Taha Ayah 82
English: Described with the attribute of a created being; and surely nothing agitates the Mighty and Majestic God so as to alter Him. Ibn Bābawayh narrated it in his book (al-Tawḥīd): He said, My father (may God have mercy on him) told me, he said: Aḥmad b. Idrīs narrated to us, from Aḥmad b. Abī ʿAbdillāh, from Muḥammad b. ʿĪsā al-Yaqṭīnī, from al-Mashriqī, from Ḥamzah b. al-Rabīʿ, from one who mentioned it, who said: I was in the session of Abū Jaʿfar (peace be upon him), and he related the like of it with a variation that does not harm the meaning [1]. He also narrated it in (Maʿānī al-Akhbār) with this chain, except that in it: from al-Mashriqī Ḥamzah b. al-Rabīʿ; and at the end of the ḥadīth: “and nothing changes Him” [2]—with a prefixed conjunction “and”—as it is in the book (al-Tawḥīd) [3].
English: 99-/7024 _2- Al-Mufīd in (al-Irshād) said: The scholars have narrated that ʿAmr b. ʿUbayd came to Muḥammad b. ʿAlī b. al-Ḥusayn (peace be upon them) to test him with questions. He said to him: May I be your ransom, what is the meaning of His saying, exalted is He: “Have not those who disbelieve considered that the heavens and the earth were both closed up, then We opened them out?” (Qur’an 21:30, M. H. Shakir). What is this “closed up” and “opened out”? Abū Jaʿfar (peace be upon him) said: The heaven was closed up, it did not send down rain, and the earth was closed up, it did not bring forth vegetation. ʿAmr was silenced and found no objection, and he left and then returned to him and said: Inform me—may I be your ransom—about His saying, Mighty and Majestic: “And whoever My wrath descends upon, he is lost indeed.” (Qur’an 20:81, M. H. Shakir). What is God’s wrath? Abū Jaʿfar (peace be upon him) said: God’s wrath—O ʿAmr—is His punishment. And whoever supposes that anything alters God has indeed disbelieved.
English (Qur’an 20:82, M. H. Shakir): And most surely I am most Forgiving to him who repents and believes and does good, then continues to follow the right direction.

English: 99-/7025 _1- Muḥammad b. Yaʿqūb: from ʿAlī b. Ibrāhīm, from Ṣāliḥ b. al-Sindī, from Jaʿfar b. Bashīr and Muḥammad b. Yaḥyā, from Aḥmad b. Muḥammad b. ʿĪsā, from Ibn Faḍḍāl, all of them, from Abū Jamīlah, from Khālid b. ʿAmmār, from Sadīr, who said: I heard Abū Jaʿfar (peace be upon him) as he was entering and I was leaving, and he took my hand, then faced the House and said: O Sadīr, the people were only commanded to come to these stones and circumambulate them, then to come to us and inform us of their allegiance to us. And it is the saying of God, exalted is He: “And most surely I am most Forgiving to him who repents and believes and does good, then continues to follow the right direction” (Qur’an 20:82, M. H. Shakir)—then he gestured with his hand to his chest—toward allegiance to us.
English: Then he said: O Sadīr, shall I show you those who bar people from the religion of God? He then looked at Abū Ḥanīfah and Sufyān al-Thawrī in that era, who were sitting in circles in the mosque, and said: These are those who bar from the religion of God without guidance from God or an illuminating Book. If these vile ones were to sit in their homes and the people moved about and found no one to inform them about God, blessed and exalted, and about the Messenger of God (may God bless him and his Family), they would come to us, and we would inform them about God, blessed and exalted, and about the Messenger of God (may God bless him and his Family).

English: 99-/7026 _2- Muḥammad b. al-Ḥasan al-Ṣaffār: from Muḥammad b. ʿĪsā, from Ṣafwān, from Yaʿqūb b. Shuʿayb, who said: I asked Abū ʿAbdillāh (peace be upon him) about the saying of God, blessed and exalted: “And most surely I am most Forgiving to him who repents and believes and does good, then continues to follow the right direction.” He said: One who repents from wrongdoing, and believes after disbelief, and does good, then is rightly guided to our allegiance—and he gestured with his hand to his chest.

English: 99-/7027 _3- Ibn Bābawayh said: ʿAlī b. Aḥmad b. ʿAbdillāh b. Aḥmad b. Abī ʿAbdillāh al-Barqī narrated to us, from his father, from his grandfather Aḥmad b. Abī ʿAbdillāh al-Barqī, from his father Muḥammad b. Khālid al-Barqī, who said: Sahl b. al-Marzubān [1] al-Fārisī narrated to us, who said: Muḥammad b. Manṣūr narrated to us, from ʿAbdullāh b. Jaʿfar, from Muḥammad b. al-Fayḍ b. al-Mukhtār, from his father, from Abū Jaʿfar Muḥammad b. ʿAlī al-Bāqir, from his father, from his grandfather (peace be upon them), who said: The Messenger of God (may God bless him and his Family) went out one day riding, and ʿAlī (peace be upon him) went out walking. He said to him: O Abā al-Ḥasan, either ride or go back. … until he said in it: By God, O ʿAlī, you were created only to worship your Lord, and that the landmarks of the religion be known by you, and that the obliterated path be set right by you. Indeed, whoever strays from you is certainly astray; and none will be rightly guided to God, Mighty and Majestic, who is not guided to you and to your allegiance. And it is the saying of my Lord, Mighty and Majestic: “And most surely I am most Forgiving to him who repents and believes and does good, then continues to follow the right direction”—that is, to your allegiance (Qur’an 20:82, M. H. Shakir). The ḥadīth in full has been mentioned under Sūrat al-Māʾidah, His saying: “O Messenger! Deliver what has been revealed to you from your Lord” (Qur’an 5:67, M. H. Shakir).

English: 99-/7028 _4- ʿAlī b. Ibrāhīm said: Aḥmad b. ʿAlī narrated to us, he said: al-Ḥasan b. ʿAbdillāh narrated to us, from al-Sindī b. Muḥammad, from Abān, from al-Ḥārith b. Yaḥyā, from Abū Jaʿfar (peace be upon him), regarding God’s saying: “And most surely I am most Forgiving to him who repents and believes and does good, then continues to follow the right direction.” He said: Do you not see how He made it conditional? Repentance, faith, and righteous deeds do not benefit him until he is rightly guided. By God, were he to strive to do deeds, nothing would be accepted from him until he is rightly guided.

Do you not see how God, Mighty and Majestic, made it a condition?

English: 99-/7034 _10- Abū ʿAlī al-Ṭabrisī: Abū Jaʿfar al-Bāqir (peace be upon him) said: “Then is rightly guided to our allegiance, we, the People of the House. By God, if a man were to worship God his lifetime between the Corner and the Station, then died and did not come with our allegiance, God would cast him into the Fire on his face.”

English: 7037 _1- ʿAlī b. Ibrāhīm, regarding His saying, exalted is He: “So surely We have tried your people after you, and the Samiri has led them astray,” said: We tested them, and the Samiri led them astray—by the calf which they worshipped. The reason for that was that when God promised Moses to send down upon him the Torah and the tablets in thirty days, he informed the Children of Israel of this, and went to the appointed time, leaving Hārūn among his people. When the thirty days were completed and Moses (peace be upon him) had not returned to them, they became enraged and wanted to kill Hārūn, and they said: Moses has lied to us and fled from us. Satan came to them in the form of a man and said: Moses has fled from you and will never return to you. Gather your ornaments for me so that I may make for you a god you can worship. When Satan came to them and they made the calf, he said to the Samiri: Bring the dust which …
