Yunus Ayah 88-89

99-/4952 The Prophet said: “My mosque is not for anyone to contract marriages in it except ‘Ali and his progeny. Whoever is displeased, then there” — and he gestured with his hand toward al-Shām (Syria).

99-/4952 From (Manāqib Ibn al-Maghāzili al-Shāfi‘i): with his chain up to ‘Adī b. Thābit, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) went out to the mosque and said: “Surely Allah revealed to His prophet Moses: Build for Me a pure mosque which none shall dwell in except you and Aaron and the two sons of Aaron; and surely Allah has revealed to me that I build a pure mosque which none shall dwell in except me and ‘Ali and Fātimah [1] and the two sons of ‘Ali.”

Quran 10:88-89 (M. H. Shakir)

And Musa said: Our Lord! Surely Thou hast given to Firon and his chiefs finery and wealth in this world’s life, our Lord! that they may lead (people) astray from Thy path; our Lord! destroy their wealth and harden their hearts so that they do not believe until they see the painful punishment. He said: The prayer of you both has indeed been accepted, therefore continue in the right way and do not follow the path of those who do not know.

99-/4953 ‘Ali b. Ibrāhīm said, regarding His saying, “And Musa said: Our Lord! Surely Thou hast given to Fir‘awn and his chiefs finery,” meaning kingship, “and wealth in the life of this world. Our Lord! that they may lead (people) astray from Your path,” that is, to tempt people with wealth and gifts so that they worship him and not You. “Our Lord! destroy their wealth,” meaning: ruin it. “And harden their hearts so that they do not believe until they see the painful punishment.” Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said: “The prayer of you both has indeed been accepted, therefore continue in the right way and do not follow the path of those who do not know,” meaning: do not follow the path of Pharaoh and his followers.

99-/4954 Imam al-Hasan al-‘Askari (peace be upon him) said: “The Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) said—in a long narration in which he mentions that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) had signs like those of Moses (peace be upon him): As for the blighting of the wealth of Pharaoh’s people, its like occurred for Muhammad and ‘Ali (peace be upon them both). A very old man came with his son to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family), the old man weeping and saying: O Messenger of Allah, this son of mine—I nourished him when he was small, raised him as an innocent child, aided him with much of my wealth until his support became firm, his back strong, and his wealth abundant. Meanwhile my strength was spent, my wealth went for his sake, and I became as weak as you see. He has forsaken me, not even providing me with the sustenance that would keep my soul alive.

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) said to the young man: What do you say? He replied: O Messenger of Allah, I have nothing beyond what suffices for my own sustenance and that of my dependents.

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) said to the old man: What do you say? He replied: O Messenger of Allah, he has heaps [2] of wheat, barley, dates, and raisins.”

99-/4954 “And sacks [1] of dirhams and dinars—he is wealthy.” The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) said to the son: What do you say? He replied: O Messenger of Allah, I have nothing of what he says. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) said: Fear Allah, young man, and be good to your father who has been good to you; Allah will be good to you. He said: I have nothing. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) said: Then we will give him on your behalf for this month; after that, you give him. He said to Usāmah: Give the old man one hundred dirhams for his monthly expenses for himself and his dependents; so he did.

When the beginning of the next month came, the old man and the youth returned. The youth said: I have nothing. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) said: You have abundant wealth, but you shall reach this evening poor and wretched [2], poorer than your father here; you will have nothing. The young man departed, and behold, the neighbors of his grain-heaps had gathered around them saying, Move these heaps away from us. He went to his heaps and found that the wheat, barley, dates, and raisins had all become putrid, spoiled, and perished. They compelled him to remove them from their vicinity, so he hired laborers for large sums to move them and haul them far from the city. Then he went to bring them their wages from his bags containing his dirhams and dinars; but they had been blotted out and transformed into stones. The porters demanded their wages, so he sold what he had of clothing, bedding, and house and gave it in payment; he came out of all of it with nothing. He then remained poor and wretched, unable to find his daily food; his body fell ill and wasted away. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) said: O you who are undutiful to parents, take heed and know that just as his wealth was blotted out in this world, likewise what degrees had been prepared for him in Paradise have been replaced with degrees for him in the Fire.”

