1- Ameerul Momineen (a.s.) said: “It is not lawful for a Muslim to frighten another Muslim.”

2- Imam Ja‘far al-Sadiq (a.s.) said: “The most tyrannical of people is the one who kills someone other than his killer or strikes someone other than the one who struck him.”

3- Muhammad ibn ‘Ubayd ibn Mudrik said: I entered with my uncle ‘Amir ibn Mudrik upon Imam Ja‘far al-Sadiq (a.s.), and I heard him say: “Whoever assists against a believer, even with half a word, will meet Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, with these words written between his eyes: ‘Despairing of the mercy of Allah.’”

4- Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (a.s.) narrated that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.a.) said:

“Whoever honors his believing brother with a kind word, fulfills a need for him, or relieves him of a distress, the mercy of Allah will continue to spread its shade over him as long as he remains concerned with that matter.

Then he said: ‘Shall I not inform you why a believer is called a believer? It is because people feel secure regarding their lives and property with him.

Shall I not inform you who a Muslim is? A Muslim is the one from whose hand and tongue people are safe.

Shall I not inform you who a migrant (muhājir) is? He is the one who abandons sins and whatever Allah has forbidden.’

Whoever pushes a believer in order to humiliate him, slaps him, or does something to him that he dislikes, the angels curse him until he satisfies him regarding his right, repents, and seeks forgiveness.

Therefore, beware of rushing against anyone, for perhaps he is a believer while you do not know.

Adopt patience, calmness, and gentleness. Hastiness is one of the weapons of the devils, and there is nothing more beloved to Allah than patience and gentleness.”

5- In the prohibitions of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.a.): “Indeed, whoever slaps the cheek or face of a Muslim, Allah will scatter his bones on the Day of Resurrection, and he will be raised in chains until he enters Hell, unless he repents.”

6- Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (a.s.) said that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.a.) said:

“Insulting a believer is wickedness (fisq), fighting him is disbelief (kufr), and consuming his flesh (through backbiting) is an act of disobedience to Allah.”

7- Imam Ja‘far al-Sadiq (a.s.) said:

“Whoever frightens a believer through the authority of a ruler in order to cause him harm, but the harm does not reach him, will still be in the Fire. And whoever frightens a believer through the authority of a ruler in order to cause him harm and the harm does reach him, he will be with Fir‘awn and the family of Fir‘awn in the Fire.”

8- Al-Mufaddal said: Imam Ja‘far al-Sadiq (a.s.) said: “When the Day of Resurrection comes, a caller will call out: ‘Where are those who turned away from My friends (awliyāʾ)?’

Then a group of people will stand whose faces will have no flesh upon them.

It will be said: ‘These are the people who harmed the believers, set themselves against them, opposed them, and treated them harshly because of their religion.’

Then it will be ordered that they be taken to Hell.”

Imam Ja‘far al-Sadiq (a.s.) then said: “By Allah, they were people who professed the same beliefs as the believers, but they withheld their rights and disclosed their secrets.”

12- Abu Sa‘id al-Khudri said: A murdered man was found during the time of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.a.). The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) came out in anger and ascended the pulpit. He praised Allah and glorified Him, then said:

“A Muslim has been killed, and it is not known who killed him. By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, if the inhabitants of the heavens and the earth were to unite in the killing of a believer, or even approve of it, Allah would enter them all into the Fire.

By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, no one strikes another unjustly except that he will be struck tomorrow in the Fire of Hell in the same manner.

By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, no one hates us, the Ahl al-Bayt, except that Allah will cast him face-first into the Fire of Hell.”

13- The Holy Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.a.) said: “Whoever harms a believer has harmed me, and whoever harms me has harmed Allah. And whoever harms Allah is cursed in the Tawrah, the Injil, the Zabur, and the Furqan.”

And in another narration: “Upon him is the curse of Allah, the angels, and all people.”

And he (s.a.w.a.) said: “Whoever looks at a believer with a look by which he frightens him, Allah will frighten him on the Day when there is no shade except His shade. He will gather him in the form of a tiny ant, with his flesh, body, limbs, and soul, until He brings him to his final destination.”

And he (s.a.w.a.) said: “Whoever causes grief to a believer and then gives him the whole world, that will not be an expiation for it, nor will he receive any reward for doing so.”

