The Attachment of Intense Connection
The Attachment of Intense Connection
The second type is the attachment arising from intense connection, considering that whenever one limb of a person becomes ill,
or experiences pain, the entire body suffers distress and pain.
Among this type is the weeping of the Ḥūr al-ʿAyn for that noble Imam (a.s.) [535] in Paradise, which is the Abode of Joy.
This is because they were created from the light of that noble Imam (a.s.).
How then can it be that he lies upon the burning earth with a wounded body beneath the hooves of horses, while his head is raised upon a spear, his blood flowing upon the ground, his heart pierced by arrows, his liver scorched by thirst, and his soul consumed by separation from his children, brothers, and companions, yet the Ḥūr al-ʿAyn remain occupied in comfort and delight within the palaces of Paradise?
Some forms of the weeping of the Shiʿah belong to this category.
For it is narrated from Imam al-Ṣādiq (a.s.) that he said:
“Our Shiʿah are from us. They were created from the surplus of our clay (teenah), and they were kneaded with the water of our Wilāyah. They are pleased that we are their Imams, and we are pleased that they are our Shiʿah. Our calamity is their calamity. They weep over our afflictions, they grieve because of our sorrow, and they rejoice because of our joy. Likewise, we are pained by their pain and are aware of their conditions. Therefore they shall be with us and shall never be separated from us, and we shall never be separated from them.”
Then he said:
“O Allah, our Shiʿah are from us, and whoever remembers our calamity and weeps for us, Allah will not punish him.” [536]
In another narration from Ameer al-Muʾmineen (a.s.), it is reported that he said:
“Indeed Allah, the Exalted, has chosen for us Shiʿah who assist us, rejoice in our joy, grieve in our sorrow, and sacrifice their lives and wealth for our sake. They are from us, and we are from them.” [537]
This noble narration indicates that Allah has chosen the sincere Shiʿah just as He chose the martyrs before their martyrdom.
And the Shiʿah have signs by which they are recognized.
Just as the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) inferred, from the love of that child who would rub the dust of Imam Husain (a.s.)’s (a.s.) footprints upon his eyes,
that he would be among the supporters of Imam Husain (a.s.) in Karbalāʾ. [538]
The translator says: What is stated in the narration is that the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) inferred from the action of that child the existence of his love. As for his future support, the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) based that upon the information conveyed by Jibrāʾīl, as was mentioned previously. End.
Now let us weep because of this attachment, if indeed we count ourselves among the Shiʿah.
For whoever does not weep because of this attachment will not be among them.