Imam al-‘Askari said: “As for its counterpart for ‘Ali b. Abi Talib (peace be upon him): A man among his lovers wrote to him from al-Shām: O Commander of the Faithful, I am burdened with my dependents, afraid for them if I depart, and I am protective of the wealth I would leave behind if I depart; and I love to join you, to be among your ranks, and to be present in your service—so show me favor, O Commander of the Faithful.

‘Ali (peace be upon him) sent to him: Gather your family and dependents and place your wealth with them. Send blessings upon all of that for Muhammad and his pure family; then say: O Allah, all of these are my trusts with You, by the command of Your servant and Your wali, ‘Ali b. Abi Talib. Then rise and set out to me. The man did that. Mu‘āwiya was informed of his escape to ‘Ali b. Abi Talib (peace be upon him), so Mu‘āwiya ordered that his dependents be seized and enslaved and that his wealth be plundered. They went, but Allah Most High cast upon them the likeness of Mu‘āwiya’s own household and retinue, and the likeness of the closest retinue of Yazīd b. Mu‘āwiya, who were saying: We have taken this wealth and it belongs to us, and as for his dependents, we have enslaved them and sent them to the market. So they desisted when they saw that. Allah then made his family know that He had cast upon them the likeness of Mu‘āwiya’s family and the family of Yazīd’s intimates. They feared that their wealth might be stolen by thieves, so Allah transformed the wealth into scorpions and snakes; whenever thieves approached to take from it, they were stung and bitten—some of them died and others wasted away.”

99-/4955 Muhammad b. Ya‘qub, with his chain from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr, from Hisham b. Sālim, from Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him), said: “Between Allah’s, Mighty and Majestic, saying: ‘The prayer of you both has indeed been accepted’ and the seizing of Pharaoh, there were forty years.”

99-/4956 And from him, from ‘Ali b. Ibrāhīm, from his father, from al-Nawfalī, from al-Sakūnī, from Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him), who said: “The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) said: Moses (peace be upon him) supplicated and Aaron (peace be upon him) said ‘āmin; and the angels (peace be upon them) said ‘āmin. Then Allah, Exalted, said: ‘The prayer of you both has indeed been accepted, therefore continue in the right way; and whoever goes forth in the path of Allah, his supplication will be answered for him as yours was answered—on the Day of Resurrection.’”

99-/4957 Al-‘Ayyāshī: from Hisham b. Sālim, from Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him), who said: “Between His saying, ‘The prayer of you both has indeed been accepted,’ and the time Pharaoh was seized, there were forty years.”

99-/4958 Al-Mufīd in (al-Ikhtisās): Al-Sādiq (peace be upon him), regarding Allah, Blessed and Exalted, saying, “The prayer of you both has indeed been accepted,” said: “Between His saying, ‘The prayer of you both has indeed been accepted,’ and the seizing of Pharaoh, there were forty years.”

99-/4959 Al-Ṭabrisī: Pharaoh remained after this supplication forty years—(reported) from Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him).

Quran 10:90-92 (M. H. Shakir)

And We made the children of Israel to pass through the sea; then Firon and his hosts followed them in oppression and hostility, until when drowning overtook him, he said: I believe that there is no god but He in Whom the children of Israel believe and I am of those who submit. What! now! and indeed you disobeyed before and you were of the mischief-makers. But We will this day save you in your body that you may be a sign to those after you, and most surely most people are heedless to Our communications.

99-/4960 ‘Ali b. Ibrāhīm, in the narration of Abū al-Jārūd from Abū Ja‘far (peace be upon him), regarding His saying, “And We made the Children of Israel pass through the sea; then Pharaoh and his hosts followed them in oppression and enmity,” up to His saying, “and I am of those who submit”: “The Children of Israel said: O Moses, supplicate Allah to grant us relief from what we are in. He supplicated, and Allah revealed to him: Lead them out by night. He said: My Lord, the sea is before them. He said: Proceed, for I shall command it to obey you and to part for you. Moses then went out with the Children of Israel, and Pharaoh pursued them until he was about to catch up with them, and they looked at him as he had overshadowed them. Moses said…”
