The Giving of Water by Imam Husain (a.s.) on the Day of ʿĀshūrāʾ
Giving water is a highly emphasized recommended act, even to unbelievers and animals. In some circumstances it becomes obligatory. The reward for it is granted to a person on the Day of Resurrection before the rewards of other deeds. [249]
Every form of this act was manifested by Imam Husain (a.s.).
He gave water to his enemies and quenched the thirst of their horses. [250]
He said to Dhū al-Janāḥ:
“Drink water.” [251]
He sought water in various ways for his children and family, even to the extent that he dug a well with his own blessed hands. [252]
And finally, he requested that a single drop of that water be given to his infant child. [253] .
