S 3 A 141

He said: Ever since Allah, the Exalted, created Adam, there has always been a dominion for Allah and a dominion for Iblis; so where is the dominion of Allah, the Exalted? Is it not only the One who will arise (al-Qā’im)?

[141] (Quran 3:141)

M. H. Shakir: And that Allah may purge those who believe and deprive the unbelievers of blessings.

99-/1927 - Al-‘Ayyāshī: From al-Hasan b. ‘Alī al-Washshā’, by his chain which he sends to Abū ‘Abdillāh (peace be upon him), who said: By Allah, you shall surely be purged; by Allah, you shall surely be distinguished; by Allah, you shall surely be sifted, until none of you remains except the very few. I said: And what is “al-andar”? He said: The threshing-floor; it is that a man brings the grain into his house, seals it with clay, then brings it out to find that some of it has consumed the rest; so he keeps purifying it, then stores it away again, then brings it out again, until he does that three times, until only that which nothing can harm remains.

M. H. Shakir: Do you think that you will enter the garden while Allah has not yet known those who strive hard from among you, and (He has not) known the patient.

99-/1928 - Al-‘Ayyāshī: From Dāwūd al-Raqqī, who said: I asked Abū ‘Abdillāh (peace be upon him) about the saying of Allah: Do you think that you will enter the garden while Allah has not yet known those who strive hard from among you. He said: Indeed, Allah knows best what He is going to bring into being before He brings it into being, when they were particles; and He knew who would strive from who would not strive, just as He knew that He would cause His creation to die before He caused them to die, yet He did not show them their death while they were alive.

99-/1929 - ‘Alī b. Ibrāhīm said: It is related that al-Mughīra b. al-‘Āṣ was a left-handed man. On his way to Uhud he carried three stones and said: With these I will kill Muhammad. When the fighting commenced, he looked at the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) while the sword was in his hand, so he hurled [a stone] at him…
