An-Nahl Ayah 7
Translation: Then he said: Abu al-Jarud, regarding His saying, “And the cattle He created them for you; in them there is warmth and (other) benefits,” said: al-dif’ (warmth) means the coverings from camels; and it is also said: rather, it is the means of warmth from houses and clothing.
Translation: Then ‘Ali ibn Ibrahim said about His saying “dif’ (warmth)”: it means that by which people seek warmth, from what is made of their wool and hair.
Translation: Then he said about His saying, “And for you in them is beauty when you bring them home and when you send them forth to pasture”: “when you bring them home” means when they return from pasture, and “when you send them forth” means when they go out to pasture.

Shakir: And they carry your heavy loads to regions which you could not reach but with distress of the souls; most surely your Lord is Compassionate, Merciful.

Translation: 99-/5975: Muhammad ibn Ya‘qub, from Abu ‘Ali al-Ash‘ari, from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Jabbar, from Safwan ibn Yahya, from ‘Abd Allah ibn Yahya al-Kahili, said: I heard Abu ‘Abd Allah (peace be upon him) say—he mentioned the Hajj and said: “The Messenger of Allah (blessings of Allah be upon him and his family) said: It is one of the two jihads; it is the jihad of the weak, and we are the weak. Indeed, there is nothing better than Hajj except the prayer; and in the Hajj here there is prayer, while in the prayer before you there is no Hajj. Do not neglect Hajj while you are able to perform it. Do you not see that in it your hair becomes disheveled, your skin becomes chapped [2], and you are prevented in it from looking at women? And as for us here—we are near, and we have connected waters—yet we do not reach the Hajj until it becomes hard upon us; so how then are you in distant lands? There is no king nor commoner who reaches Hajj except with hardship: a change of food or drink, or wind, or sun he cannot repel. And that is His saying, Mighty and Majestic: ‘And they carry your heavy loads to regions which you could not reach but with distress of the souls; most surely your Lord is Compassionate, Merciful.’”

Shakir (for the cited parts):
- “And (He created) the horses and the mules and the asses that you might ride upon them and as an ornament…” (16:8, part)
- “And He has cast down firm mountains in the earth lest it might be convulsed with you, and rivers and roads that you may go aright” (16:15, part)
Translation: 99-/5978: Al-‘Ayyashi, from Zurara, from one of the two (peace be upon them), said: I asked him about the urine of horses, mules, and donkeys. He disliked it. I said: Is not their meat lawful? He said: “Has not Allah made clear for you: ‘And the cattle He created them for you; in them there is warmth and (other) benefits, and of them you eat’ [1]; and He said about the horses, mules, and donkeys: ‘that you might ride upon them and as an ornament.’ So He assigned for eating the cattle that Allah mentioned in the Book, and He assigned for riding the horses, mules, and donkeys. Their meat is not unlawful, but people find it repulsive.”
Translation: 99-/5979: The Shaykh, in al-Tahdhib, with his chain from Ahmad ibn Muhammad, from Muhammad ibn Khalid, from al-Qasim ibn ‘Urwa, from Ibn Bukayr, from Zurara, from one of the two (peace be upon them), regarding the urine of beasts of burden that soils the garment: he disliked it. I said: Is not their meat lawful? He said: “Yes; but it is not of what Allah has designated for eating.”
Translation: /5980 _4- ‘Ali ibn Ibrahim said: “And (He created) the horses and the mules and the asses that you might ride upon them”—and the Mighty and Majestic did not say “that you might ride them and eat them,” as He said concerning the cattle. “And He creates what you do not know”: the wonders that Allah created on land and sea. “And upon Allah is the direction of the way, and among them are those that deviate,” meaning the path [2]. And His saying: “He it is Who sends down water from the sky; from it is drink for you, and by it grows the vegetation…”
