As for the Day of Resurrection, it is only a sending forth to the Garden and a sending forth to the Fire.”

Quran 17:7 — M. H. Shakir: If you do good, you do good for your own souls, and if you do evil, it is for them.

99-/6264: Ibn Bābawayh said: Ahmad ibn al-Hasan al-Qattan, Muhammad ibn Bakran al-Naqqāsh, and Muhammad ibn Ibrahim ibn Ishaq al-Tālaqānī (may Allah be pleased with them) narrated to us; they said: Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Sa‘id al-Hamdānī narrated to us; he said: ‘Ali ibn al-Hasan ibn ‘Ali ibn Faddāl informed us, from his father, who said: Al-Rida (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever remembers our calamity and weeps or makes others weep [1], his eye will not weep on the day when eyes weep; and whoever sits in a gathering wherein our cause is revived, his heart will not die on the day when hearts die.” He said: And al-Rida (peace be upon him), regarding His saying, Exalted is He: If you do good, you do good for your own souls, and if you do evil, it is for them, said (peace be upon him): “If you do good, you do good for your own souls; and if you do evil—there is a Lord for it who forgives it.”

6265 _2- ‘Ali ibn Ibrahim: Regarding His saying, Exalted is He: So when the second promise comes to pass—to His saying—And We made hell a prison for the unbelievers [7-8]: it means the Qā’im (peace be upon him) and his companions, “that they may disfigure your faces,” meaning: that they may blacken your faces; “and that they may enter the mosque as they entered it the first time,” meaning: the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family) and his companions, and the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) and his companions; “and that they may destroy utterly what they have gained the ascendancy over,” that is, they will gain ascendancy over you and kill you. Then He turned toward the Family of Muhammad (peace be upon him and upon them), and said: “It may be that your Lord will have mercy on you,” meaning: He will grant you victory over your enemy. Then He addressed the Banū Umayya, saying: “And if you return, We will return,” meaning: if you return with the Sufyānī, We will return with the Qā’im from the Family of Muhammad (peace be upon them). “And We made hell a prison for the unbelievers,” that is, a confinement in which they are enclosed.

99-/6267: And from him: from ‘Ali ibn Ibrahim, from his father, from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr, from Ibrahim ibn ‘Abd al-Hamid, from Musa ibn Ukayl al-Numayrī, from al-‘alā’ ibn Sayābah, from Abu ‘Abd Allah (peace be upon him), regarding His saying, Exalted is He: Surely this Quran guides to that which is most upright.

99-/6268: Ibn Bābawayh said: Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman, the reciter, narrated to us; he said: Abu ‘Amr Muhammad ibn Ja‘far, the reciter, al-Jurjānī narrated to us; he said: Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn al-Hasan al-Mawsilī in Baghdad narrated to us; he said: Muhammad ibn ‘Asim al-Tarīfī narrated to us; he said: ‘Abbās ibn Yazīd ibn al-Hasan, the oculist, the client of Zayd ibn ‘Ali, narrated to us; he said: My father narrated to me; he said: Musa ibn Ja‘far narrated to me, from his father Ja‘far ibn Muhammad, from his father Muhammad ibn ‘Ali, from his father ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn (peace be upon them), who said: “The Imam from among us is only one who is infallible, and infallibility is not in the outward form so that he would be known by it; therefore he is only one who is designated by explicit text.” It was said to him: O son of the Messenger of Allah, what is the meaning of ‘infallible’? He said: “It is the one who holds fast to the Rope of Allah; and the Rope of Allah is the Quran—they will not separate until the Day of Resurrection. So the Imam guides to the Quran, and the Quran guides to the Imam; and that is the saying of Allah, Mighty and Majestic: Surely this Quran guides to that which is most upright.”
