Translation: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family) went out in the morning and took the hands of Ali, Fatimah, Hasan, and Husayn (peace be upon them). Then he sent to the two of them, but they refused to respond to him, so he imposed the jizyah on them. The Prophet (may Allah bless him and his family) said: “By Him Who sent me with the truth as a prophet, had they proceeded, Allah would have rained fire upon them in the valley.” Jabir said: This verse was revealed concerning them: “Then come, let us call our sons and your sons, our women and your women, and ourselves and yourselves.” Al-Sha‘bi said: “Our sons” are Hasan and Husayn, “our women” is Fatimah, and “ourselves” is Ali ibn Abi Talib (blessings of Allah be upon them). I say: Reports to this effect from both groups are mutually corroborative. We have limited ourselves to this brief mention out of fear of prolongation, and Allah is the One who grants success.

Translation (Qur’an 3:64, M. H. Shakir): Say: O followers of the Book! come to an equitable proposition between us and you that we shall not serve any but Allah and (that) we shall not associate aught with Him, and (that) some of us shall not take others for lords besides Allah; but if they turn back, then say: Bear witness that we are Muslims.

99-/1734 _1- Muhammad b. al-Hasan al-Shaybani: It is narrated from Ja‘far b. Muhammad (peace be upon them): “That the ‘word’ here is the testimony that there is no god but Allah, and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family), and that Jesus is the servant of Allah, and that he is a created being like Adam.”

Translation (Qur’an 3:65–67, M. H. Shakir): O followers of the Book! Why do you dispute about Ibrahim, when the Taurat and the Injeel were not revealed till after him? Do you not then understand? Behold! you are they who disputed about that of which you had knowledge; why then do you dispute about that of which you have no knowledge? And Allah knows while you do not know. Ibrahim was not a Jew nor a Christian but he was (an) upright (man), a Muslim, and he was not one of the polytheists.

/1735 _2- Ali b. Ibrahim said: His saying: “O followers of the Book! Why do you dispute about Ibrahim, while the Torah had not been sent down...”
