] said: I drew near to him, and he struck his hand to my shin and lifted me up from the ground; he stood upright with me, and suddenly I was upon his shoulders. He said to me, “O Ali, mention the Name and take it.” So I took the idol and hurled it to the ground, and it shattered into pieces three times.
Then the Prophet (may Allah bless him and his family) said: “O Ali, what do you see while you are upon my shoulders?” I said, “Good—may my father and mother be your ransom, O Messenger of Allah. If I wished to touch the sky with my hand, I would have been able to.” He said to me, “O Ali, may Allah increase your honor upon your honor.”
Then he lowered me from beneath, and I fell to the ground and laughed. He said, “What makes you laugh, O Ali?” I said, “May my father and mother be your ransom, O Messenger of Allah. I fell from the top of the Ka‘bah to the ground, yet I did not feel pain from the fall.” He said, “O Ali, how could you feel pain when Muhammad carried you, and Gabriel (peace be upon him) set you down?”
The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family) went on his way. Then al-‘Abbas boasted: “I am the chief of Quraysh, the most noble of them in lineage, the most splendid in mount, and in my hand is the watering of the pilgrims; none besides me oversees it.” Shaybah said: “No; rather I am the chief of Quraysh, and in my hand is the custodianship of the Ka‘bah; none besides me oversees it.” Ali (peace be upon him) said: “You have made me detest you both with your words. I am your chief, and the chief of the people of the earth after the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family). I am the one who struck your faces until you believed and acknowledged that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family).” They became angry at his words and came to the Prophet (may Allah bless him and his family) and informed him of what Ali (peace be upon him) had said to them. Gabriel (peace be upon him) descended and said: “O Muhammad, The Truth conveys to you greetings of peace and says to you: Say to Shaybah and al-‘Abbas: ‘Do you make the giving of drink to the pilgrims and the maintenance of al-Masjid al-Haram like him who believes in Allah and the Last Day and strives hard in the way of Allah? They are not equal with Allah’ [1]—O Muhammad—Ali is better than both of them.”
What! do you make the giving of drink to the pilgrims and the guarding of the Sacred Mosque like him who believes in Allah and the last day and strives hard in Allah’s way? They are not equal with Allah. (Al-Tawbah 9:19, M. H. Shakir)

Al-‘Ayyashi: From Hamdawayh, from Ya‘qub ibn Yazid, from some of our companions, who said: I asked Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him) about playing chess. He said: “Chess is of falsehood.”
And We reveal of the Quran that which is a healing and a mercy to the believers, and it adds only to the perdition of the unjust. (Al-Isra 17:82, M. H. Shakir)
From Mas‘adah ibn Sadaqah, from Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him), who said: “Surely the healing lies in the knowledge of the Quran, for His saying: ‘what is a healing and a mercy to the believers’—for its people, without doubt or uncertainty. And its people are the Imams of guidance about whom Allah said:
Then We gave the Book for an inheritance to those whom We chose from among Our servants. (Fatir 35:32, M. H. Shakir)

From Muhammad ibn Abi Hamzah, raising it to Abu Ja‘far (peace be upon him), who said: “Gabriel descended upon Muhammad (may Allah bless him and his family) with this verse: ‘and it adds only to the perdition of the unjust’—[meaning] those who wrong the Family of Muhammad in their right.”
Muhammad ibn al-‘Abbas said: Muhammad ibn Khalid al-Barqi narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn ‘Ali al-Sayrafi, from Ibn al-Fudayl, from Abu Hamzah, from Abu Ja‘far (peace be upon him), who said regarding: “And We reveal of the Quran that which is a healing and a mercy to the believers, and it adds only to the perdition of the unjust”—[that is] those who wrong the Family of Muhammad in their right.”
And from him, he said: Muhammad ibn Hammam narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Isma‘il al-‘Alawi, from ‘Isa ibn Dawud, from Abu al-Hasan Musa, from his father (peace be upon them), who said: “This verse was revealed: ‘And We reveal of the Quran that which is a healing and a mercy to the believers, and it adds only to the perdition of the unjust’—[meaning] those who wrong the Family of Muhammad.”
Say: Every one acts according to his manner; but your Lord best knows who is best guided in the path. (Al-Isra 17:84, M. H. Shakir)
Muhammad ibn Ya‘qub: From ‘Ali ibn Ibrahim, from his father, from al-Qasim ibn Muhammad, from al-Minqari, from Sufyan ibn ‘Uyaynah, from Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him), who said: “Intention is superior to deed. Lo, indeed intention is the deed itself.” Then he recited His Mighty and Majestic word: “Say: Every one acts according to his manner”—meaning, according to his intention.
And from him: From ‘Ali ibn Ibrahim, from his father, from al-Qasim ibn Muhammad, from al-Minqari, from Ahmad ibn Yunus, from Abu Hashim, who said: Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him) said: “The people of the Fire are made to abide in the Fire only because their intentions in the world were that, if they were to abide in it forever, they would disobey Allah forever. And the people of the Garden are made to abide in the Garden only because their intentions in the world were that, if they were to remain in it, they would obey Allah forever. So by intentions these are made to abide and those are made to abide.” Then he recited His saying, exalted is He: “Say: Every one acts according to his manner,” and he said: “According to his intention.”
‘Ali ibn Ibrahim said: My father narrated to me, from Ja‘far ibn Ibrahim, from Abu al-Hasan al-Rida (peace be upon him), who said: “When the Day of Resurrection comes, the believer will be made to stand before Him, and he himself will undertake his own reckoning. His deeds will be presented to him in his record. The first…”
