10. The Role of Writing Books About Imam Husain (a.s.)

(1) The late Ayatullah Haj Sayyid Muhammad Shirazi (may Allah sanctify his soul) repeatedly said:

“One night I saw in a dream that I was in the sacred shrine of Imam Husain (a.s.). The Imam was sitting in the iwan (porch) of the shrine, facing the qibla with his back to the zarih (the lattice structure over the grave). In the place of the noble grave, there was a water well, and water from it was being carried through pipes to the graves around the shrine.

At that time, one of the preachers whom I knew, who was buried near the shrine, came to the presence of the Imam and complained, ‘I do not have water.’

The Imam replied, ‘These waters belong to those who have written books, left something behind as a legacy, but you did not write any book.’

Ayatullah Shirazi added: I had many times told that person during his life: “Since you deliver sermons, you should write down your sermons so that they could become a book,” but he had never done so.”

(2) The late Ayatullah Sayyid Muhammad Hasan Mirjani (1319–1413 AH), the owner of many valuable works, made a will at the time of his passing that one volume of his book Al-Buka’ lil Husain should be placed in his grave facing his face.

His executor, the respected Haj Ahmad Jelvani, at the time of burial in the shrine of Allamah Majlisi, placed one volume of that book in his grave.

His wife, who had no knowledge of this matter, saw him one night in a dream after his burial. She saw him in the grave and said:

“O master, you are lying here alone — do you not feel lonely?”

He replied,

“I am not alone, I am with Al-Buka’.”

Since that lady did not know about the book in the grave, she did not understand what he meant.

When she later met Haj Ahmad Agha, she told him about her dream, and he replied:

“Do you know that one of the precious works of Ayatullah Mirjani is a book called Al-Buka’ lil Husain?”

She said, “No.”

He said,

“Yes, he has a book by that name, and according to his will, I placed one volume of it in his grave.”

Yes, truly — a book authored about the Master of Martyrs (a.s.) becomes the companion and friend of its writer not only in the Hereafter, but even in the realm of Barzakh.
