Wave of Affliction

Karbala became a wave of affliction that poured upon the soul of Imam Husain (a.s.); May our souls be sacrificed for the seventy-two sacrifices of Imam Husain (a.s.).

He arose so that the lights of faith would not depart from the earth; The world was once again illuminated by the light of the faith of Imam Husain (a.s.).

O Imam Husain (a.s.), O leader of the free, arise! Create a movement to the fullest extent possible, O burning love, Imam Husain (a.s.).

If you do not rise, nothing of goodness will remain behind; Bring forth a Resurrection, O blazing love, Imam Husain (a.s.).

Spread your generosity across the horizons of the world; This oppressive world is nothing but a prison for Imam Husain (a.s.).

He departed from Madinah so that he might reach Karbala, And so that the page of the world might come under the command of Imam Husain (a.s.).

He made Makkah weep, and in his farewell the pillars of the sanctuary wept; Even the Ka'bah circumambulated around the greatness of Imam Husain (a.s.).

On the way he met the noble Hurr; For eternity the enemy was put to shame by the kindness of Imam Husain (a.s.).

The enemy witnessed so much mercy from the King of Wilayah, Until in Karbala the grandeur of worldly palaces was reduced to dust before Imam Husain (a.s.).

Affliction-filled Karbala became the fortress that repelled calamities; The Great Day of Ashura became the day of the storm of Imam Husain (a.s.).

Then he proclaimed the call of unity and the freedom of Islam, But the people of oppression seized the collar of Imam Husain (a.s.).

When the cypress of freedom, Abbas (a.s.), lost his hands, The polo-stick of Imam Husain (a.s.) lost yet another noble champion.

To preserve the mighty structure of Islam, The children of Imam Husain (a.s.) went forth to the battlefield of affliction.

There were Qasim (a.s.), Awn (a.s.), and Abdullah (a.s. among them); The lilies, narcissi, and sweet basil of Imam Husain (a.s.) were scattered and torn apart.

With the arrow of Harmalah, the entire world cried out in anguish; O Allah, what is this that flows upon the hands and garments of Imam Husain (a.s.)?

That Friend of Allah, Ibrahim (a.s.), with his burning love and fire— His garden is not more beautiful than the garden of Imam Husain (a.s.).

With thousands of longings he prepared himself to sacrifice his life; What a lover he was, for he was among the child-students of Imam Husain (a.s.).

For a moment he stood upon the shore of the sea of bewilderment; Then, like a mighty whale, he entered the arena of Imam Husain (a.s.).

He was submerged in the depths of an ocean of armies, arrows, and swords; Patience be upon you, O Fatimah (a.s.), grieving mother of Imam Husain (a.s.).

His head was shattered, his chest wounded, and his body became a wave of blood; Reason stood bewildered, and the heavens rained tears for Imam Husain (a.s.).

That soul of souls fell from the saddle onto the heart of the earth; Now the faithful Dhu'l-Janah stands as the guardian of Imam Husain (a.s.).

O sun, cast your fire upon the wounds of Imam Husain (a.s.), So that you may witness the boundless and endless power of Imam Husain (a.s.).

[ صفحه 471]

Be patient, O Fatimah (a.s.), and do not lower your head from the heavens, Lest you witness the stoning of Imam Husain (a.s.) at the moment of death.

Alas for that hour when Shimr entered the place of slaughter, While around the battlefield stood the disheveled sisters of Imam Husain (a.s.).

The sleep is heavy, and cries must be raised; From the spear, once more hear the recitation of the Qur'an by Imam Husain (a.s.).

Those lips and teeth spoke abundantly of the Truth; Now that thirsty ruby of Imam Husain (a.s.) must endure the blows of sticks.

Zaynab (a.s.), the mother of virtues, returns as a captive; The scorched heart of Imam Husain (a.s.) must burn forever.

From that dry throat comes a call of invitation; From those thirsty lips hear the proclamation of Imam Husain (a.s.).

Blessed are those young men who were delivered from worldly desires, Who, in the path of truth, became like the young men of Imam Husain (a.s.).

O Promised Mahdi (a.s.), avenger of the blood of Karbala, When will you place a balm upon the burning wound of Imam Husain (a.s.)?

O Allah, resurrect me with Imam Husain (a.s.) in the Hereafter; For the heart can no longer endure separation from Imam Husain (a.s.).
