The Virtue of Surah Ar-Rahman
99-/10287
Al-Shaykh, through his chain of transmission, from ʿAlī ibn Mahziyār, from Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā al-Khazzāz, from Ḥammād ibn ʿUthmān, said: I heard Abū ʿAbdillāh (peace be upon him) say: “It is recommended that you recite ar-Raḥmān after the dawn prayer (ṣalāt al-ghadāh) on Friday. Then, every time you say: (So which of the bounties of your Lord will you both deny?) [Surah ar-Rahman 55:13] you should say: ‘I do not deny any of Your bounties, O my Lord.’”
99-/10288
Ibn Bābawayh, through his chain of transmission, from Abū Baṣīr, from Abū ʿAbdillāh (peace be upon him), said: “Do not neglect the recitation of Sūrat al-Raḥmān and standing by it (i.e., adhering to its recitation and message), for it does not settle in the hearts of hypocrites. On the Day of Resurrection, it will come to its Lord in the form of a human being—in the most beautiful form and with the most pleasant fragrance—until it stands before Allah in a position closer to Him than anyone else.
Then it will be asked: ‘Who used to stand by you and regularly recite you in the worldly life?’ It will reply: ‘O Lord, so-and-so and so-and-so.’
Then their faces will brighten, and it will be said to them: Intercede on behalf of whomever you love. So they will intercede until there remains no limit to their intercession, nor anyone left for them to intercede for. Then it will be said to them: Enter Paradise and dwell therein wherever you wish.”
99-/10289
And from him, from his father (may Allah have mercy on him), who said: Saʿd ibn ʿAbdillāh narrated to me, from Yaʿqūb ibn Yazīd, from Ibn Abī ʿUmayr, from Hishām—or from some of our companions—from someone who narrated to him, from Abū ʿAbdillāh (peace be upon him), who said:
“Whoever recites Sūrat al-Raḥmān and, upon each verse that says So which of the favors of your Lord will you both deny? (فَبِأَيِّ آلاٰءِ رَبِّكُمٰا تُكَذِّبٰانِ), responds: ‘I do not deny any of Your favors, O my Lord’ (لاَ بِشَيْءٍ مِنْ آلاَئِكَ رَبِّ أُكَذِّبُ), then if he recites it at night and dies, he dies as a martyr; and if he recites it during the day and dies, he dies as a martyr.”

99-/10290
Ibn Shahr Āshūb, from Muḥammad ibn al-Mundhir, from Jābir ibn ʿAbdillāh, said:
When the Prophet (ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wa ālih) recited al-Raḥmān to the people, they remained silent and did not say anything. So he (ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wa ālih) said:
“The jinn were better in response than you. When I recited to them So which of the favors of your Lord will you both deny? (فَبِأَيِّ آلاٰءِ رَبِّكُمٰا تُكَذِّبٰانِ), they said: We do not deny any of Your favors, our Lord (لاَ بِشَيْءٍ مِنْ آلاَئِكَ رَبَّنَا نُكَذِّبُ).”
99-/10291
And from the Khawāṣṣ al-Qur’ān (Special Virtues of the Qur’an): It is narrated from the Prophet (ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wa ālih) that he said:
“Whoever recites this Sūrah [al-Raḥmān], Allah will have mercy on his weakness and he will have fulfilled the thanks for the blessings Allah has bestowed upon him. And whoever writes it and wears it [as an amulet], Allah will ease every difficult matter for him. And if it is hung on someone with eye pain, he will be cured.”
99-/10292
The Messenger of Allah (ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wa ālih) said: “Whoever writes it [Sūrah al-Raḥmān] and hangs it on himself will be secure, and every difficult matter will be made easy for him. And if it is hung on someone suffering from eye pain, he will be cured by the permission of Allah, the Exalted.”
99-/10293 Imam al-Ṣādiq (ʿalayhi al-salām) said: “Whoever writes it [Sūrah al-Raḥmān] and hangs it on someone with eye inflammation, it will be removed from him. And if it is written completely on the wall of a house, it will repel pests from it by the permission of Allah, the Exalted.”
