The Seven Appeals of Every Person at the Time of Death and Thereafter
The Seven Appeals of Every Person at the Time of Death and Thereafter
You too will have seven situations in which, no matter how much you cry for help, no one will come to your aid except Imam Husain (a.s.).
If you have responded to him, he will respond to you and deliver you from those perils.
The first of your appeals:
Will be at the time of dying, when the soul reaches the throat, your feet rub against one another, and you call out to relatives, friends, children, family members, and physicians.
None of them will be able to help you.
But if you have responded to the call of the Caller to Allah, then there is hope that the Imam (a.s.) will come to you, grant you security, and indeed answer you with his own “Labbayk.” [959]
The second of your appeals:
Will be when you emerge from the grave naked and humiliated, carrying the burden of your sins upon your shoulders.
You will look regretfully to your right and then to your left.
Wherever you look, you will find no one to whom you can turn for refuge.
But if you responded to this Stranger (a.s.), then there is hope that when you look, you will see him standing before you.
Or you may see him searching for you.
Or you may see his grandfather (s.a.w.a.) together with Jibra’il searching for you so that they may take you by the hand.
Then you will no longer need to look to the right or the left. [960]
The third of your appeals:
Will be when, due to the intensity of thirst on a day that lasts fifty thousand years, you cry out for help, while throughout that day the sun beats down upon the people and there is no one to rescue them.
If you answered the call of the Keeper of the Pond (al-Hawd) when you reflected upon his thirst,
then surely he will answer you and give you a drink after which you will never thirst again. [961]
The fourth of your appeals:
Will be when your claimants and adversaries surround you and demand their rights from you.
You will flee from them.
Indeed, you will flee even from your father, your mother, and your brother.
You will despair of everyone and remain bewildered concerning your fate.
But if you responded to this Caller to Allah, then there is hope that he will come to your aid, set your affairs aright, and satisfy those who have claims against you. [962]
The fifth of your appeals:
Will be when the Divine Command is issued:
“Separate yourselves, O criminals, and be distinguished from the God-fearing.”
At that moment, perhaps the light of the Husaini seal will prevent the darkness of the faces of the criminals from enveloping those who answered his call. [963]
The sixth of your appeals:
Will be when the command proceeds from the source of Divine Wrath to the angels:
“Cast him into the Fire!”
Or to the Fire itself:
“Seize him!”
At that moment the tongue will become incapable of crying out for help.
But if you answered the appeal of that noble one (a.s.), then there is hope that he will answer you at that time through that same inward attention, even when your tongue is unable to speak.
The seventh of your appeals:
Will be if, Allah forbid, you enter Hell.
There you will sometimes appeal to its keepers, sometimes to the angels, and sometimes to the arrogant ones who have fallen into it.
Yet none of them will benefit you.
Rather, they will become a cause of increased punishment.
Your appeal to the keepers will only be for a reduction of punishment for a single day.
Your appeal to Malik will only be for death.
And your appeal to the arrogant ones will merely be that they do something for you, even if only to remove one hour of punishment or one type of torment.
However, since Imam Husain (a.s.) has promised that he will visit those who visit him, then if, due to certain wisdoms and decrees that cannot be altered or changed, your deliverance is delayed until that time, he will surely visit you there.
The Fire will be extinguished by the arrival of his blessed presence.
All punishments will be removed from before you.
And he will take you with him to the fragrant Garden of Paradise. [964]
