Al-Anbiya Ayah 95
Translation: The report is lengthy; we have cited it in full under His statement: “Or like him who passed by a town, and it had fallen down upon its roofs,” from Surah al-Baqarah [Quran 2:259]. M. H. Shakir: Or the like of him who passed by a town, and it had fallen down upon its roofs; he said: When will Allah give it life after its death? So Allah made him die for a hundred years, then raised him to life. He said: How long have you tarried? He said: I have tarried a day, or part of a day. He said: Nay! you have tarried a hundred years; then look at your food and drink—years have not passed over it; and look at your donkey; and that We may make you a sign to men; and look at the bones—how We assemble them together, then clothe them with flesh; so when it became clear to him, he said: I know that Allah has power over all things.
99-/7194 _6- Translation: Ibn Shahrāshūb, from al-Hasan ibn ‘Alī (peace be upon them), regarding the account of his father’s death: “Indeed, his soul—meaning the soul of his father ‘Alī ibn Abī Ṭālib (peace be upon him)—was taken up on the very night that the soul of Yaḥyā ibn Zakarīyā (peace be upon him) was taken up.”
99-/7195 _7- Translation: ‘Alī ibn Ibrāhīm said, regarding His saying: “They call on Us in hope and fear”: it means “as hopeful and fearful.” [Quran 21:90] M. H. Shakir: So We responded to him, and gave him Yaḥya and made his wife fit for him; surely they used to hasten, one with another, in deeds of goodness and call upon Us in hope and in fear, and they were humble before Us.
99-/7196 _8- Translation: Muḥammad ibn al-‘Abbās said: Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn Mūsā al-Nawfalī narrated to us, with his chain, from ‘Alī ibn Dāwūd, who said: A man from the descendants of Rabī‘a ibn ‘Abd Manāf narrated to me that when ‘Alī (peace be upon him) confronted ‘Amr (in single combat), the Messenger of Allah (blessings of Allah be upon him and his family) raised his hands and then said: “O Allah, You took from me ‘Ubaydah ibn al-Ḥārith on the Day of Badr, and You took from me Ḥamzah on the Day of Uḥud, and this is ‘Alī—so do not leave me solitary, and You are the best of inheritors.”
Translation: His saying, exalted is He: “And she who guarded her chastity … to … then there is no denying of his striving.” [Quran 21:91-94] M. H. Shakir:
21:91 And she who guarded her chastity, so We breathed into her of Our inspiration and made her and her son a sign for the nations.
21:92 Surely this your community is a single community, and I am your Lord, therefore serve Me.
21:93 And they broke their religion among them: to Us shall all come back.
21:94 Therefore whoever shall do of good deeds and he is a believer, there shall be no denying of his exertion, and surely We will write it down for him.
99-/7197 _1- Translation: ‘Alī ibn Ibrāhīm said, regarding His saying: “And she who guarded her chastity”: it refers to Mary; no man looked upon her. Regarding His saying: “So We breathed into her of Our spirit,” he said [2]: a created breeze; that is, from Our command. And regarding His saying: “Therefore whoever shall do of good deeds and he is a believer, there shall be no denying of his exertion”—that is, his striving will not be rendered void.
Translation: His saying, exalted is He: “And it is forbidden to a town which We have destroyed that they shall not return.” [Quran 21:95] M. H. Shakir: And it is binding on a town which We destroy that they shall not return.
99-/7198 _2- Translation: ‘Alī ibn Ibrāhīm said: My father narrated to me, from Ibn Abī ‘Umayr, from Ibn Sinān, from Abū Baṣīr and Muḥammad ibn Muslim, from Abū ‘Abdillāh and Abū Ja‘far (peace be upon them), who said: Every town whose people Allah destroyed with punishment—they do not return in the raj‘ah (return before the Resurrection). So this verse is among the greatest proofs for the raj‘ah, for none among the people of Islam denies that all people will return to the Resurrection—those who perished and those who did not. Thus His statement “they shall not return” means in the raj‘ah; as for to the Resurrection, they will return until they enter the Fire.

And those who have purified faith purely, and others among those who were not destroyed by punishment and who have purified unbelief purely—they return.”