14- Ameerul Momineen (a.s.) said: “Whoever goes to extremes in disputation becomes unjust, and whoever falls short in it is wronged. One who is constantly engaged in quarrelling cannot truly observe the fear of Allah.”

15- Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (a.s.) said: “It is enough of a fault for a person that he sees faults in other people while being blind to the faults within himself; or that he criticizes people for something that he himself possesses and is unable to change; or that he harms his companion by speaking about matters that do not concern him.”

16- The Holy Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.a.) said:

'Insulting a believer is transgression (fusuq), fighting him is disbelief (kufr), consuming his flesh (backbiting him) is a disobedience to Allah, the sanctity of his wealth is like the sanctity of Allah, and a promise made to a believer is a binding pledge.'"

And he (s.a.w.a.) said: “Whoever opposes his believing brother while he is speaking is as though he has scratched his face.” And he (s.a.w.a.) said: “Do not belittle the weak among your believing brothers, for whoever belittles a believer, Allah will not gather the two together in Paradise unless he repents.”

17- Ameerul Momineen (a.s.) said:

“Whoever hastens toward people with what they dislike, they will say about him what they do not know.”

18- The Holy Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.a.) said:

“The honor and reputation of a believer are inviolable, except in a matter where a prescribed legal punishment (ḥadd) is involved.”

19- Imam Ja‘far al-Sadiq (a.s.) said that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.a.) said: “Whoever looks at a believer with a look intended to frighten him, Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, will frighten him on the Day when there is no shade except His shade.”

22- Hisham ibn Salim said: I heard Imam Ja‘far al-Sadiq (a.s.) saying:

“Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, said: ‘Let the one who harms My believing servant prepare for war against Me. And let the one who honors My believing servant feel secure from My anger.

If there were not among My creation on the earth, from the east to the west, except one believer together with a just Imam, I would be content with their worship instead of all that I have created on My earth.

The seven heavens and the earths would remain established because of them, and I would make their faith a source of companionship for them, so that they would have no need for the companionship of anyone besides themselves.’”

23- Al-Mufaddal ibn ‘Umar said: Imam Ja‘far al-Sadiq (a.s.) said: “When the Day of Resurrection comes, a caller will call out: ‘Where are those who turned away from My friends (awliyāʾ)?’Then a group of people will stand whose faces will have no flesh upon them. It will be said: ‘These are the people who harmed the believers, set themselves against them, opposed them, and treated them harshly because of their religion.’ Then it will be commanded that they be taken to Hell.”

26- Imam Ja‘far al-Sadiq (a.s.) said:“Whoever belittles a poor believer, Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, will continue to regard him with contempt and anger until he abandons his contempt toward that believer.”

27- Al-Mu‘allā said: I heard Imam Ja‘far al-Sadiq (a.s.) say:

“Indeed, Allah, Blessed and Exalted, says: ‘Whoever humiliates a friend (walī) of Mine has prepared himself for war against Me, and I am the swiftest of all in supporting My friends.’”

29- Imam Ja‘far al-Sadiq (a.s.) said:

“Whoever treats a believer with contempt or considers him insignificant because of his poverty and lack of wealth, Allah will expose him publicly before all creation on the Day of Resurrection.”

32- Imam Ja‘far al-Sadiq (a.s.) said that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.a.) said: “Insulting a believer is like standing on the brink of destruction.”

34- Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (a.s.) said: “A man from Banu Tamim came to the Holy Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.a.) and said:

‘Advise me.’ Among the things that the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) advised him was: ‘Do not insult people, for you will thereby earn their enmity.’”

35- Imam Musa al-Kazim (a.s.) was asked about two men who insult one another. He said: “The one who begins the insult is more unjust, and both his own sin and the sin of his companion are upon him until he apologizes to the one who was wronged.”

36- Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (a.s.) said: “No person ever accuses another person of disbelief (kufr) except that one of the two will bear it. If the accusation was against a disbeliever, then it is true. But if the accused is a believer, the disbelief returns upon the accuser. Therefore, beware of attacking and accusing believers.”

37- One of the two Imams (either Imam al-Baqir or Imam al-Sadiq) (a.s.) said: “I heard him say: ‘When a curse leaves the mouth of the one who utters it, it wanders about seeking a place to settle. If it finds a deserving target, it settles there; otherwise, it returns upon the one who uttered it.’”
