Al-Kahf Ayah 45-46

[Ghāfir 40:44] M. H. Shakir: And I commit my affair to Allah; surely Allah sees the servants.

[Ghāfir 40:45] M. H. Shakir: So Allah protected him from the evil (consequences) of what they planned.

[Al-Kahf 18:39] M. H. Shakir: And wherefore did you not say when you entered your garden: As Allah has pleased, there is no power save in Allah?

[Al-Kahf 18:39-40] M. H. Shakir: If you consider me to be inferior to you in wealth and children, then it may be that my Lord will give me what is better than your garden.

[Al-Kahf 18:44] M. H. Shakir: There protection is only Allah’s, the True One; He is best in (the matter of) rewarding and best in respect of the end.

99-/6682

99-/6682 - I asked Abu Abdillah (peace be upon him) about His saying, There protection is only Allah’s, the True One. He said: “It is the wilayah of the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him).”

99-/6683

99-/6683 - I said to Abu Ja‘far (peace be upon him) about His saying, There protection is only Allah’s, the True One; He is best in rewarding and best in respect of the end. He said: “It is the wilayah of Ali (peace be upon him); it is best as a reward and best as an ultimate outcome.”

[Al-Kahf 18:45-46] M. H. Shakir: And set forth to them a parable of the life of this world: (it is) like the water which We send down from the cloud, then the herbage of the earth becomes luxuriant thereby, then it becomes dry, broken into pieces which the winds scatter; and Allah is the holder of power over all things. Wealth and children are an adornment of the life of this world; and the ever-abiding, the good works, are better with your Lord in reward and better in expectation.

99-/6684

99-/6684 - I heard him say: “O people, enjoin the good and forbid the evil, for enjoining the good and forbidding the evil does not hasten a term nor delay provision. The decree descends from heaven to earth like raindrops every day, to each soul according to what Allah has measured for it—of increase or decrease—in family, wealth, or self. If one of you is afflicted in wealth or person, and he sees surplus with his brother, let it not be a trial for him. For the Muslim man, so long as he does not expose a baseness that becomes manifest, at whose mention he is abased, and by which the ignoble among people are incited against him, is like a victorious gambler waiting for the first winning cast of his arrows, which brings him gain and wards off loss. Likewise the Muslim who is free from lying and treachery awaits one of the two excellent outcomes: either a summons from Allah—what is with Allah is better for him—or provision from Allah, in which case he has family and wealth along with his religion and his lineage. Wealth and children are the cultivation of this world, and righteous deeds are the cultivation of the Hereafter; and Allah gathers both for some people.”

99-/6685

[Al-Layl 92:5-7] M. H. Shakir: Then as for him who gives and guards (against evil), and accepts what is best, We will facilitate for him the easy end.

99-/6685 - Abu Ja‘far (peace be upon him) said: “The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and his family) passed by a man planting in his orchard; he stood over him and said: Shall I not direct you to a planting more firmly rooted, quicker to ripen, better in fruit, and more enduring? He said: Yes, direct me, O Messenger of Allah. He said: When you rise in the morning and when you reach evening, say: Subhan Allah, and al-Hamdu lillah, and la ilaha illa Allah, and Allahu akbar. For if you say it, for every glorification you will have ten trees in Paradise, of various fruits, and these are among the Everlasting Good Deeds.” He said: “The man said: I call you to witness, O Messenger of Allah, that this orchard of mine is a given charity, delivered to the poor Muslims entitled to charity. Then Allah, Mighty and Majestic, sent down the verses: Then as for him who gives and guards (against evil), and accepts what is best, We will facilitate for him the easy end.” And Ibn Babawayh narrated this in his Amali with the same import, except that in it is: “to the poor Muslims among the People of the Suffa.”

99-/6686 - He said: “If Allah, Mighty and Majestic, has said, Wealth and children are an adornment of the life of this world, then eight rak‘ahs which a servant prays at the end of the night are the adornment of the Hereafter.”

99-/6687

99-/6687 - I asked Abu Abdillah (peace be upon him) about the Everlasting Good Deeds. He said: “They are the prayer, so maintain it. Do not ever perform the noon prayer until the sun declines.”

99-/6688

[Al-‘Ankabūt 29:45] M. H. Shakir: and certainly the remembrance of Allah is the greatest (force).

99-/6688 - Abu Basir, from Abu Abdillah (peace be upon him): “The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and his family) said: Take your shields. They said: O Messenger of Allah, has an enemy approached? He said: No, but take your shields from the Fire. They said: With what do we take our shields from the Fire, O Messenger of Allah? He said: By Subhan Allah, and al-Hamdu lillah, and la ilaha illa Allah, and Allahu akbar. They will come on the Day of Resurrection with vanguards and rearguards, as deliverers and followers; and they are the Everlasting Good Deeds.” Then Abu Abdillah (peace be upon him) said: “And the remembrance of Allah is greater,” meaning: remembering Allah at what He has made lawful or unlawful, and the like of this.

99-/6689

99-/6689 - He said: “Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said: Wealth and children are an adornment of the life of this world, just as eight rak‘ahs which a servant prays at the end of the night are the adornment of the Hereafter.”

99-/6690

99-/6690 - He said: “The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and his family) was in an assembly of his companions and said: Take your shields. They said: O Messenger of Allah, has an enemy come? He said: No, take your shields from the Fire. Say: Subhan Allah, and al-Hamdu lillah, and la ilaha illa Allah, and Allahu akbar, and la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah al-‘Aliyy al-‘Azim. For on the Day of Resurrection they are vanguards, deliverers, and followers, and with Allah they are the Everlasting Good Deeds.”

99-/6691 - He said: “I entered with my uncle al-Husayn b. ‘Abd al-Rahman upon Abu Abdillah (peace be upon him). He greeted him, and he returned the greeting and drew him near. He said: Whose son is this with you? He said: The son of my brother Isma‘il. He said: May Allah have mercy on Isma‘il and overlook the evil of his deeds. How are his survivors? He said: We are all well so long as Allah leaves for us your love. He said: O Husayn, do not deem our love small, for it is among the Everlasting Good Deeds.” He said: “O son of the Messenger of Allah, I do not deem it small; rather I praise Allah for it, as they (peace be upon them all) say: ‘Whoever praises Allah, let him say: Praise be to Allah for the foremost of blessings.’ It was said: And what is the foremost of blessings? He said: Our wilayah—the Ahl al-Bayt.”

[Al-Kahf 18:47-49] M. H. Shakir: And the day on which We will remove the mountains and you will see the earth a leveled plain and We will gather them and shall not leave out from them any one. And they shall be brought before your Lord, standing in ranks: Now certainly you have come to Us as We created you at first; but you thought that We had not made an appointment for you. And the Book shall be placed, then you will see the guilty fearing from what is in it, and they will say: Ah! woe to us! what a book is this! it does not omit a small one nor a great one, but numbers them (all); and what they had done they shall find present (there); and your Lord does not deal unjustly with anyone.

[Al-Naml 27:83] M. H. Shakir (for the phrase cited): And the day on which We will gather from every nation a party from among those who rejected Our communications, then they shall be formed into groups.

99-/6692 - Abu Abdillah (peace be upon him) said: “What do the people say about this verse, And the day on which We will gather from every nation a party? I said: They say it is on the Day of Resurrection. Abu Abdillah (peace be upon him) said: It is not as they say; rather that is in the Return (al-raj‘a). Would Allah on the Day of Resurrection gather from every nation a party and leave the rest?! The verse of the Resurrection is His saying: And We will gather them and not leave out from them anyone.”

99-/6693 - He said: “When it is the Day of Resurrection, a person’s book will be handed to him and it will be said to him: Read. I said: Will he understand what is in it? He said: He will remember it; there is not a glance, nor a word, nor a step taken, nor anything he did, except that he will remember it—as if he did it at that very moment. Hence they said: Ah! woe to us! what a book is this! it does not omit a small one nor a great one, but numbers them (all).”

99-/6694

[Al-Isrā’ 17:14] M. H. Shakir (for the phrase cited): Read your book; your own self is sufficient as a reckoner against you this day.

99-/6694 - Regarding His saying, Read your book; your own self is sufficient today as a reckoner against you, he said: “The servant will remember all that he did and all that was written against him, as if he did it at that very moment. Hence they said: Ah! woe to us! what a book is this! it does not omit a small one nor a great one, but numbers them (all).”
